ICYMI: you can watch this episode on the MyIBSLife YouTube Channel!

how do our stomachs just KNOW when we're in a super quiet, serious, public space... and take that opportunity to make the LOUDEST. WEIRDEST. MOST HUMILIATING. NOISES. EVER ??

- quiet classes & lectures

- work offices

- in front of my crush

- sorority initiation

my instagram friends also shared the weirdest/worst places their stomachs have screamed bl00dy murd3r, and i am just so sorry, yet so happy, we can all commiserate on this universal experience together.

ahh, yes, Interstitial Cystitis ... another f**cking annoying chronic condition to add to the list of things i'd like to complain about on this podcast :-)

for those of you who may not know, Interstitial Cystitis (IC) is "painful bladder syndrome" .... or as i call it, IBS of the bladder.

in this episode, i'm just complaining about my current IC flare, explaining what IC is, the symptoms that can come with it, how i got diagnosed, and more. if you deal with IC too, i'm so sorry. we got TOO MUCH GOING ON DOWN THERE that it should be illegal.

thank you to everyone on instagram who submitted some "never have i ever" statements! they made me laugh, which was exactly what i needed today. i think this goes without saying -- but please don't take anything i say too literally. i'm just joshin' with y'all. if you've $h*t yourself ever, anywhere, IT HAPPENS TO THE BEST OF THE IBS BESTIES.

My Complicated Relationship With Food

you can watch this episode on the MyIBSLife YouTube Channel!

content warning: this episode discusses food anxiety, disordered eating, and weight loss.

i know, this topic is a heavy one... it feels uncomfortable just typing out a summary for this episode. but let's talk about it.

spoiler alert: my relationship with food... is not great. but we're working on it.

my food anxiety began when i was diagnosed with Irritable Bowel Syndrome 16+ years ago. my lifelong struggle with emetophobia certainly hasn't helped, either.

but it's not just being afraid of food itself... but also the fear of my own body. and the feeling having no control of how my body will react when i eat food.

but what i've noticed through the years is that:

1. i CAN get control of my IBS symptoms

2. my food anxiety comes in waves. i'll go through periods of time where it's incredibly overwhelming (especially during/after a really bad IBS flare), and then go through periods of time where it calms down. i build confidence again. i get control again. i can enjoy meals and my favorite snacks once again. i feel free again.

if you can relate, i'm so sorry. but i promise, you are not alone. i'm right there with you. and let me reiterate: this. $h*t. comes. in. waves. there's always a light at the end of the tunnel. you are strong enough to get through this. i'm sending you all my love.

thank you so much for listening. if you have a moment, i would appreciate it so much if you would subscribe, rate & review this podcast. you can also follow & subscribe to me on Instagram , TikTok & YouTube for more (lighthearted) IBS and emetophobia content.

hi, i'm Christine, and welcome (back) to the MyIBSLife podcast! i get asked quite frequently over on Instagram and TikTok what I do for work while living with IBS, so I wanted to make a few-part series about all the jobs I've had during my 16+ years of dealing with Irritable Bowel Syndrome!

EXCITING NEWS (kinda lmao) - you can WATCH this episode on YouTube!

here's part one: working retail with IBS. I honestly feel that this job was the hardest, especially when it came to dealing with the general public, being understaffed, working crazy schedules and dealing with the holiday madness. having an IBS flare in the middle of a department store is just NEVER the vibe -- especially when you don't have the choice to go home during a shift lmao.

i'm always so curious - what do you guys do for work? what are some of the challenges that you've faced in the workplace while living with IBS? let me know over on Instagram, TikTok or leave a review telling your stories!

Surviving Freshman Year Of College With IBS

I promise you... if I could do it, you can do it too.

hi, I'm Christine, and welcome (back) to the MyIBSLife podcast! I, once again, I had an intense flashback to a very (in)significant moment in time that inspired this whole episode about how I survived my freshman year of college.

going to college is an EXTREME lifestyle adjustment for everyone - but especially for those with IBS or other chronic illnesses/conditions. I hope this episode helps relieve some anxiety for anyone out there who has IBS and is either thinking of going to college, or is currently in college. control what you can, take breaks and listen to your body. no matter what your college experience looks like, you always have time to start over and build your future. you are never a failure.

Competition In The Chronic Illness Community

we spend so much time trying to convince others in our lives how sick we truly are, or how much pain we're in. instead of competing to see who has it worse, let's use this little corner of the internet to support, validate, and uplift each other!

hi, I'm Christine, and welcome (back) to the MyIBSLife podcast! one thing I am so thankful for is this online IBS / chronic illness community we've built together. I can confidently say that 99% of the time, this is the best, most caring, most empathetic group of people... until that one occasional "I WISH I *only* had IBS" comment comes in and RUINS IT FOR EVERYONE

this episode is just a reminder to be kind to your fellow gut-impaired friends, and to be thoughtful of what you're saying to others (online or IRL). we may have different illnesses/conditions/symptoms/triggers/etc., but we're all fighting similar battles.

thank you to every single one of you who makes this community so bright and loving and accepting and supportive. you all make a difference in someone's life every single day just by being here, especially mine!

Crop Dusting The School Bus

happens to the best of us... amirite, ladies?

hi, I'm Christine, and welcome (back) to the MyIBSLife podcast! in the midst of a mental breakdown earlier today, i had some flashbacks to the beginning days of my IBS journey. considering it's been over 16 years since I was first diagnosed with Irritable Bowel Syndrome, I sometimes forget how truly dark and lonely those first few years of navigating my new illness (and new life) were.

although some of these memories should've probably stayed a secret, I wanted to talk about them in case there is anyone else out there currently struggling to cope with their IBS. the beginning is always the hardest. even if you don't believe me right now, I promise it gets better.

Do Men Experience IBS Differently? My BFF Matt Shares His Journey With Irritable Bowel Syndrome

5 years ago from the day this podcast was recorded, Matt had his first colonoscopy. How iconic is that timing? 🤣

Welcome back to the MyIBSLife Podcast! Sorry it's been forever - if you've been here awhile, you're probably used to it by now.

On this episode, Christine (creator of MyIBSLife on instagram), sits down with her good friend, Matt, to discuss his journey and struggles with Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) and mental health.

Matt is currently 31-years-old, but started experiencing symptoms in his early 20's, right around the time he was also diagnosed with anxiety and depression. The initial symptoms included frequent diarrhea and a general "upset stomach" feeling, which became worse and worse as the years went on.

He then saw a gastroenterologist who performed a stool sample test and a colonoscopy, which then led to Matt's diagnosis of IBS-D (Irritable Bowel Syndrome, Diarrhea predominant).

After years of "just dealing" with his IBS, this year, Matt saw his symptoms begin to worse once again and affect his quality of life.

"I only go to the gastro, or any doctor, when I'm in dire need. I was like 'It's starting to get really bad now and I'm starting to feeling miserable.'"

Matt then goes into detail about his new experiences with taking the prescription medication, VIBERZI, to control and manage his IBS-D flares.

In this episode, Matt also talks about:

  • Working and maintaining a career with Irritable Bowel Syndrome
  • Pursuing dating and relationships with IBS
  • Surviving social situations with IBS
  • & More! Make sure to listen all the way through - Matt has a ton of great advice & stories to help you and remind you that you are not alone!

Thank you again to my bestie, Matt for being on this episode of the MyIBSLife Podcast, and thank you to YOU for being here & listening!
