The Latest Presents: The California Report Magazine
Today we’re sharing an episode from The California Report Magazine.  First, reporter Lisa Morehouse visits Chef Chu’s, the family-owned Chinese restaurant that grew up with Silicon Valley. Over its 55-year history, Chef Chu’s has witnessed fast-paced change in Santa Clara County, and has been visited by luminaries in entertainment, politics and business. Both the family behind it, and the community it feeds, can’t imagine life without this beloved institution. Then, reporter Steven Cuevas gives us a sneak peek into Pasadena’s 2026 annual Tournament of Roses Parade. This year, one of the floats is celebrating first responders that helped protect Sierra Madre from the deadly Eaton Fire.  This episode originally aired on The California Report Magazine on December 19, 2025. The Latest will be back with new episodes January 5, 2026. Happy New Year!  Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

The Latest Presents: “How the Trump Administration Uses Federal Dollars to Impose His Agenda” from Political Breakdown
Today we’re sharing an episode from Political Breakdown, “How the Trump Administration Uses Federal Dollars to Impose His Agenda.”  President Donald Trump is using National Guard troop deployments to pressure cities and counties into following his conservative agenda. But attorney Jill Habig says he is also using the federal pursestrings to bend them to his will. That’s why she founded the Oakland-based Public Rights Project to take on the administration, fighting in court on behalf of those cities and counties that have seen their policies challenged, funding cut or even troops deployed to their streets. Habig joins Marisa and Scott in studio to discuss their lawsuits and strategy.  This episode originally aired on Political Breakdown on December 11, 2025. The Latest will be back with new episodes January 5, 2026. Happy New Year! Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

The Latest Presents: "The Girl in the Fishbowl at Bimbo’s 365 Club" from Bay Curious
Today we’re sharing an episode from Bay Curious, “The Girl in the Fishbowl at Bimbo’s 365 Club.”  Rita Hayworth, Robin Williams, Adele — these are just a few of the huge stars that have graced the stage of Bimbo’s 365 Club over its 94 years in San Francisco. But the act the club is most famous for is Dolphina — or the “Girl in the Fishbowl.”  Dolphina isn’t a person, though; she’s a character who’s been played by many different women since 1931. When Dolphina performs, it looks like there is a real, live woman, shrunk down to 6 inches, swimming in a fish tank at the bar. How did this quirky act come to be? This episode originally aired on Bay Curious on November 13, 2025. The Latest will be back with new episodes January 5, 2026. Happy New Year! Learn more about your ad choices.
