I've decided that every third week of the month, I will recommend a book that I've found to be helpful, enlightening, eye-opening, or useful at this time of my life. This is my first book recommendation episode. This month's book is entitled This Chair Rocks, A Manifesto Against Ageism by Ashton Applewhite.

In this episode, I'm discussing a serious public health issue that existed long before Covid-19: Loneliness. Today, we're addressing loneliness as it shows up in older age, what we can do in our daily lives to assist those who are experiencing loneliness, and what we can do if we are personally experiencing loneliness.

In this episode, I dig into the complicated relationship between women and their bodies. The relationship may become more complicated as we age out of society's prevailing notions of physical beauty, or maybe the relationship becomes clearer and more simple. Negative body image can lead to mental health issues, physical health issues, and eating disorders. As I researched for this episode, I found information about eating disorders in women over 50.

In this episode, I am sharing details about some ways you might be holding yourself back from living vibrantly and chasing your big dreams, and some activities or practices to help you overcome those obstacles.
You might not know what you want to do
You might be buying into ageist norms and stereotypes
You might think your dreams are preposterous
You might not think you have what it takes
You might not have a support system encouraging you to make your dreams come true

Sometimes we don't find what we were meant to do until later in life, and when we do we surprise ourselves with how good we are at it. This is what happened to Cindy Hedges when her husband convinced her to open Bourbon Boot Supply, where she found serving a niche and providing great customer service was something she excelled at. She joins me today as we talk all about what she's learned about opening a business later in life.

In this episode, I’m exploring the concept of rituals - what they are, the different types of rituals, and the purposes they serve. Most rituals we see in Western culture revolve around younger people, which poses the question: how can we incorporate rituals related to aging? I hope this episode gives you some ideas about how you can create some rituals of your own, both daily and ceremonial, to celebrate the passing through new thresholds of your life.
