S5E21 - The Crusades, Propaganda and Politics with Daniel Torridon
In this episode Kyle and Chris reunite with their mate across the pond--Daniel Torridon--of the Onion Unlimited Podcast. This one doesn't go quite as planned, when an off-hand remark about the Crusades unexpectedly ignites a tense discussion on politics, Christianity and propaganda. We cover political Islam, Christian morals as a social prescription, free speech and revisionist history. From a discussion of political manipulation, we move to the manipulation of social media algorithms and wrap up with a bit of speculation on the nature of spirit. Enjoy ;)

S5E20 - Cannabis and Islam
In this episode Kyle and Chris reunite for an open and honest dialogue about the realities of cannabis and its effects, both positive and negative. Is it medicine, a slippery slope into psychological and physiological dependence or a mixed bag with plenty of grey area? They recount their experiences and hold nothing back. The conversation then turns to the topic of Islam and its cultural encroachment in the West. We discuss critical scholarship of the Quran and compare the examples of the Biblical Jesus to that of Muhammad. This topic wouldn't be complete without a critique of the political power games involved and the propaganda finding its way into the news and our social media feed. Strap in! Enjoy ;)

S5E17 - On the Mysteries - AUDIO FIXED
**Re-publishing this one with improved audio** In this episode Chris explores the ideas of the ancient Greek, Neoplatonic philosopher--Iamblichus--through his correspondence with an ancient Egyptian priest. Iamblichus does something no philosopher did before him, at least not to such a degree; he questioned religious orthodoxy, expressed skepticism about the legitimacy of religious ritual and sacrifice and even of the priesthood itself. Along the way, however, he's striving to understand the nature of the divine at the deepest level. It turns out, there was no better source for answers to religious questions than the Egyptian priesthood, who benefited from the oldest and grandest religious tradition in all of the ancient world. And what did Iamblichus learn? It's not at all what you'd expect.  Enjoy ;)

S5E18 - The Religions of El and Yahweh - The Indo-European Roots of Monotheism
In this episode Chris delivers Opinion Scholarship on the origins of Judeo-Christian monotheism. He takes us through the archeological record, exploring the Canaanite religion of El and seeking the mysterious origin of Yahweh. The questions arise: Was the religion of El the same as the religion of Yahweh? and Was El the same god as Yahweh? From here we step into controversial territory as we explore the possibility that both Yahweh and monotheism come not from ancient Judea, but from the Indo-European tribes of Europe. Enjoy ;)

S5E16 - The Philosophic Image of God
In this episode Chris engages with the ideas of author--Brian Cranely, in his book The Call of Wonder. He discusses the importance of the human experience of wonder and awe as a catalyst for opening one's mind to realities greater than oneself. He then moves to the Western philosophical tradition to trace how we have wrestled with the idea of 'greater realities,' leading to Plato's idea of forms and eventually to the realm of spirit as formulated in our religious traditions. Next, we trace the pedigree of the idea of God with a capital 'G,' beginning with Plato's idea of the Form of the Good in distinction to the gods of Olympus. From there we arrive at Aristotle's First Cause and start to pin down the qualities that such a thing must necessarily have--Unity, Eternity and Unknowability. From this basic pattern we arrive at the religious idea of the Image of God and describe how it is reflected in cosmology, biology and consciousness. Enjoy ;)

S5E15 - Debate, Discussion, Charlie Kirk and the Future of America
In this episode Kyle and Chris reflect on the tragic death of Charlie Kirk. We discuss the state of discourse in the United States, the prevalence of debate over discussion and the slow progress of leftist totalitarianism and identity politics. We ask the question: How do we diagnose the cause of this new stream of anti-Western political violence? And after we're done licking our wounds, we ask: What can be done and what should be done to remove this cancer from our social body. We agree on one thing...that justice delivered to Charlie's killer is insufficient to prevent such things from recurring. More must be done. The public has expectations here from our leaders. Let's just hope they rise to the occasion. Enjoy ;)

S5E14 - The Call of Wonder
In this episode Chris interviews author Brian Cranely about his new book 'The Call of Wonder'. Brian studied biomedical engineering and built a career in the field before heeding the call of wonder, which put is professional career on hold in favor of divinity school where we received his graduate degree along with a heaping helping of philosophy! Brian's unique background, weighted equally in the domains of science and religion, inspired the message which became 'The Call of Wonder.' We discuss the key discoveries of ancient Greek philosophy, which , through logic and reason alone, brought such figures as Plato and Aristotle right to the precipice of monotheistic revelation. We touch on the impact of Greek philosophy on the early development of Christianity and on the medieval scholastic tradition, which succeeded in synthesizing them. And finally, we reach deeply into the speculative, discussing the Biblical 'Image of God' and how it can be seen reflected fractally in each of the great unexplained mysteries of science--the origin of the cosmos, of life and of the psyche. Check Brian out at: briancranely.com & buy the book on Amazon: https://a.co/d/8cMP2JO Enjoy ;)

