Learning beyond the classroom: What schools do NOT teach you

Learning beyond the classroom: What schools do NOT teach you

Here is my interview with a group of high school interns from WorkWonder

This summer, I have the great honor to work with a group of hardworking high school interns and coach them on LinkedIn, Social Media, and Entrepreneurship

A project that we are working on right now is to help each intern launch a live streaming show

The goal of this project is to help these interns

📌 Develop essential life skills such as communication, listening, interviewing, and public speaking

📌 Learn the ins and outs of live streaming so that they can fully embrace the Creator Economy

📌 Grow their professional network through digital networking and interviewing professionals in their career field

The results have been amazing

----

QUESTIONS TO DISCUSS

📌 How do today's young people use and perceive social media?

📌 What most teachers do NOT know about social media?

📌 How do today's young people perceive the value of school-based learning? What do they like and don't like about it?

📌 What are the missing links in today's education?

📌 Why is it no longer an option but a necessity to learn OUTSIDE the classroom?

And much more

The Tragic Cost of Academic Achievement

The Tragic Cost of Academic Achievement

Here is my interview with Pam Roy, a meaningful education advocate and the co-founder of Straight-Up Impact & The Viktor Frankl Institute of America

Striving for academic excellence & achievement is a common measure of success at many schools across the world

Grades & test scores have become a default measurement & predictor of one's success later in life

Few people actually question the legitimacy behind this arbitrary definition of success

Even fewer people are aware of the REAL, TRAGIC COST of academic achievement  Which is why I launched this weekly live show, WHAT IS SCHOOL FOR

Its purpose is to DISCUSS, DEBATE & DISRUPT #ducation so that we become educated about the unknown & undiscussed ramifications behind today's education model

 --

Excited to have Pam Roy on my show to discuss

Mackenzie, a film that she co-produced, discusses the tragic costs of academic achievement

Pam is an advocate for meaningful education

She is also the co-founder of Straight-Up Impact + The Viktor Frankl Institute of America

--

QUESTIONS

❓How is the industrial education model affecting teenage mental health

❓What are the missing links in today's education

"The Collapse of Parenting" With Dr. Leonard Sax

"The Collapse of Parenting"

Here is my interview with Dr. Leonard Sax, a globally recognized physician, author, and speaker

I have been a mom for almost a decade  Over the last ten years, I have learned TWO important lessons about parenting

Parenting is THE hardest job ever

Parenting is a learned skill

As parents, we need to take CHARGE of our own kids' education AS OPPOSED TO outsourcing our kids' education to a school...

I truly believe school learning is only 20%  📌80% happens OUTSIDE the classroom, which is the essence of ClassroomWithoutWalls

I am beyond honored to interview a globally recognized physician, author, and speaker, Dr. Leonard Sax

Dr. Sax is the author of several popular parenting books including "The Collapse of Parenting"

Dr. Sax's work has been featured in Fox News, NYT, Today Show, & numerous other places

----

QUESTIONS

❓What's WRONG with today's parenting?

❓Why have schools become UNFRIENDLY to boys? And in what ways?

❓The effects of video games on kids, especially boys?

❓How should we do parenting in the 21st-century to raise happy, healthy, and successful kids?

Pursuing a Career in Tech: What You Must Know

Here is my interview with Phil Kasiecki, a senior software engineer and technical mentor

Technology is one of the most promising career fields

Schooling VS Education: The Power of Child-Directed Learning

Schooling VS Education: The Power of Child-Directed Learning

Here is my interview with Dr. Peter Gray, a pioneer in alternative education

What is the purpose of education?

What's exactly what I aim to discuss on this weekly live show, What Is School For

❓ Is education the same as schooling?

❓ Do you only go to a school to learn?

❓ Can we trust our children's intrinsic desire to learn, be curious, and stay motivated?

And more importantly,

❓ Why does formal schooling tend to kill students' creativity and passion?

❓ Why is it important to let our kids have free and unstructured playtime?

❓ Is social media as bad as the media portrays

These are the questions that I will be discussing with an alternative education expert, Dr. Peter Gray

Dr. Gray is my go-to person when it comes to homeschooling, unschooling, and alternative learning

He is also:

➡️ The author of Free to Learn

➡️ A professor at Boston College

➡️ A contributor to Psychology Today

Zach is a college dropout but a driven & successful entrepreneur

He started his first business when he was only in middle school

The REAL Cost of Sending Your Kid to A High-Achieving School

The REAL Cost of Sending Your Kid to A High-Achieving School

Here is my interview with a distinguished education and parenting expert, Dr. Suniya Luthar

Sending our kids to a competitive and achieving school seems to be the GOAL for many parents

We naively believe that if we send our kids to the BEST private or Ivy League school, EVERYTHING will be taken care of  Our kids will have a successful and happy life

WRONG

Research has shown, children attending high-achieving schools are actually having MORE mental health issues

They have the same level of mental health issues as kids in poverty, foster care, OR a parent in prison  These are some groundbreaking findings based on Dr. Suniya Luthar's decades of research

Dr. Luthar received her Ph.D. from Yale University

She is a Professor Emerita at Columbia University

And the Co-Founder & Chief Research Officer at Authentic Connections

--

QUESTIONS

❓ Why kids attending high-achieving schools are having SO MANY problems

❓ What are some specific symptoms that these kids have + what we can do

❓Common misperceptions about achieving schools

❓What is the connection between resilience and parent-child relationships  -
