Episode Text:
Cardiolipin (CL), also known as diphosphatidyglycerol, is localized and synthesized exclusively in the mitochondria. This glycerophospholipid was first characterized by Mary Pangborn and McFarlane in 1941. Presently, CL is considered a potential therapeutic target for several neurodegenerative diseases (NDDs). Recent developments in the field of lipidomics indicate that the ratio of monolysocardiolipin-to-native CL is a valuable biomarker for diagnosing NDDs such as Barth Syndrome (BTHS). In this review, the role of lipidomics in understanding the function of CL in NDDs is reviewed.

Organic Chemistry as A Fairy Tale: Once upon a time there as a professor who have twelve princes named: Namio, Structurio and his brother Reactivio, Acidio and his brother Basicio, Nucleophilicio and his brother Electrophilicio, Equilibrio, Stereochemico, Sterico and his brother Electronico and Regioselectivio. Each prince was more complementary than their brother. They all stayed together in the mind-town called Organicochemico. One evening when during the mystical week known as “finale” they all came together to compete at the yearly games. Namio was notoriously a political person who voted for the PLP-s, also known as ( Prinicpal-Locant-Parent Chain- Suffix). Structurio competed in the dance competition showing his routines in their condensed, and bond-line forms. Reactivio participated in the track competition particularly in the race called the Kinetic 500. Acidio and Basicio competed in the meditation competition led by Dr. Bronsted who focuses on obtaining and letting go of your inner proton. Nucleophilicio and electrophilicio helped organized the Kinetic 500, while they both competed in the gymnastic competition with Nucleophilicio stretching the farthest and electophilicio serving as the catcher for the cheerleaders. Equlibrio participated in the annual Le-Chatellier’s fencing competition. Furthermore, stereochemico participated in the art competition focusing on 3D drawings and the arrangement of the objects in space. Sterico and electronico being fierce rivals, competed in the rowing competition with sterico winning at points and electronico winning at points. The boat race is still ongoing. Regioselectivio competed in the map reading competition since he was good at predicting the directions of battles and direction for hikes and journeys. These princes still compete today.. and the story continues.
