Wicked: For Good
Is this, the second Act (don't call it a sequel!) to Wicked (the smash hit musical of last year), a magical tour de force, or a misanthropical tour de farce? Does the film version of everything post intermission overcome some of the inherent issues of the stage show and elevate the material to defy gravity? Or is it all a sham waiting to be doused in water and melt away to nothing? We are here to check out if this Ozian festivating is 100% ozmapolitan or confusifying and disgustificating!

The Running Man and The Long Walk
In the late 70's Stephen King was still a ways away from being a household name; he had released Carrie, Salem's Lot and The Shining and his star was certainly on the rise... but he wanted more. That "more" came in the form of a pen-name that would allow him to try different ways of telling stories: Richard Bachman. Under this name he wrote 4 novels from 1977 to 1982 before his ruse was discovered.

This podcast we are reviewing the adaptations of two of those books; The Long Walk from 1979 and The Running Man from 1982. This is the second attempt at an adaptation of The Running Man and this one contains almost 98% less Arnold Schwarzenegger.  Are they trudging to the finish line or do they barrel along at a breakneck pace?

Join in with Dion, Jill and Quinny for their rambling and occasionally sprinting thoughts on these two thematically similar but structurally opposite films.
Synopsis - The Running Man 
In the near future, "The Running Man" is the top-rated show on television, a deadly competition where contestants must survive 30 days while being hunted by professional assassins. Frankenstein (2025)
The long and storied history of Frankestein and his monstrous creation has been a staple of the cinema landscape since the very beginnings of film. We have seen so many adaptations and interpretations of the Frankenstein monster that some have burned into our psyche in an almost archetypal fashion. From Mary Shelley's initial creation to today we have seen the monster take a front seat, while the original ideas and meanings have been more and more confused. So how does a creator explore the classic horror story and find something new? with great difficulty if "I Frankenstein" is anything to go by. Well if anyone can do it and do it well, it's our man Guillermo Del Toro!

In this review, Dion is the mad scientist, Jill the voice of reason and caring in a cold heartless world...and Quinny is of course the simple creation: The monster whose origins are born from scientific folly and not from human kindness.

Predator: Badlands
The Predator franchise has been long and incredibly varied in it's scope and quality. From the very first film which was, lets be fair, a macho man monster movie... to the ongoing saga that has been explored in Comics, Games, Movies and animation. The character of the Predator has crossed over with a massive range of other IP's from Batman and Judge Dredd to Archie (?!) and even the ENTIRE MARVEL UNIVERSE... But thus far we've never seen them as anything other than an antagonist.

Well all that is about to change in Predator Badlands! Young Yautja hunter Dek is ready to take on the most deadly planet in the galaxy to prove himself to his family. He is going to need to learn a lot about working together with others to survive.

Dion, Jill and Quinny are the Predators in this review, and they are hunting down a great film!

Nacho Libre
Is this your Lucha Libre inspired high flying, wrestling based adventure comedy film? NO! ... it's NACHO comedy film! not... your... nacho. get it? Ugh.

From the mind of Director Jared Hess (Napoleon Dynamite, Minecraft) comes the story of Ignacio; friar, cook, and secret lucha wrestler. Jack Black stars in this 2006 comedy. And with the unnecessary fart noise of Nacho Libre ringing in our ears, we bid a fond farewell to wrestle-tober; a month where we all learned something and that wrestling films are the friends we body slammed along the way. So now it's wrapped up just in time for the Spooky season of halloween to sneak on in, for a bit of fun to round out the month.

The whole wrestling team is in this episode, and even though they are all wearing lucha masks... you can tell who is who.
Synopsis
Ignacio (Jack Black), or Nacho to his friends, works as a cook in the Mexican monastery where he grew up. The monastery is home to a host of orphans whom Nacho cares for deeply, but there is not much money to feed them properly. Nacho decides to raise money for the children by moonlighting as a Lucha Libre wrestler with his partner Esqueleto (Héctor Jiménez), but since the church forbids Lucha, Nacho must disguise his identity.

The Iron Claw

The Wrestler
Despite his failing health and rapidly diminishing fame, Randy "The Ram" Robinson (Mickey Rourke) continues to eke out a career as a professional wrestler... partially due to financial hardship and partially in an attempt to hold on to the success of his heyday. Is his world improved by the quest to find love and redemption in the arms of Marisa Tomei's "aging" exotic dancer? Or will he find an emotional sanctuary with his estranged daughter (Evan Rachel Wood)?
It's from the same director of Requiem for a Dream... what do you think?

It's laughs all round for this one folks, as we body slam into our first film of Wrestle-tober! Darren Aronofsky's much lauded 2008 film is our cheery little topic for this week, and the whole team are in the ring for this one!

