Do you really know that you’re God’s beloved? In this episode, we reflect on Jesus’s baptism and that unforgettable moment when God’s voice says, “You are my beloved.” That love isn’t just for Jesus—it’s for us too. When we let God’s love sink in, it brings peace, courage, and a bigger heart for the people around us. As the new year begins, let’s claim our belovedness and see how it can shape the way we live, pray, and love.

This Epiphany Gospel reflection looks beyond the familiardetails of the nativity to uncover a deeper truth: Jesus is born into a divided world to draw all people together. Reflecting on the Epiphany story in Matthew, we’ll reflect on how the magi reveal God’s wide embrace—and how we are called to live that belonging today.

This Feast of the Holy Family podcast offers a gentle, contemplative reflection on Matthew’s Gospel and the story of Joseph’s dreams, courage, and trust in God amid uncertainty. Three Sisters of Divine Providence pray with this lesser-seen side of the Christmas story—one marked by fear, flight, and faithful action. Together, they reflect on discernment, decision-making, and how God continues to speak in our lives today, even when we don’t know the whole picture. Join us for a prayerful pause to listen, trust, and follow God’s call one step at a time.

To enter this lovely Advent Season of waiting in joyful hope, we're going to mix it up a little on the podcast. Rather than the usual reflection, I’ll offer a guided prayer, a simple reflection on a Scripture passage. I'll share a few of my thoughts and also leave a space of silence for your prayer. I hope Spirit will speak to each of us, and you’re welcome to share your thoughts with me. Let’s hold each other in prayer over these sacred days.

In this episode, we explore the quiet, tender work of waiting in joyful hope—a deeply human and deeply spiritual posture. Through the lens of Advent, we reflect on what it means to wait with longing, to trust in God’s timing, and to find hope not by escaping struggle, but by moving through it with faith.
Walk with Mary and Joseph as they navigate uncertainty, vulnerability, and promise. Discover how holy waiting becomes active, how trust gives birth to hope, and how God’spresence unfolds in the slow, sacred spaces of our lives.
If you’re longing for stillness, encouragement, or renewed hope, this reflection offers a gentle place to pause and breathe.

I wonder if this feast of Christ the King is as much about Christ’s leadership as it is about our call to serve. As Christ’s disciples, we use our gifts in the service of mission and, like Christ, we use any power we have to serve people.

God is with us however we are — when we feel like quitting or when we persevere, when we feel happy or just way less sad. If the world is ending, God is in that, and if it’s not but it just feels pretty desolate, God’s with us in that too. However we find ourselves these days, I hope we can turn toward God in love and trust.

God wants us as we are. No bravado, no discarding our own worth. God receives us – all that we are, our past, our present, our brokenness and giftedness — the whole of each of us. God loves us however we show up. And God always shows up for us.

Some things are worth fighting for, and we stand together and carry what we need to carry and hold each other up. However, there are times when we must lie down before God and find rest. Our God, who doesn’t need to be pestered to listen, is with us.

The more that I, and we, live and grow into the fullness of being to which God calls us, the more we belong to God and ourselves. When we belong like that, we’ll find belonging wherever we are.

Even if we aren’t feeling it and we sort of quiet quit our spiritual lives for a minute, God never quits on us. The Holy Spirit will fuel and fan our fires and stir up our spiritual lives. So, Beloved, stir into flame the gift of God that you have, or just be patient. God will stir it up soon enough.

Prophets comfort the afflicted and afflict the comfortable, and maybe that's what our prophets are doing -- afflicting us until we shift our expectations and attitudes. Attitude shifts are often uncomfortable for me, but that’s okay. A little discomfort never hurt me and, in fact, sometimes it helps me to grow.

There’s probably never been a time when there weren’t deceitful people, but our present age feels particularly corrupt. As we acknowledge this and negotiate it as bestwe can, we can be single-hearted in following God and loving other people. Thanks be to God for prudence and guidance and for the gift of each other for supportand care.

As we commemorate the Feast of the Exaltation of the HolyCross, we might wonder why we celebrate the cross, a symbol of suffering and death. I don’t know about you, but when I’m in the midst of my own pain, my first reaction is not to praise it. Why would I rejoice in it? Let’s see whatthe Spirit has to say to us about the crosses in our lives . . .

It seems like Jesus is asking us to make a strategy around our discipleship, planning like we would do if we were doing a building project. But how do you plan in the spiritual life, especially as a finite human in the face of the omniscient mystery of God?
