Dave is familiar to audiences through shows like Gold Rush, but what stood out most in this conversation had nothing to do with television. It was his perspective on work. On the trades. And on what happens when a person is given the dignity, responsibility, and opportunity to build something with their hands.
Dave talks openly about how the trades can be therapy. How work itself can be a pathway through hardship—helping people process difficult seasons, regain confidence, and even escape abusive or limiting situations. In a country that offers the freedom and opportunity to work, the trades can quite literally change the trajectory of a life. But only if we choose to see their value.
That choice matters.
Because when we recognize the importance of the work being done, we begin to understand the people doing it. And when we understand the people, we begin to see the true power of the skilled trades.
This conversation dives deeply into mining—an industry that has been part of America since the very beginning. Mining has provided not only gold and precious metals, but opportunity, stability, and long-term security. It has helped build the foundation of this country, and it continues to play a critical role in what lies ahead.
Dave is clear about one thing: he doesn’t want to be the story. He wants their stories to be told—the men and women who show up, do the work, and quietly carry the weight of industries most people never think about. His hope is that through understanding the trades, others will recognize the pride, purpose, and potential found within them.
In this first episode of Season Three of The Line Podcast, we invite you to step up to the line with us. To have a real, honest conversation. To reflect on where we’ve come from—and to look ahead at the future in front of us.
As we approach 250 years of America, we believe that future is still built by hands willing to work.
Happy New Year. Welcome to 2026.

As we look back on 2025, we’re reminded just how meaningful this year has been.
Through our podcasts, we’ve had the privilege of sitting down for some truly powerful conversations — stories of leadership, grit, failure, growth, and conviction. These weren’t just interviews; they were moments that reminded us why this work matters.
At Blackline, we exist because of the men and women who show up every day to build — the infrastructure, the systems, the companies, and ultimately the world we all live in. Your work often goes unseen, but it is never unnoticed here.
As we recap a few of the conversations from this past year, we simply want to say thank you for investing in the future and for carrying the weight that real work requires.
From all of us at Blackline,
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

Merry Christmas.
As Christmas approaches, and as we drop our podcasts every Monday here at Blackline LTD , our team wanted to give our listeners a gift, the gift of leadership.
We sat down with Wally Adamchik CMC, CSP, MBA on the battlefields of Gettysburg to talk about what leadership really is, how you attain it, how you keep it, and how you build it.It is truly one of the most powerful locations we’ve recorded in so far, and standing there, it’s impossible not to think about the men and women who sacrificed so that you and I could live the lives we live today.
The symbols of leadership on the battlefield translate clearly to life and to the jobsite. While we may not be getting shot at, and the risks may not be as obvious as they were then, they are no less real. The decisions we make as leaders are noless important. When you lead people, you affect their lives, for good or for bad, toward a brighter future or toward no future at all.
Wally shares wisdom from more than two decades of being invited into boardrooms and companies across the country. He shares his heart, and he shares the truth. For me, thisconversation was a gift, which is exactly why we’re calling this episode The Gift of Leadership. And Wally is bringing it to you this Christmas.
I hope everyone in our industries, and beyond, has a very Merry Christmas and a prosperous and amazing New Year. Remember, that’s a decision you can make with a little bit ofoptimism. Those are Wally’s words, not mine, but they’re true, and that’s what matters.

Lou brings a rare perspective—rooted in the blue-collar world and shaped by time spent doing the work himself, from carpentry to self-performing in the field. Through that experience, he saw a gap in the industry: technology that actually serves the trades and helps companies operate more effectively.
In this conversation, Lou unpacks the why behind Lumber—how it was built to support the men and women who do the work by improving how teams manage resources, finances, and certified payroll without slowing them down. Together, Joshua and Lou discuss what it looks like to operate as a team, adopt technology that can keep up with growth, and continue innovating in an industry that can’t afford to stand still.
This episode is a thoughtful look at where the trades have been—and where they’re headed.
In this episode of The Line, Joshua D. Mellott sits down with Ryan and Lisa from Better In Our Back Yard at their inaugural Better In Our Backyard Mining & Energy Expo. They talk about the importance of this industry and the people who make it work.
Ryan Sistad breaks down what can happen when you don’t let your concerns hold you back—why being intentional matters, why choosing to make an impact matters, and why doing something that genuinely makes our world a better place benefits you, me, and everyone who lives in it.
Lisa Bodine shares some phenomenal marketing insight and has an honest, real conversation as we talk about what it takes to communicate the stories of the men and women who do this work—work that is so important and so often overlooked.
We encourage you to check this one out. It drops Monday at 5 AM wherever you listen to podcasts.
What do you do?It’s a question we get a lot at Blackline. How do you do it? Why do you do it?In this episode, I sit down with you—the listener, the one asking the questions—and we talk about exactly that. We talk about what we do at Blackline, why we do it, and where we’re headed. At the core of the Lifting the View of the Skilled Trades is one simple mission: communicate the value of the men and women who do the work.We are so appreciative of the lives we get to live and the comfort we live them in, and we recognize that the people who do the work are the reason why. Their stories matter. Their stories need to be told.We believe the best way to build your brand is by telling the story of your people—the ones who raise the organization, who collaborate, who recognize that they are leaders, part of the solution and not the problem. Those are the stories we want you to know. Those are the people we need to be training, investing in, and building into for the next generation. In this episode of The Line, I talk about that. I talk about who these people are—and how you might not realize it, but you’re one of them too.Check out this episode everywhere you listen to podcasts. It drops tonight at 5 PM.#SkilledTrades #TheLinePodcast #Tradespeople #LeadershipInTheTrades #TradeCulture #StorytellingInTheTrades #BlueCollarExcellence #SkilledTradesRise #BuildYourLegacy #BlacklineBuilt #TradesLeadership #LiftTheView--------------------------

