5 years ago, I shot my finger with a nail gun - I've recovered most of my functionality but I can hardly believe it has been 5 years!

These are my hands - 5 years ago - (My mommy did my nails!)

They were pretty great hands if I do say so myself, maybe the index fingers are a lil crooked, but they were strong hands that got the job done!

Then disaster struck - I was working construction, putting the finishing touches on roof trusses when the last shot fired through the gun hit a knot and came out the side of the board instead of going straight through the two I was attempting to nail together! The first thing that ran through my head when this happened was - YOU JUST STARTED STUDYING HOW TO FIX PEOPLE WILL YOU EVER BE ABLE TO MASSAGE AGAIN!?

This pinned me to the truss, and I had to get a fellow co-worker cut me out of the roof and drive me to the Summer-land walk-in, where we were told they wouldn't be able to do that here, so we had to drive to Penticton. Once inside the hospital, I asked 'Can someone please get this **** Board off my hand?!' Ok ok maybe not the smartest thing to say, but instantly the ER went quiet, everyone looked, paused and then rushed to get me a wheelchair; X-rays and Ativan were given. I eventually chose to walk, it was just my hand after all, and I still remember walking around being like weeeeeee no pain this is cool, as I rocked back and forth on my steel toes lol 

I found out through x-rays that the nail had hit the knuckle bone, but it bumped off it and went straight through and into the other finger. Lucky me - They cut my glove off, and as they didn't have the right tool to remove the nail from someone's finger, for the job, they used a set of side-cutters, then removed it.

Once bandaged up, it was now time to wait and see how long it would take to repair. I still continued to finish my studies, though it took a year to get back to basic functionality, another year to get typing skills back, and ANOTHER year to get my gaming timing back! And last year, I could almost close my fist - This year, I can!!!!! There is definitely still a lot of scar tissue under the knuckle, but I am extremely certain that continuing this treatment, it will be as good as new!

It's been 5 years guys...5 Years...
