Episode 16: The Holiday

Happy Holidays everyone! We hope you’re enjoying the holiday season! One of our two holiday films this year is The Holiday! We also have a guest co-host!

Today, Cassie joins us on the pod to chat about the film!

Cassie is the owner of Tinker & Trade and the co-owner of The Broken Spine, one of our podcast sponsors!

Based in the Brewerytown neighborhood of Philadelphia, The Broken Spine is Philly’s first romance-exclusive bookstore and is located in Tinker & Trade, a boutique featuring unique, handmade goods from 35 local artisans and artists!

Thank you for joining us on the podcast, Cassie!! We had so much fun chatting about The Holiday and what the film means to you!

The Holiday (2006) stars Cameron Diaz, Jack Black, Jude Law, Kate Winslet, and Eli Wallach. Amanda (Diaz) is based in LA and after a break-up decides to take a vacation over the Christmas holiday. Iris (Winslet) is based in Surrey, United Kingdom and similarly decides she needs a holiday as well. After meeting virtually on a Home Exchange website, they switch homes for two weeks. In an attempt to not think about love and relationships, they end up learning how love finds them when they least expect it.

The film was written, produced, and directed by Nancy Meyers, a fellow Philadelphian! The score for the movie is composed by Hans Zimmer.

The Holiday is available for rent or purchase on streaming. Check out your local library to borrow the film as well.

We mention a few films in this episode that are referenced in the movie.

  • The Lady Eve (1941) | BFI

  • Bluebeard's Eighth Wife

Enjoy the episode, and let us know what you think of the movie and this episode!
