Vital signs are things that determine how healthy our walk with God is, and they consist of prayer, fasting, giving, evangelism, e.t.c
When it comes to fasting, it is the willful abstinence from physical pleasure for spiritual purposes.
We fast so that we can strengthen our focus on God. Job 23:12 and Hebrews 12 remind us that fasting helps us to fix our gaze on God. The goal of fasting is to realign our priorities and redirect our attention to God, not to impress people or seek human recognition.
In this teaching, we were taught that we fast for various reasons some of which includes the facts that fasting amplifies our prayer and Bible study life, creating space for deeper intimacy with God. Fasting also helps us develop spiritual discipline; it strengthens our spirit to have authority over our flesh. Finally, fasting is an act of obedience to God’s word.
Fasting is not only about abstaining from food; it can also involve refraining from anything that distracts us from God and its goal is not to punish the body but to train it to submit to the Spirit.
