Dopo lo straordinario successo di Qualcuno volò sul nido del cuculo sul palco del Teatro Bellini prende vita un’altra “storia cinematografica”, quella di Fronte del porto. Stavolta Alessandro Gassmann dirige Daniele Russo e altri 10 attori in una riscrittura in cui Enrico Ianniello fonde le suggestioni del testo originale con quelle dei poliziotteschi napoletani degli anni ‘80. Assistiamo a una storia ambientata nella Napoli di 40 anni fa che gioca, dal punto di vista formale, con le musiche dei film, con i colori sgargianti della moda, con i riferimenti culturali di quegli anni in cui, dice Ianniello, «la città stava cambiando pelle nella sua organizzazione criminale, gli anni del terremoto, gli anni di Cutolo. Anni in cui il porto era sempre di più al centro di interessi diversi, legali e illegali». Sulla scena la storia prende vita tra la baraccopoli di Calata Marinella, la Chiesa del Carmine, il molo Bausan, la Darsena Granili e l’avveniristica Casa del Portuale di Aldo Rossi. Uno spettacolo che sarà capace di restituirci la forza della storia, facendoci immedesimare nelle intense e rabbiose relazioni tra i personaggi che la popolano, raccontate con la cifra inconfondibile di Alessandro Gassmann, che sottolinea: «Come già avvenuto per Qualcuno volò sul nido del cuculo, anche in questo caso la scelta è caduta su un testo ed una tematica che mi coinvolgono profondamente e che portano verso una ricerca di libertà faticosa. Ricostruiremo la vita del porto, le vite degli operai, i loro aguzzini, attaccandoci ai suoni, ai rumori, ai profumi ed alla lingua di questa città.»
