The Neurogender Podcast talks about recent neurodivergent research in a gendered context. Why are more women being assessed for neurodivergence in mid and later life? What is neurodivergence, neurogender, and neurodiversity, anyway? Why does any of this matter? I will answer these questions in the series. Each season will examine research from the last 3-5 years in different forms of neurodivergence, and each episode will look at one particular characteristic. We will look at how the research impacts different genders.

8. The Neurogender Podcast: Autism & Relationships

In academic research, social relationships between autistic people and neurotypical people is often framed as ‘good’ or ‘bad’, positive or negative, without taking account for autistic measures of a successful relationship. Successful social relationships often happen between two or more autistic people when they feel safe and accepted, and may not have to mask. I will talk about recent research on autism and friendships, family dynamics, and anthropomorphism.
