Say Hello to My Little Film: Episode 224 - Gifted
The time has come for Ray to present his season finale recommendation on SAY HELLO TO MY LITTLE FILM! For this momentous occasion, Ray has chosen a movie that will tug on Rob’s heartstrings by hitting close to home, the 2017 family drama GIFTED. Directed by Marc Webb (500 DAYS OF SUMMER, THE AMAZING SPIDER MAN), GIFTED follows the story of Mary (Played by the amazing McKenna Grace), a seven-year-old math savant who is being raised by her Uncle Frank after her mother’s tragic suicide. When his estranged mother Evelyn, Mary’s Grandmother, learns of her gifts, she decides that Frank is unfit to be Mary’s guardian and seeks full custody of her. Buttressed by performances by Chris Evans (AVENGERS: ENDGAME, SNOWPIERCER), Jenny Slate (MARCEL THE SHELL WITH SHOES ON, OBVIOUS CHILD) and Octavia Spencer (FRUITVALE STATION, HIDDEN FIGURES), GIFTED examines the difficulties of growing up a genius, from the social-emotional hurdles to the question of what you owe the world with your gifts. Join Ray and Rob on this finale episode to see if the subject matter hits too close to home for Rob to enjoy, or if McKenna Grace’s magnetic performance is enough to steal his heart! A Copy of A Copy: Episode 108 - Wings of Desire/City of Angels
It’s finally time for the season finale of A COPY OF A COPY! In this episode, Ray and Rob dive into the world of foreign-language-to-English remakes by comparing Wim Wenders’ 1987 German arthouse classic WINGS OF DESIRE with its Hollywood counterpart, CITY OF ANGELS, starring Nicolas Cage (MOONSTRUCK, RAISING ARIZONA) and Meg Ryan (SLEEPLESS IN SEATTLE, FRENCH KISS). Both films follow an angel who, drawn to the pull of human life, falls in love with a woman and must decide whether to give up eternity for the challenges of being human. While WINGS OF DESIRE is set in Cold War-era Berlin, CITY OF ANGELS takes place in its namesake city of Los Angeles. Wender’s original is a darling of arthouse cinema and captures the complex emotions of a country in perpetual turmoil. CITY OF ANGELS attempts to capture the narrative roots of the original but adds that flare of Hollywood filmmaking in the attempts to reach a wider audience. Does it succeed? Or is Wender’s classic too much for it to handle? Tune in this week to find out! Say Hello to My Little Film: Episode 223 - The Apartment
The time has come for Rob’s final recommendation of the year on SAY HELLO TO MY LITTLE FILM, and he’s going out with his biggest swing yet by choosing one of his all-time favorites. To close things out, he’s presenting Ray with the 1960 romantic comedy THE APARTMENT! This Billy Wilder gem stars Jack Lemmon (SOME LIKE IT HOT, GRUMPY OLD MEN) as C.C. Baxter, an ambitious insurance clerk eager to climb the corporate ladder. To get ahead, he lets his bosses use his apartment for their extramarital affairs, much to his own inconvenience. Things take a turn when he falls for the charming and sought-after elevator operator Fran Kubelik, played with irresistible charm by Shirley MacLaine (TERMS OF ENDEARMENT, STEEL MAGNOLIAS). When Baxter discovers that his crush on Miss Kubelik is tangled up in his apartment troubles through his boss Jeff Sheldrake (Fred MacMurray), he’s faced with his most complicated dilemma yet, one that makes him question what he truly wants in life. Rob thinks he’s saved the best for last, but it’s Ray who will have the final say! Will the hype Rob has been building over the last few weeks for this pick ruin Ray’s viewing experience? Or will the undeniable chemistry of the performances and impeccable screenplay show him this is one of the greatest films ever made? Tune in this week to find out!

Hello Movies, My Old Friend: Episode 114 - Who's Harry Crumb?
