2025 had some great movies but these were not in that discussion. 10 films and 3 dishonorable mentions.
The final episode of 2025 is a countdown of the best movies of the year and a few honorable mentions as we prepare for 2026.
This 8 episode series serves as a prequel to the 2017 film and its 2019 sequel and is also based on the 1986 Stephen King novel. The series Bill Skarsgard reprise his role of “Pennywise” from the 2 films and joined by a new cast that include James Remar, Chris Chalk, Jovan Adepo & Taylour Paige. In this series, a military officer and his family move to the small town of Derry, Maine but quickly discover a city secret that may put their lives in danger with long ranges of terror for anyone and everyone who choose to be involved. This series premiered on October 26th, 2025 and all 8 episodes are available now on the streaming service, HBO Max.
This film serves as a reboot that is based on the 1997 original film while also being the 6th film in the “Anaconda” film series, following the 2 main stream films and the other straight to video films. The movie was directed & co written by Tom Gormican and stars Paul Rudd, Jack Black, Steve Zahn & Thandie Newton. In this film, 2 childhood friends turned filmmakers decide to make a gritty remake of the 1997 film, “Anaconda” but while shooting the film, an actual Anaconda attacks their set and quickly stalks them as they try to escape the jungle. In 2020, Columbia Pictures had announced a remake of the 1997 film but as the film was getting off the ground, it was changed to a reboot rather than a straight up remake. The film hit theaters nationwide on Christmas Day 2025.
This premium live is billed as The Final Stop on John Cena’s Farewell Tour. Held in Washington DC, the event was the culmination of a Hall of Fame career for one the industry’s biggest superstar. In the summer of 2023, John Cena announced his retirement at the conclusion of 2025. After the events of “Wrestlepalooza”, a tournament was announced to determine would be Cena’s final opponent. Superstars from Raw, SmackDown, NXT & TNA all competed for the opportunity and in the end only one remained. The return of the former World Heavyweight champion, “The Ring General” Gunther would be the one to challenge John Cena in his final match. Other matches included 2 inter promotional matches as the NXT Champion, Obi Femi took on the WWE Champion, “The American Nightmare”, Cody Rhodes. NXT’s Sol Ruca battles Raw’s Bayley. The World Tag Team Championships are on the line as Dragon Lee & “The Phenomenal One” AJ Styles defend against Je’Von Evans & the TNA X Division Champion, Leon Slater.
This documentary was produced by Curtis Jackson, a.k.a “50 Cent” and is a 4 part series that delves into the life and career of Sean Combs, “Puff Daddy” or “P. Diddy”. From the his life in New York and the rise of Bad Boy Entertainment all the way to his controversial relationship with fellow musician, Cassie and his current run in with law which included his lawsuits and allegations that have tainted his legendary career.
The final PLE of 2025 for the NXT brand came live from San Antonio, Texas and featured 5 matches, 2 of which were title matches. The PLE also featured the Iron Survivor Match which sees 5 competitors in 25 minute matches and the superstar with the most points at the end would be the winner and face the NXT Champion at the next event. The opening match was for the NXT Championship as Ricky Saint defends the title against “The Ruler” of NXT, Oba Femi in a rematch of their previous title match. To give the match a special twist, it was announced that the winner of the NXT Title match would face the WWE Champion, Cody Rhodes at Saturday Night’s Main Event next week. The Women’s Iron Survivor Match featured Jordynne Grace, Sol Ruca, Kelani Jordan, Lola Vice & the EVOLVE Women’s Champion, Kendal Grey. The NXT North American title is on the line as Ethan Page defends against the AAA Lucha sensation, Mr. Iguana. Best friends turn bitter enemies as Tatum Paxely faces Izzi Dame. The main event was the Men’s Iron Survivor Match which featured Je’Von Evans, Joe Hendry, Dion Lennox, Myles Bourne & the TNA X Division Champion, Leon Slater.
This new documentary tells the story of Selena, a Tejano singer who rose to fame in the late 80s and early 90s and her band known as “Los Dinos”. The documentary was directed by Isabel Castro while Selena’s sister and brother, Suzette & A.B. Quintanilla serve as executive producers. The documentary debuted at the Sundance Film Festival in January 2025 and won the U.S. Documentary Special Jury Award for Archival Storytelling. When the documentary screened at the South by Southwest in March of 2025, Netflix acquired the rights for it and released it on the streaming service on November 17th, 2025.
This Disney animated feature was directed by Jared Bush & Bryon Howard and is a sequel to the 2016 previous film, which was also co directed by Howard. The film sees Ginnifer Goodwin & Jason Bateman return to their respective roles as well as Idris Elba, Shakira & Jenny Slate. Joining the voice over cast are Ke Huy Quan, Andy Sandberg & Danny Trejo. In this film, Zootopia’s newest police team of detectives Judy Hops & Nick Wild are put on the new case that surrounds a potential snake siting in the city which hasn’t occurred in decades but this case will take on a dark and mysterious path into the history of their great city. This film was originally slated for a 2023 release but due to the development of the Moana sequel and live action remake, the film was delayed and didn’t hit theaters until November 26th, 2025.
The second longest running PLE from WWE comes to us live from Petco Park in San Diego, California and features 4 matches, 2 of which are the iconic “War Games”. In the women’s match, the team of Becky Lynch, Nia Jax, Lash Legend & the reigning WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions, the Kabuki Warriors, Asuka & Kairi Sane take on the team of Rhea Ripley, Iyo Ski, Charolette Flair, Alexa Bliss & AJ Lee. The Intercontinental Championship is on the line as John Cena defends against the AAA Mega Champion, “Dirty” Dominick Mysterio. Stephanie Vaquer defends the Women’s World Championship against WWE Hall of Famer, Nikki Bella. The main event was a star studded War Games match as Bron Breakker, Bronson Reed, Logan Paul, Drew McIntyre & Brock Lesnar took on the team of Jimmy & Jey Uso, Roman Regins, the WWE Champion, Cody Rhodes & the World Heavyweight Champion, CM Punk.