This week on The Line, we sit down with Sylvan Brandt Antique Flooring, a company committed to lifting the view of the skilled trades by reviving the work of tradesmen past and giving old craftsmanship a brand-new life.
Sylvan Brandt has built its legacy on seeking out old wood and restoring its story—transforming barn siding from century-old farms and reclaimed beams into premium flooring now found in lofts from New York City to California. Every board carries scars, marks, and character that speak to a history worth preserving.
In this conversation, we explore not only the story behind their products, but the story behind their people: transitioning a business into the next generation of leadership, staring hardship directly in the face, refusing to give up, and rediscovering purpose, meaning, and gratitude along the way.
Host Joshua D. Mellott sits down with Tyler Hollinger of Sylvan Brandt, who shares hard-earned wisdom about facing what feels impossible. At Blackline, grit is defined as “the courage to face what’s in front of you”—and Tyler embodies it. He breaks down how to develop grit, how to use it, and how it fuels perseverance and forward momentum.
This episode uncovers real truth about leadership, legacy, and the craftsmanship that shaped generations.
The episode drops Monday at 5 AM.
And it all ends with one simple question:
What are you thankful for?

In this episode of The Line, we sit down with Blue Collar Bobby, a sprinkler fitter who was “voluntold” into the trade and decided to turn that opportunity into something bigger. Not only did he learn the work, he became one of the most influential voices in the fire-protection community. Through Instagram and his platform, The Dope and Tape Show, he has committed time, energy, and resources to telling the real stories of the men and women in his trade. Bobby shares what the sprinkler industry truly is, what it takes to do the work, and how the trade is often shaped by tragedy. These moments are what push fire protection forward and drive innovation in an industry built to keep people, property, and entire operations safe. The professionals in this field show up every day to do hard work that most people never see, yet all of us depend on. There are significant opportunities in this trade, and Bobby is passionate about raising that awareness. His commitment to education, new technology, product knowledge, and elevating the skilled trades aligns closely with the vision behind The Line. We invite you to check out this powerful conversation on YouTube, Spotify, Apple Podcasts, or anywhere you listen to podcasts. Last month, we had the opportunity to take part in the inaugural BIOBY Mining and Energy Expo — surrounded by some of the sharpest minds in mining, energy, and environmental innovation. These are people who not only understand the systems that power our world, but who genuinely care about the people working within them. You can feel their passion — it’s in the way they talk about their work, their teams, and their impact.
While at the event, I sat down with Joe Lord of Turner Staffing Group for a conversation that was equal parts fun, insightful, and honest (maybe a little too honest — which, of course, makes it even better).
We talked about the importance of surrounding yourself with the right people, the culture that drives the skilled trades forward, and Joe’s perspective on supporting the men and women who make this industry move. And if you’ve ever wondered whether there’s real opportunity in mining and the trades, Joe summed it up perfectly: “Add a zero.”
This was a genuine and enjoyable conversation with someone who embodies the spirit of hard work, leadership, and authenticity that we love to highlight on The Line.

A lot of people don’t know this, but Blackline has its very own institute. Blackline Institute is a registered apprenticeship program in the state of Pennsylvania. Earlier this year we partnered with a company called Go Sprout to help us maintain records. They work directly with the state and the government in order to make sure that all the paperwork is properly recorded and the help with our training from an online standpoint. Go Sprout has an app that the students, the journeyman, and the mentors are able to use to help them be more effective in tracking their OJT hours and also helping us communicate with the government. We met with them earlier this year and they talked about what it is that they’re trying to do across the country. I appreciate their work and it was rather exciting to sit down and have afirsthand real honest conversation with them in South Beach. Check it out Monday anywhere you listen to your podcasts.