On this month’s episode of HELLO MOVIES, MY OLD FRIEND, Ray and Rob were forced to call an audible when their original selection, ONLY THE LONELY is not currently available digitally in the US! Since they wanted to stay with a John Candy movie, they have decided to pivot to 1989 detective comedy WHO’S HARRY CRUMB? This send up of the cop drama, John Candy plays Harry Crumb, the last in a long line of famous private detective who is brought in when the daughter of a millionaire is kidnapped from a day spa. When it becomes clear that he was only hired for his ineptitude to cover up an inside job, Harry has to hone his natural familial talent in the art of detection to thwart multiple parties in a game of cat and mouse that twists and turns until its surprising conclusion. Critically panned at the time, but coming at a cultural high point for John Candy, WHO’S HARRY CRUMB? was a favorite of both Ray and Rob but has since fallen to the annuls of time.  Will the audible throw Ray and Rob for a loop and cast a dark cloud over this movie? Or will John Candy’s magnetic comedy prove this to be a forgotten classic? Say Hello to My Little Film: Episode 222 - Harakiri
As we near the end of our second season at CAR RAYROB, it’s time for Ray’s penultimate pick on SAY HELLO TO MY LITTLE FILM! This time, Ray takes Rob back to feudal Japan with Masaki Kobayashi’s 1962 classic HARAKIRI. The story follows former ronin Tsugumo Hanshiro (played by the late Tatsuya Nakadai), who arrives at the Iyi clan’s gate requesting to perform the sacred act of seppuku in their courtyard. Initially met with suspicion and a tale of another ronin’s similar request that ended gruesomely, his unwavering resolve eventually convinces them to allow it. What follows is a tense psychological duel that unravels a truth far darker than expected. A sharp critique of the feudal system and the myth of the samurai, HARAKIRI challenges viewers to rethink the very meaning of honor. Will this classic of Japanese cinema prove a worthy viewing for Rob? Or will the bleak outlook on feudal Japan leave him outside of the city walls? Tune in this week to find out! A Copy of A Copy: Episode 107 - The Wizard of Oz/The Wiz
As the year winds down at Car RayRob, there are just two episodes left of A COPY OF A COPY! For the penultimate episode, and in honor of the upcoming release of WICKED FOR GOOD, Ray and Rob dive into the 1939 classic THE WIZARD OF OZ and the 1978 Motown musical THE WIZ. The world of Oz has inspired many interpretations over the decades, with the Judy Garland original being the gold standard for Oz fans. However, the 70s musical made its mark by blending magical fantasy with the modern Black experience in America, creating a unique mirror image film that deserves its own recognition. Both films follow Dorothy Gale, portrayed as a young farm girl from Kansas in the original and as a mid-20s schoolteacher in The Wiz. After being transported to the magical land of Oz, Dorothy must journey with her newfound companions to meet The Wizard in hopes of finding her way back home. The Warner Bros classic features unforgettable performances by Ray Bolger, Bert Lahr, Jack Haley, and Margaret Hamilton, while the Motown musical shines with standout performances by Michael Jackson (his only feature film role), Nipsey Russell, Ted Ross, and the iconic Richard Pryor. Tune in with Ray and Rob as they delve into the themes of these films and explore how representation shaped this COPY OF A COPY! Say Hello to My Little Film: Episode 221 - McCabe & Mrs. Miller
Rob is down to his final two recommendations for the year on SAY HELLO TO MY LITTLE FILM! He’s wrapping things up with a one-two punch, starting with one of his favorite films by his favorite director, Robert Altman’s 1971 revisionist western MCCABE & MRS. MILLER! This New Hollywood twist on the classic genre stars Warren Beatty (DICK TRACY, BONNIE & CLYDE) as John McCabe, a wandering gambler who sets up a makeshift brothel in the small boomtown of Presbyterian Church. His business catches the eye of Constance Miller (played brilliantly by Julie Christie), a professional madame who pushes her way into a partnership that boosts the operation. But when the region’s largest mining company sets its sights on McCabe’s holdings and the town itself, his business skills are put to the ultimate test. This landmark of the New Hollywood era showcases Altman at his finest, working with top-tier actors and crafting sepia-toned, textured visuals with the legendary cinematographer Vilmos Zsigmond, cementing its place as a pinnacle of 70s cinema. Will MCCABE & MRS. MILLER be an easy win for Ray? Or will its reputation as an “anti-western” challenge his growing love for the genre? Find out this week! Hello Movies, My Old Friend: Episode 113 - Spawn
