UNFC is built upon three, equally weighted criteria to classify resource projects, Degree of Confidence (estimates of resource quantities), Technical Feasibility (maturity of technology, studies, commitments etc.), and Environmental-Socio-Economic Viability. This Environmental-Socio-Economic Viability criterion, or E Axis encompasses legal, regulatory, social, environmental and contractual conditions, and market prices.
Our guest today is Dr Rose Clarke, Sustainability Lead and Director of Operations at Satarla who will be discussing sustainability within the raw materials sector and how it is core to the UNFC’s E Axis.
🎙️Hosted by Alexander Fuentes and Chris Stockey - Satarla.

In this episode we’ll be digging into the details of sustainable resource management. For this we can’t only look to the United Nations Framework Classification for resources, but also need to involve another related UNECE framework, the United Nations Resource Management System or UNRMS.
Joining us today is Dr Eva Marquis of the Camborne School of Mines, part of the Critical Minerals Challenge Centre team, and also part of the UK International Centre of Excellence in Sustainable Resource Management. We’ll be discussing the intersection of research, industry, and policy, and of course how UNRMS can support UNFC in development of the raw materials we need in the most sustainable manner.
🎙️Hosted by Alexander Fuentes and Chris Stockey.

Building on the previous episode where we looked at the relationship between UNFC and CRIRSCO reporting codes, in today’s Episode 6 we’ll be discussing the application of UNFC from a geosurvey and practical resource management perspective.
Our guest on today’s episode is Tom Bide, a Senior Mineral Resource Geologist at the British Geological Survey and a member of the UK International Centre of Excellence for Sustainable Resource Management, who will be talking us through how UNFC works at a regional and national scale, and much more.
On Wednesday 3 December 2025 Tom will be speaking at The Global Challenge of Sand Mining - International Conference, a hybrid one day event; attendance of which can be done both online, and also in person at Burlington House, Geological Society of London, London. A necessary and engaging exploration of the world’s second most used raw material, the often overlooked, and under-appreciated sand:

In this episode of the podcast we’ll be exploring the complex relationship between United Nations Framework Classification for Resources (UNFC) and other mineral reporting systems, in this case the CRIRSCO family of codes.
We are joined today by Ed Sides, a member of PERC, The Pan-European Reserves and Resources Committee since 2014 and who served as its Chairperson from 2021 until earlier this year.
He has represented PERC on the international reporting body CRIRSCO since 2020 and is currently its Deputy-Chair and Chairperson elect.
He is a member of the joint CRIRSCO-UNECE working group which was responsible for updating the CRIRSCO Template to UNFC Bridging Document in 2024 and 2025.
Listen into to discover the history behind UNFC and CRIRSCO, as tools for classification and reporting respectively, as well as the developing future of their interesting and interlinked relationship.