Manufacturing is the backbone of America. Supporting US manufacturing is a way to secure our future. We believe that just like in World War II the fight now or the race or whatever you wanna call it, is for AI. Josh sat down and had a real and honest conversation at the Manufacturing Association with Adam Marsh, CEO of Ledge Inc. They discussed what manufacturing is and how to make things work better. They talked about how to win the battle for AI that is in front of us now and the importance of supporting our military, our navy and to secure our future as a free society. It’s important to also give recognition to the men and women who are in manufacturing. We hope that this conversation with Adam brings some clarity to that and reminds us all of how important they are to the future of our country.-------------------------

Building America is a phrase I heard over and over again as I toured the facility at Gaylor Electric and saw their innovation center or their “high school”, as they call it, where they have people come and learn. It truly was inspiring. I sat down with one of their apprentices, one of their journeymen, and I got the opportunity to close the conversation with the CEO, Chuck Goodrich. What I was struck most by was something that I’ve always wanted to communicate well to people about the skilled trades—you can start in the trades not knowing anything about what we do or how the work is done, but if you’re willing to watch and wait, you will learn. And then if you’re willing to do the work, put in the time, the opportunities are endless. I think that these conversations really make that clear. Chuck started by working hard and now he’s the CEO of an almost billion dollar company with more than 4000 people and growing. They truly are building America. This is why we need the next generation to be built. It’s not just about buildings. It’s not just about data centers. It’s about people and this is something that Gaylor Electric understands. We made it a longer episode to celebrate our milestone of 100 episodes of The Line. We hope you enjoy.
We were in Jacksonville, Florida not too long ago and I got a chance to connect with Ryan and Charles of Petticoat-Schmitt. Charles and I sat down and had a real and honest conversation at their new offices, as they’re expanding andgrowing. A big part of their growth is what we talked about and how over their 18 years of achievement it’s been accomplished through building values in their organization that not only are lived out, but attract people of like-minded values to come and be a part of what they are doing. It’s a great company and we had a great conversation. If you want to learn from some of their experiences and learn about what they’re continuing to do to build strong culture, I encourage you to check this episode out

Josh sat down and had a real and honest conversation with K. Ryan Groff of Legacy Electrical Services Inc. With more than 20 years of experience in the skilled trades, he currently holds the title of president at Legacy and because he has also been the guy that poured the concrete and pulled the wire, those on his team have great respect for him and where he’s leading them. Ryan has an interesting take on how to communicate effectively and the importance of how we use our words. We also talked about whether or not there are stupid questions. Ryan and Josh also discussed the importance of having an awareness of what’s going on around you and how you can prepare yourself to be available for opportunities that you don’t even know are there. I encourage you to listen to this upcoming episode as Ryan unpacks this insightful information. Also, are there stupid questions? As a country, we have been celebrating Labor Day for well over 100 years. It’s a celebration of the people—the men and women who do the work. This coming Monday our episode features Miller Electric Company who has been a part of the men and women who do the work for almost 100 years. It feels like an appropriate episode to celebrate the holiday with. I sat down with Josh Nieves of Miller for this episode to have a real and honest conversation in the Jacksonville headquarters of the Miller Electric Company. We talked about his origins and journey from the heart of New York in Manhattan and Freedom Tower and all the way to Florida, where he now works with Miller. He’s investing in the people and carrying on their company culture and values. I think it’s important for us to remember to stand firm on what it is that we believe whether it’s about the values that a company represents, or whether it is your faith, or whether it is what you would call doing the right thing. It is important to believe and uphold. To believe means that you accept a statement to be true and you believe that something exists. Josh and I talk about what we believe, about Miller, and what we believe about life. I truly enjoyed this conversation. I encourage you to check it out this coming Monday on your Labor Day holiday. Happy Labor Day from me and Blackline LTD
In this continuation of our conversation with Daniel, the thing that really stood out to us is what it is to have value. He talks about where you place that value and how you give that value to others. It’s possible to know who you are and move forward with confidence without becoming arrogant and full of yourself. Sometimes this is something that can be a struggle. We believe in the blue-collar world or the trade world that we become unaware that other people don’t know what it takes to get the job done and quite frankly, we can take that and wear it as a badge of honor that we do know. We can’t forget that we need others. Daniel speaks to this from a hard work perspective. If you enjoyed the first part of this conversation, you can be certain that you wantto hear this one. It drops Monday everywhere you listen to podcasts.
