Welcome to The Friday Vinyl Club Podcast — where every day feels like Friday and every record tells a story.
This episode I’m delighted to welcome my beautiful niece, Emily, for a deep dive into her vinyl pick: Skinty Fia (2022) by Irish rock band Fontaines D.C.
Emily shares warm, early musical memories, citing her mum's influence (Celine Dion, Bee Gees) before her own tastes turned to heavier rock (Black Sabbath) and, eventually, the punk and DIY music scene where she found her community and confidence at live gigs. She explains how the energetic and poetic nature of Skinty Fia became a driving soundtrack to her running, and we delve into the album's dark themes and striking cover art, featuring the extinct Irish Elk.
Along the way, we touch on her love of intimate music venues like The Trades Club and The Piece Hall, her tendency to crowdsurf, the controversial brilliance of Irish hip-hop band Kneecap, and her thoughts on coloured vinyl. Stick around until the end to hear her current recommendations, including the ethereal sounds of Soria and the Japanese-based folk band Pinch of Snuff!

Welcome to The Friday Vinyl Club Podcast — where every day feels like Friday and every record tells a story.
This week, I’m delighted to welcome my great friend, Margaret, dialling in from South London for a deep dive into her vinyl pick: Tim Finn’s 1983 debut solo album, Escapade.
Margaret shares warm, early musical memories, crediting her dad’s influence and explaining how Escapade — and its hit single, “Fraction Too Much Friction” — helped her learn English as a teenager in the Netherlands. She recounts the humorous discovery of the link between Split Enz, Tim Finn, and Neil Finn of Crowded House, and how music became a bridge across family and culture.
Along the way, we touch on how platforms like TikTok are shaping her kids’ musical education, and she recommends “Undressed” by Sombr. Stick around until the end to hear which track became the ultimate family singalong on long trips!

Welcome to The Friday Vinyl Club Podcast — where every day feels like Friday and every record tells a story.
This week, I connect across the globe with Lachie Holt, an inspirational New Zealand school teacher who turned a classroom project into a real-life vinyl record! Lachie and his Hamilton East students created a stunning tribute to Split Enz’s debut album Mental Notes, pressing it to vinyl and celebrating the music that inspired them.
We dive into the story behind this ambitious project, Lachie’s own musical journey — including the role his Grandad played — and why Mental Notes became the perfect creative inspiration.
We officially submit the original Split Enz classic to the Friday Vinyl Club, and Lachie also shares his current musical favourites, including Fat Freddy’s Drop, Mac DeMarco, and Cowboy Dan.
