Boyd is a transsexual man, who has set 2 legal precedents; that have made Canadian History and worldwide news headlines. Award winning musician, songwriter, filmmaker, curator, festival director, writer, event producer, programmer, human rights activist, and Chair of the Toronto Trans Alliance. Born in London England March 18, 1954 as Jan Waterman. With a great hearing talent to recognize and connect with musical instruments; was given extracurricular classical musical training at the age of 9. By age 13, he was performing as a percussionist with Orchestras, Symphonies, and various bands in a variety of styles. Prior to transitioning(1993, Waterman vs National Life)he set an Ontario Human Rights Commission precedent; referred to in the Human Rights Code and teaching materials in Ontario. It’s referred to as the beginning of L&G history in Canada. During his transitioning years in the mid 1990’s he became involved with Trans in the media. On the LGBTQ+ Programming committee helping to curate numerous Trans programs for festivals worldwide(was the ED of the Counting Past 2 TS/IS/TG Festival ‘99-2002). Boyd has been involved in producing 9 shorts for the festival circuit, and 45 broadcast segments on LGBTQ+ life . He also coproduced the graphic novel, A Not So Fairy Toxic Tale. He is a recipient of the "Proud Hero" and 2011 INSPIRE Lifetime Achievement Award. In 2012 was inducted into the “International LBGT Hall of Fame”. The remedy mandated in his 2016 victory required the formation of a Trans Gender committee; that helped Toronto Police Services to revise all polices, procedures and training, regarding Trans people. This became Boyd’s second historical Human Rights victory. It’s hoped that the framework of this unique undertaking, will become the prototype for other organizations. The first completed stage of this massive project was shared in a town hall presented by the Chief of Police on January 19 and March 23, 2022. Boyd will be one of the inductees into the “LGBTQ+Walk of Heroes Monument” currently being built in Toronto.

In the 1960’s his father sold his cabinet business to embark on establishing a home building business with Reverend Greg alongside him in 1975 and in 1976 got married. Well into the 1980’s and 90’s grew his businessAs the general home building contractor; with all financial matters related to real estate(contracts, mortgages and commercial/sales) educational studies of commerce. Reverend Greg Bright liked the lifestyle options Okanagan had presented and in 2000 decided to move there.
