Tales for All Hallow's Eve

On Halloween night, as the clock strikes twelve, The Midnight Archives open for the first time.

We were once Is This Place Haunted?, but now, we’ve opened the door a little wider.

Inside are five haunting tales: of curses, warnings, and the echoes of the past that still call through the dark.

Happy Halloween!

The Loch Ness Monster
In this month's episode, we dive deep into the dark, murky waters of Scotland’s most famous legend—the Loch Ness Monster. Tales of a mysterious, long-necked creature have captured imaginations the world over for nearly a century. Is it real, or nothing more than an urban legend, passed down for centuries? We explore the history of Nessie sightings, from the infamous 1934 "Surgeon’s Photograph" to modern-day sonar scans, and weigh them against scientific theories. Is it just a hoax? Join us as we separate fact from folklore.

The Sauchie Poltergeist

The Sauchie Poltergeist is a chilling tale from 1960 in the village of Sauchie, Scotland. The mysterious events centered around 11-year-old Virginia Campbell, who had recently moved from Ireland. Witnesses reported unexplained knocking sounds, furniture moving on its own and other strange disturbances in the MacDonald family home. Clergy, journalists and paranormal investigators examined the case, but no definitive explanation emerged.

Was this a genuine haunting or was this the psychic powers manifesting of a young girl?

This theory kind of crosses over with alternate timelines and parallel universes. Listen to the episode and decide what you think for yourself...

Jack the Ripper

Trigger warning: this episode will discuss murder and torture.

Happy New Year! Our first episode of 2024 delves into the infamous Jack the Ripper case. He terrorised the Whitechapel community in 1888 by committing some of the most gruesome murders the world had ever seen. The graphic and violent nature of the murders has made his name infamous to this day, almost 150 years on. The case remains unsolved. Perhaps what is lesser known is that his victims reportedly have not left since - there are regular sightings of his victims in Whitechapel. Spectres of who many believe to be Jack himself have been seen in pubs and around the Thames. Listen to hear all about the history and hauntings!

Crumlin Road Gaol

Often called "Europe's Alcatraz", Crumlin Road Gaol (also known as HM Prison Belfast) sits upon ten acres of ground in North Belfast. It was opened in 1846, making it the only Victorian era prison to currently exist in Northern Ireland. The first 106 inmates from the old prison in Carrickfergus walked into Crumlin's gates in 1846, shackled in chains. Men, women and children were imprisoned here - including the Ulster Suffragettes. The jail was functional until 1996, when the Governor of Belfast closed the heavy gates for the final time. It lay derelict until renovations in the 2010s, opening as a tourist attraction in 2012. Perhaps unsurprisingly, the gaol is said to be incredibly haunted. There are sights of old prison wardens and children, as well as disembodied voices. Objects are also said to move by themselves. The gaol holds the original hanging gallows and noose.

We did our very first paranormal investigation there - and captured some creepy shit. Listen if you dare!

Halloween Special: All Hallow's Eve

All Hallow's Eve is the traditional name for what we would all call Halloween. It is believed on October 31st, the veil between the world of the living and the dead is at its thinnest. We probably associate Halloween now with trick-or-treating, jack-o-lanterns or pumpkins, toffee apples and dressing up in costumes. Historically, this day has been a celebration of the dead, praying for those who have passed on. People in Ireland and Scotland would even set a place at the table for their dead relative to join the dinner. Join us this week to learn all things Halloween.

Halloween Special: Serial Killer Hauntings

Trigger warning: this episode contains description of sexual assault, murder, suicide and torture. Listener discretion is advised.

In the first of our bonus Halloween episodes, we look into the crimes and afterlives of two of the most prolific serial killers in history. Ted Bundy and John Wayne Gacy both have names synonymous with evil. The crimes they committed are an abomination to society, so why are they still hanging around? Ted Bundy's apparition has been sighted countless times in numerous locations, and he's said to have made contact with students at his old university via... the ouija board. Gacy's self-portrait of himself as a clown reportedly has a curse attached to it and the darkness around his old home is palpable. Tune in, but leave the light on...

Astral Projection

Astral projection is a form of out of body experiences, a phenomena when one's spiritual body separates from the physical body. Many people describe travelling to different countries, planets, periods of time as well as alternate timelines. There are also warnings of grave danger if you do it without being careful.

So what is astral projection? What do people experience when we do it? Is it simply an elaborate dream, or a new way to travel the world? We also have a personal story of our dear friend Andy over at Spooky Island Radio.
