WHAT IS AN EX. LAP? An exploratory Laparotomy is a consented surgical procedure into the abdominal cavity through a midline incision. This procedure is worded vaguely due to the many possibilities that can bring pain and discomfort to a patient. This is why we, the Surgical Technologist have to prepare for the worst so that your base is covered. This episode will cover basic packs, drapes, instruments trays, soft supplies, suture, dressings, and drains. We will also be discussing different stapling devices used for these kinds of cases, so if you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me via the Anchor message board or any other social media.

In this episode, I discuss my experiences from enrolling in a private college, my ups and downs in the Surgical Technology Program as well as my achievements through Internship at a huge teaching facility in Los Angeles, Ca. I give tips and points on how to be a successful student trying to adapt and absorb huge amounts of information in such a short period of time. This profession's technology is constantly evolving which makes it even more intriguing, so students please do not feel like an outcast because believe it or not we have all been through what you are currently going through or preparing to go through. All I can say is stay strong and trust in the theory you have learned and apply it in the field, if you fail, you get up and do it again until you get comfortable and be prepared at all times. Surgery can go south real quickly so be prepared for the unexpected, always. Hopefully, you enjoyed this podcast and found it informative, I will be posting basic setups and understanding of various surgical procedures such as Laparoscopic vs. Open, Orthopedic basic set-ups, trays, and concepts, and much, much more.

The routes that you can take to become a Surgical Technologist, can either be through a 2-year college or a private college such as American Career College, CNI, Concorde, and many many more etc.,
Things to look for in a private college is making sure that the private college of your choosing is State certified for that particular program or you will never be able to sit for the State exam. Please do your due diligence and research the schools that you want to attend.
Here is the main certifying body @ https://www.ast.org/
