Do Men Experience IBS Differently? My BFF Matt Shares His Journey With Irritable Bowel Syndrome

5 years ago from the day this podcast was recorded, Matt had his first colonoscopy. How iconic is that timing? 🤣

Welcome back to the MyIBSLife Podcast! Sorry it's been forever - if you've been here awhile, you're probably used to it by now.

On this episode, Christine (creator of MyIBSLife on instagram), sits down with her good friend, Matt, to discuss his journey and struggles with Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) and mental health.

Matt is currently 31-years-old, but started experiencing symptoms in his early 20's, right around the time he was also diagnosed with anxiety and depression. The initial symptoms included frequent diarrhea and a general "upset stomach" feeling, which became worse and worse as the years went on.

He then saw a gastroenterologist who performed a stool sample test and a colonoscopy, which then led to Matt's diagnosis of IBS-D (Irritable Bowel Syndrome, Diarrhea predominant).

After years of "just dealing" with his IBS, this year, Matt saw his symptoms begin to worse once again and affect his quality of life.

"I only go to the gastro, or any doctor, when I'm in dire need. I was like 'It's starting to get really bad now and I'm starting to feeling miserable.'"

Matt then goes into detail about his new experiences with taking the prescription medication, VIBERZI, to control and manage his IBS-D flares.

In this episode, Matt also talks about:

  • Working and maintaining a career with Irritable Bowel Syndrome
  • Pursuing dating and relationships with IBS
  • Surviving social situations with IBS
  • & More! Make sure to listen all the way through - Matt has a ton of great advice & stories to help you and remind you that you are not alone!

Thank you again to my bestie, Matt for being on this episode of the MyIBSLife Podcast, and thank you to YOU for being here & listening!