This is the 3rd film the series following the previous 2 films from 2013 & 2016 and this film was directed by Ruben Fleischer and sees Jesse Eisenberg, Woody Harrelson, Dave Franco, Morgan Freeman & Mark Ruffalo all return to their respective roles. Lizzy Caplan also returns from the previous film as well as Isla Fisher who was in the 2013 film but not the 2016 sequel. Joining the cast is Justice Smith, Dominic Sessa, Ariana Greenblatt & Rosemund Pike. In this film, when a new group of young magicians begin impersonating The Four Horseman, they both positive and negative attention and then must join force with the original group for heist from a jewel company that may be a front for much more nefarious business plan. After the moderate success of the 2016, plans for sequel began in 2017 but didn’t get off the ground until 2022. The film hit theaters worldwide on November 14th, 2025.
Amazon dropped this documentary on October 10th, 2025, which was directed by Colin Hanks & produced by Ryan Reynolds.
Netflix’s newest documentary centers on one of the biggest stars in the world of comedy, Eddie Murphy. His career began as a teenage stand up comedian in New York and quickly rose to super stardom by the age of 19, when he joined the cast of “Saturday Night Live” in 1980. His collection of films span 4 decades and has of best films in the genre that include, “Trading Places”, the “Beverly Hills Cop” franchise, “Coming to America”, “Harlem Nights”, the “Shrek” franchise & “Life”. His performance in 2006’s “Dreamgirls” earned him a Golden Globe Award and an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor. He has 2 stand up specials that are among most successful films based a stand up comedy series, 1983’s “Delirious” and 1987’s “Raw”.
This Netflix original film was written, produced and directed by Guillermo Del Toro, is based Mary Shelley’s original 1818 novel of the same name & one of several major motion pictures based on the same story. The film stars Oscar Isaacs as the titular character and Jacob Elordi as “The Monster”. Mia Goth & Christoph Waltz also star in the film. In this film, a young scientist obsessed with death, conducts a series of experiments to reanimate a dead body that has been stitched together from different parts but things take a dark turn as “the creature” comes to life and confronts its creator. The film debuted at the Venice International Film Festival on August 25, 2025, had a limited theatrical release on October 17th before landing on Netflix on November 7th.

The WWE Women’s Championship is up for grabs as Tiffany Stratton takes on “The Storm” Jade Cardgill. In a triple threat match, the Intercontinental Championship is on the line as “Dirty” Dominick Mysterio takes on Penta & Rusev. In our main event, the World Heavyweight Championship will be contested in a single match. After Seth “Freakin” Rollins was forced to surrender the title due to injury, the number contender, CM Punk was met by another challenger, “Main Event” Jey Uso. Punk will battle Jey to determine a new World Heavyweight Champion.
This film is based on the 1979 Stephen King novel of the same name, is directed by Francis Lawrence and stars Cooper Huffman, David Jonsson, Judy Greer & Mark Hamill. In this film, in a reimagined world set in the 1970s, a group of young men agree to participate in an annual contest in a walking marathon, however, should they fail to keep up or slow down, they will be killed until one remains and will granted a large money prize as well as one “granted wish”. This film was run through the grueling process of starting and stopping among studios and filmmakers, dating all the way back in 1988. It wasn’t until late 2023 that the film got off the ground and began production. The film hit theaters on September 12, 2025.
This psychological thriller is a remake of the 1992 original film and was directed by Michelle Garza Cervera and stars Mary Elizabeth Winstead & Maika Monroe in the leading roles. In this film, after a lawyer gives birth to her second child, she hires a young woman as nanny who also happens to her client in a case. As time passes, the lawyer slowly begins to notice the behavior and mannerisms of the nanny that become more mischievous and sometimes hostile. This film was produced by 20th Century Studios and was released exclusively on Hulu, October 22, 2025.
The latest premium live event from WWE was held in Perth, Australia and had 5 match card. The Crown Jewel event is known as a “Clash of the Champions” within the company. In the men’s match, the WWE Champion, “The American Nightmare” Cody Rhodes taking on the World Heavyweight Champion, Seth “Freakin” Rollins. On the women’s side, the WWE Women’s Champion, Tiffany Stratton took on the Women’s World Champion, Stephanie Vaquer. In an Australian Street Fight, “The Tribal Chief” Roman Reigns battles the Australian native, “Big” Bronson Reed. After the recent split of the remaining members of Damage Control, Iyo Sky teams up with former rival, Rhea Ripley to take on her former team, The Kabuki Warriors, Asuka & Kairi Sane. John Cena’s Farewell Tour is nearing the end and to keep his legacy alive, he does battle with a familiar face in “The Phenomenal One” AJ Styles. Crown Jewel marks the end of the WWE’s run overseas and will the final PLE until 2026.
This Netflix documentary series is the 3rd chapter in Netflix anthology series that follows the serial killer known as Ed Gein. Charlie Hannum stars the title character and is joined by Suzanna Son, Laurie Metcalf & Tom Hollander as well as few other actors in recurring roles. The story follows Gein’s life on a farm in Wisconsin to his career as a serial killer that spanned several months in 1957 before his initial arrest. His crimes quickly became national news with headlines all over the world and would later be the inspiration for several successful horror films such as 1960’s “Psycho”, 1974’s “The Texas Chainsaw Massacre” & 1991’s “The Silence of the Lambs”. All of which were inspired by Gein’s story. The series debuted on Netflix on October 3rd, 2025.