Jill and Peta are the wrestling beauties flying high off the top rope, Dion is hiding behind the Spanish announcers table and Quinny was the ref they knocked out about 10 seconds into the match.

Megaforce
From the deepest darkest corners of the 1980s comes a film that most will never have heard of... And for pretty good reason: it's ridiculously cheesy, utterly misogynistic, completely ridiculous and it may well be the reason camping chain Kathmandu is going out of business: because its just THAT camp! But it's Dion's cult cinema choice, and its hard to look past its godawful costumes and insane vehicle designs... But if you do you'll find something quite fascinating: you'll find te core text that informed such properties as G.I.Joe, MASK, The A-Team and in later years Team America: World Police.

The movie is called Megaforce and it is the absolute definition of cult cinema. some will love it, many will hate it. but it's sure got something to say.

All of the team are here, though some more begrudgingly than others and Peta's "But Why's?" are so numerous and loud, that we though we'd actually broken her.

Eddington
Divisive, challenging, disquieting; all adjectives that have been placed upon Ari Aster's previous works Hereditary, Midsommar and Beau is Afraid. It's good then that his latest work Eddington continues to encompass these and many more adjectives in its two and half hour running time. Like every film at the moment is stars Pedro Pascal, but unlike every film it also stars Joaquin Phoenix and Emma Stone. A tale of misinformation and miscommunication set in the height of the pre-vaccinated pandemic; It's not going to be for everyone. And in fact it was even for all of us. But it's got a LOT to be unpacked and discussed.

Red Sonja
It's been an age since we've seen Red Sonja... a Hyborian Age in fact! Since the characters creation in 1934, her adaption to comics in 1973 and the first film's release in 1985, she has caught the minds of innumerable great creators, artists and storytellers. She has also shown up in this film.

After 2008's aborted Robert Rodriguez helmed version which was to star Rose McGowan, it's been a long time between drinks for the OG beautiful barbarian. it's obviously harder to get actors interested in scale mail bikinis in the modern market... it seems you just have to wait long enough and drop the budget enough that eventually someone just says "Screw it, why not?" and thats how we got here...

All four of the review team are in for this review, "Occasionally Red Jill", "Pleasantly Earth-toned Peta", and "Concerningly Puce Dion". Though they are all mightily annoyed with "No Confirmed Colour Quinny" for his terrible choice... He's in movie-choosing-jail for a while yet to come...

Alien: Earth & Peacemaker S2
We're cracking the whip again for another episode of TPToA's TV round-up! This time we're rounding up superheroes (or superhero-adjacent guys) and Xenomorphs! It's Alien: Earth and the second Season of Peacemaker! In the new DCU no-one can hear you scream, but they can judge your dancing. Alien: Earth is the new ongoing series from Noah Hawley (Legion, Fargo) and it follows a crashed spaceship spilling forth it's deadly cargo of alien threats. Peacemaker season 2 is technically a part of James Gunn's new DC Universe, and it is taking no prisoners in distancing itself from the previous iteration of reality.  Are either of them any good? Kids are creepy right? We can all agree on that? Well, you know whats even creepier? When there are meant to be kids and they aren't there. Or even worse... there's just one. Weapons is the new horror from Zach Cregger starring Julia Garner, Josh Brolin and Alden Ehrenreich, whose first break out hit Barbarian scared the hell out of us... and guess what? It's got a whole bunch of creepy not-there kids! But is it actually good? Or is this just a bunch of kids "naruto running" towards oblivion?

K-Pop Demon Hunters
K-Pop Demon Hunters sounds like a joke title, but this action packed adventure/romance/musical/ martial arts action film... is really something different! The surprise animated hit of the year which has been not only smashing streaming video records (thats Netflix for ya), but also demolishing the music charts (Golden hitting no. 1 on Spotify!) is something nobody saw coming, but now that it's here we may never be the same! Its a heady mix of Korean mythology, flying swords-person action, heartbreaking romance, radical self acceptance and all with a K-Pop soundtrack that lets be clear... absolutely slaps.

We have a special guest for this show, with our beloved Ardella (Bec) chiming in to profess her undying love of this unexpected gem! Dion may have his demonic grump on, but Jill and Quinny both are singing from the hymn-book of hon-moon creation.
Synopsis
K-Pop Demon Hunters" tells the story of a K-pop girl group, Huntrix, who are also demon hunters, tasked with protecting the world from demons and their king, Gwi-Ma. They use their music to maintain a magical barrier called the Honmoon and work towards strengthening it into the Golden Honmoon, which would permanently banish demons. Their mission is complicated when a rival demon boy band, the Saja Boys, emerges, stealing their fans and weakening the Honmoon.

That's true. They didn't use that enough in the film. I don't think they're just having Sue just kind of being like, what are you guys talking about and freaking people out because, you know, I do, if I were the Invisible Man.
