Did you know that the Grimm brothers were not the original authors of the fairy tales? In fact they collected, improved then published them in a book that has now become a treasure trove of creative materials for the whole world.
In Vietnam, many editions of Grimm's Fairy Tales have appeared long ago and are very diverse in form, but it can be said that the 2020 edition will be published with a translation by Nhat Vuong (published by Dinh Ti Books Publishing House) is a special edition not to be missed. This book is translated from the German original in 1857, the last print of the Grimm brothers' lives, and illustrated from the 1894 edition by German Post-Romantic painter Hermann Vogel. Nhat Vuong's translation is both faithful to the style of the Grimm brothers in the original version, while bringing the closeness to the poetry and the lyrics of the stories translated into the traditional Vietnamese verse form.
More than just a conversation about translation, Hoang Viet and Nhat Vuong also talked about book collection hobby, elementary school memories, Lunar New Year's ceremony and special book fairs in France.
