This is NOT a podcast about cancer - it's about living well.  It’s a reminder to celebrate life and not to wait until a big diagnosis comes along to live your best life.

On this podcast we talk about healing, manifesting and living your best life. We cover all forms of wellness, natural health and nervous system regulation. We humans have the ability to lead magnificent, enriched and fulfilling lives of our dreams but we need to create a safe environment in our bodies for these manifestations to become reality

Many of our guests have gone through and survived some form of disease, adversity or near death experience and have used that wake up call to change for the better and create an incredible life of purpose. These stories are absolutely awe inspiring and will open you up to what is possible if you make some simple changes to your daily life.

We have incredible experts sharing their vast knowledge on all aspects of wellness, disease prevention, healing modalities, manifestation, spirituality and mental health optimisation.

Meet your host: Alex (La to her friends and family) After receiving a completely unexpected cancer diagnosis in 2017 my world caved in.  But my journey through treatment and recovery also forced me to recognise many uncomfortable truths about my life.  I’d neglected myself.  I’d pushed down trauma and become a world class people pleaser in order to feel safe.  Getting ill made me realise I had to stop sweating the small stuff and make lasting changes for the better.  Quite literally, cancer cured me from all that crap, and in its own strange way, proved to be the catalyst that’s led me to an infinitely happier life.

This podcast is my way of sharing all the learning so that YOU don't have to get cancer to realise just how great your life can be. Remember - YOU hold all the cards to achieve the life of your dreams.

Cancer Cured Me
The Profound Healing Power of Ayurveda - Dr Sam Watts Reveals the Truth

Can ancient wisdom support modern recovery? Dr. Sam Watts is a highly respected clinical practitioner of Ayurveda and holds a PhD in Cancer Survivorship. In this deeply insightful episode, he breaks down the fundamentals of Ayurveda, what it really is and how it serves as one of the most robust health systems for creating balance and preventing disease..

In this deeply grounding and empowering conversation, Dr Sam demystifies what Ayurveda really is – and why it may be one of the most robust, proven health systems for creating balance and preventing disease.

Rather than being complicated or restrictive, Dr Sam explains that Ayurveda is fundamentally simple, intuitive, and deeply individualised. At its core, it offers each of us a personal health manual – helping the body return to homeostasis and function as it was designed to.

We explore why many modern health trends fail, how Ayurveda differs from “one-size-fits-all” wellness advice and how small, sustainable changes can profoundly impact long-term health.

This episode is especially powerful if you’ve ever felt overwhelmed by health advice, confused by conflicting recommendations, or disconnected from your body’s signals.

In this episode, we cover:

  • Why Ayurveda is simple by design – and how it’s been over-complicated in the West
  • How Ayurveda works as a complete, preventative health system, not a diet or quick fix
  • The concept of individualisation – why what’s “healthy” depends on you
  • Understanding the three doshas (Vata, Pitta, Kapha) as your personal blueprint
  • Why symptoms like anxiety, inflammation, fatigue, or weight gain need different approaches in different people
  • The difference between prakriti (your natural state of balance) and vikriti (imbalance)
  • How daily stress quietly accumulates – and how Ayurveda helps you “wipe the dust away”
  • Why empowerment, autonomy, and self-awareness are central to true health
  • The importance of circadian rhythm, morning routines, and natural light
  • How simple practices like walking outside, self-massage, oil pulling, and breathwork support whole-body health
  • Why popular trends like fasting or cold exposure work for some people – and not for others
  • How Ayurveda aligns with modern science around homeostasis, nervous system regulation, and disease prevention

Key takeaway:

Ayurveda isn’t about being perfect or doing everything.

It’s about understanding your body, making small aligned choices, and creating the conditions for health to emerge naturally.

As Dr Sam shares, when you know what your body needs, health becomes something you actively participate in – not something that happens to you.

Cancer Cured Me
Change Your Morning, Change Your Life

Change your morning, change your life - DOWNLOAD FOR FREE HERE

Today’s episode of Cancer Cured Me is live on New Year's Eve 2025, but I’m not doing a year in review. I’m not recapping achievements, milestones or lessons learned.

Instead, I’m giving you a gift.

A gift that you can use on New Year’s Eve… or in February… or in the middle of a random Tuesday when you suddenly realise you’re tired of feeling stuck, overwhelmed or disconnected from yourself. This gift is about one thing:

Building rock-solid self-belief, gently, consistently and in a way your nervous system can actually trust.

Because here’s what I know to be true from my own healing journey.

Self-belief isn’t something you think your way into.

It’s something you train your system into.

