Mount Rushmore of Cool Band Names 😎
We have done a lot of episodes about music including another that involved Band Names. That one specifically was about band names that include an animal in the name. When we made those lists, it didn't really matter how much we liked the band or their music, and this episode is the same way.
For this week's lists we both chose bands that are not among our all time favorites in terms of their music. And one us picked a band he knew very little about. But with all of these we just LOVE their band names. Some are funny, some are a perfect fit with the style of music they play. But in all cases we chose them based solely on the band name - not the music they make.
So as you make your own lists and share them with us keep that in mind. You don't have to like a band's music, to like and appreciate their band name!

We are lovers of loud music. On headphones, in the car, at concerts... you name it. A lifetime of loud music has had an effect on our hearing, but it hasn't forced us to turn it down yet!
Just because a song is a favorite, doesn't mean it's LOUD worthy. Some songs we chose are among our all time favorite songs. But in other cases they are just songs that NEED to be cranked up! And only sound good at a high volume.
If it's too loud... you're too old!

We're not releasing a new episode this week, so just wanted to post a quick video message to thank our listeners for the last year and to wish you all a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.
If you are feeling festive, be sure to check out our episode about Christmas Movies and the one we did a year ago about Christmas Songs.
We'll be back next week with a new episode.
We love the holiday season and everything that comes with it. Last year we did an episode dedicated to Christmas Songs, and this year we decided to tackle Christmas Movies.
With this fun topic we knew we wanted to bring in a guest to help us, but we did even better than that. We brought in TWO guests! Angie Perkins and Molly Duevel (Mark's wife) joined us to share their favorite Christmas movies too. We had some obvious matches between us that may appear on most people's Mount Rushmore. But there were some surprise picks too.
Grab some eggnog, put on your Santa hat and curl up next to a warm fire to listen along! Merry Christmas!

We spun the wheel of names once again! This time it landed on the name Rick. We have done this twice before, with episodes about our favorite people named Steve and our favorite people named Gary.
When it comes to people named Rick, we went back to the root of the name, which of course is Richard. So anyone with a variation or nickname from Richard was on the table. So that meant Richard, Rick, Ricky, Rich, Richie, Dick and Dicky were all names in play! That gave us lots of choices, and between us we only shared one pick.
We covered music, sports, movies, TV, comedy and more with our selections. What "Ricks" would make YOUR Mount Rushmore?

As proud Gen-Xers we grew up with John Hughes movies being a big part of our lives. He wrote and directed some of the most iconic teenage movies of all time. He also wrote many adult comedies too, like The Great Outdoors and Planes, Trains and Automobiles.
We have mentioned a lot of his movies in previous episodes and have hinted that we should just do an episode dedicated to his greatness. So here it is! Narrowing our lists down to just four movies wasn't easy, and we both could have easily picked four more of his movies that we love.

We both admit to not being very big readers. One of us only reads a few books per year and the other one only reads one type of book... autobiographies and biographies. Which is why we're doing this topic!
As we say up front in the episode this will probably be the only book related topic we'll ever tackle, but autobiographies are something we both know a lot about and really enjoy reading. And because of that we had a lot of fun narrowing our picks down to four choices. We cover sports, music, comedy, Hollywood and more with our picks.

We are both sitcom junkies and have been since we were kids. Unfortunately the golden era of the sitcom is probably in the past. Hopefully someday they will make a return to the nightly primetime TV schedule.
There are many different types of sitcoms. Some involve families, some involve couples, some involve single people. But we are pushing those aside this week and focusing on series that take place around a workplace. Where the majority of the time the characters are at work. Or pretending to work anyway.
This doesn't narrow it down as much as you may think. There are still dozens of great options. We chose shows from TV networks, from premium cable channels and representing every decade from the 1980s to today.

In many ways the 1990s were the golden era of rap and hip hop. The songs and artists dominated the Billboard charts and MTV. Mark is a big fan of this style and era of music. While Jon can appreciate it, but it's not his go-to by any means.
Because of this we thought it would be good to bring in a guest. Someone who could educate us! And we got the PERFECT guest in Paco Cerda. As we find out in the episode he is a walking encyclopedia for rap and hip hop music. Being a music producer himself, he brings an extra layer of expertise that we definitely needed for this topic.
Mark and Jon stay closer to the mainstream with their picks, but Paco takes us on a deeper dive, sharing some real gems. This is a fun listen!

As movie buffs we are always quoting lines from our favorite films. Sometimes they come from action movies, sometimes comedy movies. But they are always memorable.
So what exactly makes a "catchphrase" versus just a great line from a movie? We looked for lines that stand out from the movie itself. Lines that became part of pop culture, and people could know the line and even recite it without ever having seen the movie. As we mention in the episode, these catchphrases rise above the movies they came from.
This was a fun one and we may revisit this topic down the road with a Mount Rushmore of TV catchphrases. Grab some popcorn and enjoy this week's episode!