S5E9 - Accidental Discharge
In this episode the Two Tongues do a bit of storytelling. Chris opens by describing an uncanny middle-age experience of living out the role of his own father, but then things digress. Chris shares a story of trauma involving the accidental discharge of a firearm. We discuss the phenomena of 'fear-induced orgasm,' Stockholm syndrome and the strangeness of kinks. And only then, after everyone is good and uncomfortable, do we dive into the headlines. We cover Zohran Mamdani, popular communist sympathy and ponder if this new era of anti-white and anti-western activism is ushering in a new and novel form of conquest and colonization.  Enjoy :)

S5E8 - Resentment is a Hell of a Drug
This episode revolves around "Resentment" as a human motivation. We begin with a discussion of a debate conducted by two AI's on the topic of Capitalism vs Socialism and remark on how whinny, nit-picky and generally ungrateful the Socialist bot's arguments were. From here we move into the topic of racial violence in South Africa, apartheid and the history of Rhodesia. Here we again find ourselves discussing resentment as it pertains to social unrest and human tribalism. Next we tackle grandiose ideas, which have played out in human history such as: Manifest Destiny, the Divine Right of Kings and the Right of Conquest. And, as you probably guessed, we can't discuss the Right of Conquest without a detour into the Gaza-Israel conflict and the resentment that so often comes with Imperialism and Colonialism. And finally, we wrap with a commentary on freedom of speech, whether speech can be violence (or incite it) and the special status given to the so-called N-word. Enjoy :)

S5E7 - I Found My ASMR
In this episode Kyle and Chris reunite after several weeks off. They discuss Chris' family vacation to the frontier lands of West Texas and his friggin' sweet cowboy hat. They then turn to their latest YouTube rabbit-holes including what Chris calls his 'ASMR,' which turns out to be time-lapse videos of landscaping and antique restoration. What's more satisfying than a good 'before-and-after' photo? A few words on seeing Kevin Nealon doing stand-up and Chris' friend's terrarium project, which is a miniature Tolkien forest complete with hobbit-hole, etc. Then we arrive in more somber territory, discussing the decline of race relations in the U.S. and the increasing violent and resentful rhetoric that seems to rampant these days. A few examples from the news courtesy of Governor Pritzker of Illinois and a lowly high school teacher, bring us home. Enjoy ;)

S5E6 - A Lot Going On
In this episode Kyle and Chris return to the topic of current events. We talk about Trump's tariffs and the reactionaries in the news media. Are there chinks beginning to appear in the armor of MAGA enthusiasm? Maybe, maybe not, but according to Chris, it's too soon to tell. Are we dealing with the art of the deal through the haze of strategic uncertainty or are the markets poised to take us all down? We compare the subprime mortgage market crash of the early 2000s with what's going on today. Chris is optimistic (surprise, surprise), Kyle is more leery. Not to forget pop-culture, we also discuss the Dave Smith-Douglas Murray debate on JRE and round things off with the hits and misses of Apple TV's current line-up including: Shrinking, Severance and Ted Lasso. Enjoy ;)

S5E5 - From Pelas to Hellas - The Creation Myths of Ancient Greece
In this episode Chris brings us Opinion Scholarship on the Creation myths of ancient Greece. We begin with an exploration of so-called "Old Europe" and a cavalcade of archeological evidence of the Great Mother Goddess religion that prevailed in the Stone Age. From there we follow Author--Robert Graves--as he reconstructs from ancient sources the oldest Creation myths of Greece; following the symbolic breadcrumbs which connect Zeus and the Olympians with the Great Mother Goddess who came before them. This takes us from Homer and the Orphics to the Bible, into Zoroastrianism and Ancient Egyptian myth, then we trip over Homer, Hesiod and Apollodorus and fall squarely into the Aryan migration theory (which we navigate tactfully). And before all is said and done, we pepper in a dash of depth psychology. Enjoy ;)

S5E4 - Kaczynski Part 2 - An Utterly Reckless Ride into the Unknown
In this episode Chris and Kyle conclude their exploration of the infamous Ted Kaczynski manifesto titled: “Industrial Society and It’s Future.” The later section covered in this episode hinges on one existential dialectic--Technology or Freedom?  We discuss Kaczynski's opinion about the nature of freedom and how it's preservation is inconsistent with the endless advancement of technology. What will it be, Modern Man? An apocalypse Terminator-style, a voluntary species-wide self-sacrifice...or perhaps something else. Can the advance of technology provide an alternative? Might our enslaver become our savior? Or, might there be a place for two versions of society to exist alongside each other? Could Brave New World have provided the blueprint? Advanced technological utopia on one side, and "primitive" reservations on the other? Enjoy :)

S5E3 - Kaczynski Part 1 - Madman or Coal Mine Canary
How does a child math prodigy with an Ivy League pedigree turn into a domestic terrorist? What could drive such a person to sacrifice their future? For what end? What could possibly be worth it? How about saving the world? In this episode we discuss Ted Kaczynski aka the UNABOMER. Straight to the horses mouth, we let Ted tell his side of the story, reading through his infamous 50 page manifesto titled: “Industrial Society and It’s Future.” Was Kaczynski a madman bent on destruction or was he something more? Was his beef with a future technological utopia or was it with the ideological left? If that question surprises you, strap in! 'cause you're in for an enlightening stroll through history, propaganda and the mind of desperate, troubled, genius. Enjoy ;)