Most of what runs our lives sits in the subconscious. Old stories. Old habits. Old emotional wiring from childhood, relationships, school, work or moments when we learned (often unconsciously) that we weren’t safe, capable or enough.

And no amount of willpower or affirmations alone can override that.

What does change it… is showing your system, again and again, that:

You do what you say you’ll do.

You show up for yourself.

You create safety, calm, and consistency inside your body.

That’s why I’ve created something simple, practical, and genuinely doable, a tiny morning practice that takes minutes, not hours, and builds the foundation for real, embodied self-belief.

Not a rigid routine.

Not a 5am bootcamp for your soul.

Not another thing to fail at.

Just small, intentional practices that:

  • Calm your nervous system
  • Set the emotional tone of your day
  • Create internal safety instead of fight-or-flight
  • Rewire your identity into someone who trusts and believes in themselves

And over time, that changes everything.

Because you deserve to live with a regulated nervous system.

You deserve to trust yourself.

You deserve to believe that change is possible for you not someday, not for other people, but for you.

This is a gentle, grounding solo episode designed to support you through the festive season whether Christmas feels joyful, overwhelming, emotional or quietly reflective this year.

Cancer Cured Me
A Simple Tool to Reset Your Nervous System This Christmas

If the festive season feels busy, intense, or a little overwhelming, this short final episode in our Calm Christmas mini-series, is a gift to your nervous system.

In this guided mini practice, Alex is joined again by nervous system strategist Georgie Shears, who shares one of her most accessible and powerful regulation tools a simple ear massage technique known as “thinking caps”.

This is a practice you can do anywhere, anytime at your desk, in the car, between meetings, or in the middle of Christmas chaos. And the magic? You’ll feel the shift in real time.

In just a few minutes, Georgie gently guides you through:

  • How to check your baseline nervous system state
  • Why busy periods naturally push us into fight or flight
  • How stimulating the vagus nerve sends immediate signals of safety to the body
  • Why small shifts — even 1% — matter deeply for long-term change

This practice helps your body move out of survival mode and back toward regulation, allowing you to enjoy the season rather than just get through it.

✨ You don’t need to fix yourself.

✨ Your body already knows how to settle.

✨ Sometimes it just needs a gentle cue of safety.

Cancer Cured Me
How to Avoid Holiday Hangovers and Hormone Chaos with Nutritionist Hannah Alderson

This week I’m joined for the second in our Calm Christmas mini series by nutritionist and hormone expert Hannah Alderson. We’re talking about one thing many of us feel at this time of year, the impact of festive food, alcohol and late nights on our hormones and energy.

If you’re feeling stretched, stressed, tired, hungover or just a bit overdone by the sparkly social calendar, you are not alone. This episode is packed with simple hormone-friendly Christmas tips that don’t involve restriction, guilt or saying no to the fun bits. No perfection, no “clean eating”, no punishing yourself for loving a Lindor ball. Just gentle support for your body when life gets busy.

In this episode with Hannah Alderson, we explore:

  • Why Christmas chaos can send our hormones and nervous system into meltdown
  • How alcohol affects hormone detoxification (and how to soften the blow)
  • Simple ways to support the liver without giving up cocktails, champagne or dessert
  • Why B vitamins and electrolytes might be your secret festive helpers
  • The power of fibre and cruciferous veg for hormone balance
  • How to avoid sugar spikes – while still enjoying the good stuff
  • What to eat before going out so you don’t wake up regretting everything
  • Why guilt and shame are worse for hormones than mince pies

Key Takeaways:

  • Christmas technically lasts 2 to 3 days… not 6 weeks. We don’t need to be “on a health kick” the whole time.
  • Look after your liver on your quieter days, especially if you’re drinking or sleeping less.
  • Enjoy your nights out guilt-free – connection boosts oxytocin and wellbeing.
  • Eat before you drink and add cruciferous veg (like Brussels sprouts, cabbage, broccoli) and flax seeds into your week.
  • Hydrate like your hormones depend on it… because they do.
  • If you’re eating the chocolates, have them after a meal, not on an empty stomach.
  • Skip the shame: stress and cortisol do far more damage than dessert ever could.

Foods & Supplements Mentioned:

(Always check what’s right for you, especially if you’re on medication.)

  • Cruciferous veg: broccoli, Brussels sprouts, cauliflower, cabbage
  • Flax seeds
  • Milk thistle (tincture or supplement)
  • B Vitamin complex (in the morning, after food)
  • Electrolytes (higher quality options, not just the fizzy high-street ones)

The Big Message

Enjoy the party. Eat the meal. Dance in your sparkly shoes.

