1. New details about the arrest of one of the Slender Man attackers. Morgan Geyser was arrested in Posen, Illinois last night, after investigators say she cut off her Department of Corrections monitoring bracelet and left the group home where she had been placed. Now police in Posen are revealing how they found Geyser and what she said when they did. Investigators say Posen officers were dispatched to a truck stop for a man and woman who were loitering behind the building. When officers arrived at the truck stop, they found Geyser and a man sleeping on the sidewalk. They say Geyser repeatedly refused to provide her real name and initially gave a false one. Eventually she said she didn’t want to tell officers who she was because she had “done something really bad.” Geyser suggested that officers “just Google” her name. Once she provided her true identity, officers confirmed the woman was indeed Geyser. She and the man were taken into custody without incident. 2. Public health experts have already warned of a worse-than-usual flu season this year and an unexpected influenza variant is raising new red flags. The virus acquired several genetic mutations after this year's seasonal flu vaccine was formulated...the mutations are genetically distinct from the vaccine's target strain which has already been developed. While the current flu vaccine may not be a perfect match, early data from the UK suggests it is still effective at preventing severe illness and hospitalization (around 70-75% effective in children and 30-40% in adults). Health experts strongly recommend vaccination as the best defense.
