ADHD Wild Women: Episode 9: Step One: I Acknowledge the Unconscious Myth I was Living

What if the story you were living wasn’t your own?

In this powerful opening step, the first of 12, Kat Wood begins the journey of mythic recovery for women with ADHD. Drawing from Jungian psychology, cultural criticism, and personal experience, she explores the unconscious myth so many of us carry: that we must reject our wildness in order to survive.

This episode unpacks the stigma surrounding ADHD, especially for women, and the societal narratives that shame difference. It traces how these myths become internalised, how they silence our soul-song, and what it means to begin the process of individuation — the process of reclaiming our wild, lost selves.

We journey through shadow work, the witch wound, and the symbolism of The Little Mermaid as a tale of self-abandonment and return.

If you've ever felt like you had to contort yourself to be acceptable, then this episode is for you.

ADHD Wild Women: Episode 8: Reclaiming The Sacred Fire

After a long hiatus, Kat Wood returns with a relaunch of ADHD Wild Women: a podcast at the intersection of soul, self, and neurodivergence. In this episode, Kat shares her ADHD diagnosis journey at 43, the grief and liberation that followed, and how a master's degree in Jungian psychology helped her begin to reframe ADHD not as a disorder to fix, but as a sacred fire to reclaim.

Kat introduces the soul path she’s charting for the next twelve months: a 12-step journey to reclaim the wild self and explore ADHD as a mythic process of individuation. This episode dives into shame, shadow, and masking, explores Jung's transcendent function, and calls for a holistic integration of mind, body, and spirit.

If you’ve ever felt misaligned, misunderstood, or burned out by the relentless pressure to “hack” your ADHD to increase your "productivity", this one’s for you. You’re not broken. You’re just wild. And your soul is calling you home.

ADHD Wild Women: Episode 7: The Heroine's Journey

After a period of several months of hiatus, ADHD Wild Women is back, with a new year/new journey. This episode delves into the importance of myth and archetype, the stories we tell about ourselves, and how this Jungian (mythic and folkloric focused) approach can be used consciously to heal the collective wound found in the unconscious of a burned out, disillusioned postmodern feminine psyche. Host Kat also looks at the way in which many woman have been drawn to pursue the individualism and competition found in the contemporary dominating male Hero's Journey, before putting forward a case that true freedom and the wild sacred way is more likely to be found in Maureen Murdock's counterpoint: The Heroine's Journey. The episode explores why these dominating myths can be particularly damaging to women with ADHD, and most importantly what we can do about it.

ADHD Wild Women: Episode 6: Anger and the Shadow

As women with ADHD we are often labelled too much or not enough because of wider societal values surrounding so called "traditional womanhood". Expressing emotion, especially anger, is socially forbidden because we are women. Yet, anger can be a powerful tool for transformation, as this episode explores, through Kat's own journey and personal relationship with anger.

ADHD Wild Women: Episode 1: The Women Who Run with the Wolves

ADHD Wild Women is a feminist podcast dedicated to celebrating the innate wild spirit inherent in women with ADHD, while also exploring the challenges of being neurodiverse in a neurotypical world, and examining the systemic patriarchal social structures which undermine who we are as women; one that constantly judges us either too much or not enough.

Episode One lays down something of a manifesto for the project, framed around Clarissa Pinkola Estes' groundbreaking book: Women Who Run with the Wolves and the archetype of the wild woman.

This first episode explores the following questions:

Why do women face additional barriers having ADHD compared to their male counterparts?

Why do we need to embrace our wild selves?

Singing over the bones: How do we carve a path to personal acceptance?
