Watch your grammar on this week's episode of The Tingles! Our hosts Bob and Mike welcome Kara Kilfoil, professor of English at Saint Francis Xavier University, mother of three teens and fan of all things Gord Downie and The Tragically Hip.
Kara's journey from Musquodoboit to Calgary and eventually back to her home province is dotted with musical adventures, from her discovery of cool new music at Cafe Ole in Halifax (where she may have seen Bob's old band) to Red Rocks Amphitheatre (where she definitely did not) and countless shows and experiences in between.
Kara puts her PhD to work as we discuss lyrics as poetry and the transcendent nature of the right song at the right moment. We also talk vinyl collections and of course, Gord Downie. Join us for another excellent musical adventure on Episode 27 of The Tingles.

Hello Tinglers! Welcome to our 25th episode, where we're rolling out a more focused and intimate format we like to call 'The Single Tingle.'
This week, we’re joined by the wonderful Scotsman, Keith Moore, who takes us on a captivating musical journey from his childhood growing up in one of Scotland’s poorest postal codes, to his current life in Canada where he's found happiness with his wife and young son.
During our time together, we'll explore how the rebellious music of the Thatcher era gave voice to the anger of his generation, hear about his chance encounter with a football scout that paved the way for a career in professional football across the globe and, of course, dive into the music that has shaped and inspired him throughout these adventures.
Join us for another electrifying episode of The Tingles, guaranteed to send delightful shivers down your spine!
Hey Tinglers! Get ready to embark on a sonic journey that will take your ear holes to dreamy landscapes filled with swirling guitars, hazy vocals, and walls of sound - or is it just noise?
That's right, on this episode we are exploring Shoegaze, perhaps the most misunderstood genre in the pop/rock music spectrum. Luckily our hosts and brothers-from-different-mothers Mike and Bob are joined by Simon LeClerc, host of the DKFM show Melomania Safety Zone, who helps them navigate the subtleties of this mesmerizing soundscape, from the noise-forward origins of the style to the latest dream-pop vibes. I mean who needs eye contact when you can create mind-blowing music, right?
Get your frisson on as you mope around the dance floor to the sonic waves of My Bloody Valentine, Slowdive and more on this week's episode of The Tingles. Maybe you will even find a new appreciation for your own footwear!
This weeks tracklist:
My Bloody Valentine | Only Shallow
Slowdive | When the Sun Hits
The Radio Dept. | Pulling Our Weight
Kinoshita Fuyou | My Dead Girlfriend
Pia Fraus | Deep Purple Girl
This week our hosts and brothers-from-different-mothers, Mike and Bob, take a deep dive into arguably the biggest Irish musical export since the uilleann pipes.
U2 exploded from the Emerald Isle in the late 1970s with music that vibrated with anger and protest and energy. Throughout the 80s their music matured, but their style remained easily identifiable. The 90s were a decade of exploration, with Bono, The Edge, Larry and Adam pushing musical boundaries, mixing sound and visuals into grandiose concert productions. The double-naughts saw the band release some of their biggest singles; anthems specifically created for the huge stadium shows that by now had become the hallmark of the band.
And through it all, as any true U2 fans would, Bob and Mike have argued over the best era of the band. Bob favours the 90s and beyond but Mike stubbornly refuses to leave the 80s and argues for that era as the best U2 Tingles period. Which U2 incarnation will win the battle of the Feels? Find out on the latest episode of the Tingles!
On this episode of The Tingles podcast, we take a deep dive into the musical legacy of The Beach Boys. Our hosts Bob and Mike are joined by special guest Jason MacIsaac, musical leader of the chamber pop group Heavy Blinkers and Beach Boys super-fan. Mike has a fan-boy moment and then proceeds to geek out with Jason as the two spin tracks and profess their love for all things Beach Boys, all while trying to educate Bob about the pop/rock genius of Brian, Carl, Dennis, Mike, Al, David, Bruce, Blondie and Ricky.
From There to Back Again, we examine how the music of the Beach Boys has brought a tear to the eye and a lump to the throat of generations of fans.
Will Bob give up on Radiohead, put his feet in the sand and become a Beach Boys disciple? Tune in, like, comment and subscribe to The Tingles.
We're back with a brand new episode Tinglers, and you better buckle up! This week we welcome In-Flight Safety frontman, the Juno nominated, East Coast Music Award-winning producer, John Mullane to the ring to take on the band's own road manager, legal advisor, and friend, Jim Cunningham. Who will heave the most musical shoryukens and who will toss in the towel first in this musical taste showdown? Find out on this week's episode of The Tingles.
The Tingles took an unexpected hiatus this past March when host Bob Mills’ brother, David, tragically died by suicide. In this return episode of The Tingles, Bob and Mike invited 3 of Dave’s closest friends, Chris Hotchkiss, Jason MacDonald, and Ben Kean, to discuss the music that formed the soundtrack of their lives together. What emerged is a poignant - yet uplifting and funny - look into a brother, friend, and local legend whose life ended too soon.
