Philip is one of the original figures of UK UFO research, someone who has been investigating, documenting, and writing about the phenomenon for decades. Long before the topic became mainstream, he was already on the ground, interviewing witnesses, examining cases, and helping to shape serious UFO investigation in the UK.

He’s widely regarded as one of the country’s most respected researchers and authors on the subject, with a body of work that has influenced generations of investigators and enthusiasts alike.For this conversation, I traveled to meet Philip in person, as part of a new series where I go out in to the field to find the most interesting people to talk to.

On December 26th, 1980—a night permanently stamped into the mythology of modern UFO history—the Rendlesham Forest Incident unfolded, now known worldwide as the “British Roswell.” Just miles from that forest, on that same charged night, a United States Air Force pilot stationed in the UK encountered something extraordinary. What you’re about to see: short, high-frame drone footage shot during lockdown (22 June 2020) that shows a strange object in-frame for just 13 frames at 50 fps — that’s ≈0.26 seconds. The drone was flying at \~60–70 ft (≈18–21 m). Using Jay’s working distance (\~20 m) the straight-pass speed comes out around \~277 km/h (≈172 mph); depending on distance the estimate ranges roughly 208–346 km/h.Then, oddly, the object executes a 180° turn and flies back along almost the same path — silent, fast, and without any reported take off, landing or sound on the quay. Reverse image searches of the stills returned nothing.In this episode I speak to Jay Enticknap — musician, filmmaker and the person who shot the clip. Jay had already done a lot of his own homework before we spoke, and he was brilliant to talk to on and off camera: measured, curious and open. Together we watch the footage frame-by-frame, show the math, and explore which conventional explanations could fit.