Look after your liver on the quieter days, stay hydrated, and skip the guilt.

Joy, laughter and connection are some of the best medicines we’ve got.

ENCORE EPISODE: 7 SIMPLE WAYS TO PROTECT AND IMPROVE YOUR MENTAL HEALTH THIS WINTER

EXCITING NEWS: SUZY READING WILL BE ONE OF OUR WONDERFUL TEACHERS AT OUR NEXT LUXURY TRANSFORMATIONAL RETREAT AT WILDERNESS RESERVE, SUFFOLK @wildernessreserve FOR FULL INFORMATION AND TO BOOK CLICK HERE. JUST 6 ROOMS LEFT!

Do you want to know how to get through winter without it being so hard? Does your mental health suffer in winter? Do you suffer with SAD or just get those January blues and can’t wait for it to be summer again? Well, this is an episode that will solve all your winter problems.

In this conversation with Suzy Reading, we explore the importance of self-care during the winter months and how to embrace winter as a wonderful, nurturing season, not just a season to ‘get through’.

Talking around Suzy’s book, Self-Care for Winter, we discuss the concept of wintering through self-care, its significance for mental and emotional health, and introduce a framework of seven gentle steps to nurture oneself through the challenges of winter. The discussion emphasises the need for connection with nature and ‘awe hunting’, the importance of comforting rituals and community, as well as the value of reflection as a means to foster well-being during the colder, darker months. Suzy demonstrates some practical exercises that take just moments to do but will completely lift your day.

Suzy’s concept of ‘Gentle January’ is a balanced approach to post-holiday wellness that ensures you are looking after yourself during the winter months and investing in your future self whilst doing so.

Why Your Nervous System Holds the Secret to Feeling Safe and Calm

Just for our listeners, enjoy a free trial of Georgie's Nervous System Circle, REGULATE. Daily nervous system prompts and 365 days of support :Click here to join: REGULATE. Enter your free trial code: CANCERCUREDME at checkout (Full details below)

I absolutely love this conversation with nervous system strategist, Georgie Shears. Together we explore what it truly means to feel safe in your own body not conceptually, but physically. What is the elusive nervous system? What is nervous system regulation? Not only does Georgie answer these questions beautifully and more, she shares her honest, moving story of anxiety, panic attacks, postnatal depression and the pivotal moment during the pandemic that led her to discover the power of nervous system work. Her journey will resonate with anyone who has ever pushed through life on adrenaline, overridden their inner knowing or lived in a constant state of “what if”.

Across this conversation you’ll learn:

  • What the nervous system actually is beyond mindset, beyond theory
  • Why so many women live in survival mode without realising it
  • The difference between ventral vagal (safety), sympathetic (fight/flight), and dorsal vagal (freeze)
  • How your upbringing, past experiences and old protective patterns create your current responses
  • Why your body “borrows” energy from digestion, immunity and sleep when you’re stressed
  • How nervous system states influence people pleasing, burnout, procrastination and overthinking
  • Why traditional calming techniques don’t work when you’re too activated
  • The simple cues your body gives you when you’re shifting back into regulation
  • How reconnecting with your inner child restores safety and softens old survival tendencies

Georgie also generously walks us through two beautiful, accessible practices that you can use anytime you need to.

Cancer Cured Me
Why I Feel Crap But Show Up Anyway | A Vulnerable Solo Episode

IF YOU'RE NOT FEELING GREAT BUT PUT ON A BRAVE FACE NO MATTER WHAT, THIS FREE GUIDE IS FOR YOU... DOWNLOAD HERE YOU'LL FEEL SO MUCH BETTER IF YOU DO

In this deeply honest and unfiltered solo episode, I invite you behind the scenes of what it means to live authentically, even on the days that feel heavy.

Despite recently celebrating incredible highs from a joyful, soul-nourishing meetup with a new friend to seeing her story featured in a national newspaper. I woke up feeling low and out of sorts. Instead of pushing it away or pretending, I chose to record exactly as I was raw, real and human.

I open up about:

  • The pressure to “stay positive” when you’re a mentor or guide
  • How guilt and overthinking can spiral, especially as a parent
  • What Byron Katie’s wisdom taught me about questioning my thoughts
  • Why feeling your emotions (not fixing them) is sometimes the most healing act
  • The small grounding practices: breathwork, walking, gratitude, that help emotions move through the body

I remind us all that we’re not here to “just get through life,” but to live it fully,  the good days and the hard ones. My message is simple : even when it doesn’t feel like it, you’re okay. You’re human. And that’s enough

Cancer Cured Me