Happy Halloween! It's that spooky time of year and to celebrate we're exploring our Mount Rushmore of Disturbing Movies. To do this the right way, we had to bring back a former guest host, Susan Hanson. She's a horror aficionado who joined us last Halloween for our episode about Slasher Movies. She also happens to be Jon's wife!
We each approached this list a little differently. Some of our picks are great movies that we enjoy watching over and over. Other movies are so disturbing, seeing them just one time was more than enough!
These movies can be scary, psychological, or just plain weird. So as you think about your list and share it in the comments remember there is no wrong answer... if you were disturbed by a movie, let us know!

Cover Songs or song remakes exist in every genre of music. Sometimes you like the original better, other times the cover version is a big improvement. This left a lot of options on the table as we chose our absolute favorite cover songs of all time.
To do this we brought in some help in the form of a big music fan, Travis Perkins. Travis has appeared on our podcast before, as part of our massive "Party Songs" episode in which we had a whole house full of people picking their favorite songs to kickstart a party.
Our picks lean towards rock across the board, which is probably an indicator of the type of music we all like. One of our picks is a cover of a song that was originally recorded more than 85 years ago. Needless to say when that song was mentioned, the other two guys were shocked!

Americans love their Reality TV and we are no different. If you Google Reality TV shows you will literally find hundreds of shows that air on major networks, cable networks, or exclusively on a streaming service. The shows we chose range from competitions to mysteries to sports and even one that takes place on the water. We chose our lists based on shows we watch now, shows we watched in recent years and for one of us I show he watched 30 years ago. That particular show can probably be credited with creating an entire genre of TV that still exists today. Can you guess? Listen to find out! What did we miss? Did we list some of your favorites? Mount Rushmore of Black & White Films 🎬Being we are both Gen Xers, the old days of black and white films were well before our time, but all the same we can appreciate a good movie, regardless of when it was made. Black and white films are a thing of the past, but occasionally one will still get made in modern day Hollywood. In part because of that, most of the movies we chose were made in our lifetimes. So the director made a conscious decision to shoot the movie in black and white when most movies were being filmed in color. Sometimes it was a statement, sometimes it was an issue of budget. But for all the movies we chose it didn't matter - the movies are great just as they are. Hope you agree with us!What did we miss? Did we list some of your favorites? Hate our choices? Mount Rushmore of Sports Teams That No Longer ExistSo many sports teams have come and gone, moved to another city or in some cases went out of business and just disappeared altogether. Nearly every sports market in the country has been the victim of a team leaving them for one reason or another. With all these old teams to choose from, we brought in a true expert for this episode. A local Twin Cities radio fixture, Meatsauce is one of the hosts of the Power Trip Morning Show on KFAN and he knows his sports teams. Those who have seen him, or even just photos of him can probably guess one of his picks. Between the three of us we covered the NBA, NHL, MLB and the NFL with teams that once played in every corner of North America. What sports teams that no longer exist would make YOUR Mount Rushmore? What did we miss? Did we list some of your favorites? Hate our choices? Please leave a comment with your suggestions. Ozzy Osbourne... the Prince of Darkness, the Godfather of Heavy Metal. His music shaped our appreciation for hard rock and metal music at a young age. And his family helped to kick off the whole reality show craze with their MTV series. He was an innovator in so many ways and we wanted to honor him and his legacy. But if you need to list the top 4 songs from his massive catalog, where do you start? Between his solo career and his time as the front man for Black Sabbath he sold more than 100 million albums worldwide. His songs have been featured in countless TV shows and movies. He has influenced just about every hard rock and metal musician of the last 50 years. It was not easy, but we each narrowed our lists down to our top four choices and we're happy with the results. You'll hear songs from his whole career, representing six different albums. And you'll learn some fun facts along the way. RIP Ozzy! 🤘What did we miss? Did we list some of your favorites? The NFL season is underway! Awhile back we did an episode listing our Mount Rushmore of NFL Quarterbacks, and with football back we decided to visit the gridiron once again. We didn't think too much about positions when putting together our Mount Rushmore of NFL Hall of Famers, and by coincidence we both chose different positions for each of our four players. We only match on one guy and if you're a Minnesota sports fan you can probably guess who that was. These lists represent the best of the best on the field, and some very interesting characters off the field. Some of the guys on our lists have made an even bigger name for themselves since they hung up their cleats. What did we miss? Did we list some of your favorites? Hate our choices? Over the years we have always noticed how many songs have a color in their title. And just about every color of the rainbow is represented in some song title somewhere. To make this episode a little more interesting and a little more colorful, we decided to push all songs with the color "black" to the side. Because there are SOOO many of those songs, we'll do a separate episode some time down the road just highlight those songs. In total we have seven different colors listed in our songs, including two gold and one song each in the colors white, blue, red, pink, yellow and even an orange. No need to guess what they were, just listen to find out! What did we miss? Did we list some of your favorites? Hate our choices? Please leave a comment with your suggestions. Mount Rushmore of Movie Slobs
Slobs are everywhere. Movies, TV and certainly in our day to day lives. So we decided to celebrate them in this week's episode! We focused on slobs from the movie world, but may someday tackle our favorite slobs from TV.What makes a good slob? It could be their look, their clothes, their behavior or just their overall attitude. We choose slobs that each check some of those boxes. Some of them check ALL those boxes! We only matched on one slob and it was a pretty obvious one from one of our all time favorite movies. What did we miss? Did we list some of your favorites? Hate our choices?