For October’s episode of HELLO MOVIES, MY OLD FRIEND Ray and Rob are revisiting one of the most infamous flops of the last 30 years, the 1997 Superhero film SPAWN! This adaptation of the Todd McFarlane comic series centers on Al Simmons (played by Micheal Jai White), a mercenary for hire who sells his allegiance to the devil after he dies in a double-cross on a mission in Asia. John Lequizamo (MOULIN ROUGE!, JOHN WICK) delivers a memorable performance as The Violator, a demon charged with recruiting Al, as well as set up the dominoes to bring on the war to end the world. With supporting performances by D.B Sweeney (THE CUTTING EDGE, EIGHT MEN OUT) and Golden Globe Winner Martin Sheen (THE DEPARTED, THE WEST WING) SPAWN was a film of the moment, and one that begs to be re-evaluated!  Will the aged effects and the lackluster adaptation prove to truly be a let down? Or will SPAWN show to be a diamond in the rough that deserves more respect? Say Hello to My Little Film: Episode 220 - Where Eagles Dare
In pure Ray fashion, he has decided to NOT choose a Halloween themed film for his episode of SAY HELLO TO MY LITTLE FILM. Instead, he has decided to take Rob back to the 1960s, with the war/spy thriller WHERE EAGLES DARE! Some might call this a Clint Eastwood film, but the day belongs to Richard Burton as Major John Smith, the leader of a group of highly trained British spies who are tasked to drop in behind Nazi lines to save Brigadier General George Carnaby, a chief planner for the Western front. But when members of the team start turning up dead, Major Smith and his American counterpart Morris Schaffer (Clint Eastwood) must power through to complete the mission and uncover a truth that shocks the viewer to their core! Anchored by an second half action sequence whose fingerprints can be seen on many a modern action film, WHERE EAGLES DARE marks a shift in the war genre as the studio system gave way to New Hollywood.  Will the diversion of the holiday theme throw Rob for a loop? Or will the twists and turns of this spy classic be enough to lure him in? A Copy of A Copy: Episode 106 - Nosferatu ('22/'79/'24)
The Halloween season zombie shuffles on here at CAR RAYROB! For this month’s spooky installment of A COPY OF A COPY, Ray and Rob has decided to bite off more than they can chew by doing their first ever A Copy of A Copy of A Copy by looking at three horror classics! The first is F.W. Murnau’s silent German horror classic NOSFERATU! To buttress this pop culture staple, they will be comparing it to two of its homage sequels, the 1979 NOSFERATU THE VAMPYRE directed by fellow German filmmaking giant Werner Herzog and 2024’s NOSFERATU directed by modern horror darling Robert Eggers! All three follow the journey of the young real estate agent Thomas Hutter (Jonathan Harker in Herzog’s film) as he travels to the Carpathian Mountains to meet with the elusive Count Orlok who is interested in purchasing a home in Hutter’s hometown of Wisburg and the fallout that consumes the city, as well as Thomas’s new wife Ellen (Lucy in Herzog’s film). However, each film brings its own flavor to the story and expands on different elements of the central story.  Loyal listeners know that horror is not Ray’s bag, so Rob has done the unthinkable by convincing him to watch three in a row! Join us to find out how these films stack up to one another and hear if Ray actually enjoyed the experience!  THEME SONG: Music and Lyrics: Jeremy Catarelli, Kevin Magamoll and Rob Morgan INTERMISSION: Music: Jey You Voice: Rob Morgan

Say Hello to My Little Film: Episode 219 - The Deeper You Dig
It’s the spooky season here at SAY HELLO TO MY LITTLE FILM! To kick things off, Rob has decided to push Ray into an arena he’s not entirely comfortable in with the 2019 horror, ghost story THE DEEPER YOU DIG! Written, directed and starring the horror genre sensations, The Adams Family (HELLBENDER, THE HATRED)!  THE DEEPER YOU DIG centers on Ivy and Echo (played by real life mother and daughter Toby Poser and Zelda Adams) who reside in rural upstate New York. Ivy is a tarot reader who has lost her sight and when Echo is tragically, and secretly, killed by their new neighbor, Kurt (John Adams), Ivy begins a quest to discover her daughter’s fate as Echo takes revenge on the guilt-ridden mind of her killer. This low budget gem is a representation of the crafty storytelling genius of this resourceful family and a perfect entry point for Ray into the twisted world!  Will Ray’s reticence towards the horror genre prevent him from appreciating the what the Adam’s Family was able to accomplish? Or will their uncanny ability to craft atmosphere lure him into their mesmerizing spell? Tune in this week to find out! Say Hello to My Little Film: Kid's Special! - Dumb and Dumber (Feat. Mr Kitty Kaiju)
As we roll into Fall, we once again find ourselves with a five Monday month, which means it’s time for a special Kid’s Edition of SAY HELLO TO MY LITTLE FILM! Mr. Kitty Kaiju is back as Ray and Rob recommend one of their all-time favorite comedies from their childhood, the 1994 comedy classic DUMB AND DUMBER! This rite of passage film stars Jim Carrey (THE MASK, ACE VENTURA: PET DETECTIVE) and Jeff Daniels (SPEED, THE NEWSROOM) as Lloyd and Harry, two down on their luck losers who accidentally take possession of a briefcase full of ransom money for a rich socialite’s (played by Lauren Holly) husband. When they decide to cross the country in an attempt to return it, they find themselves in an ever-escalating endurance test of stupidity in the hopes of finally finding the life they so desperately want but are too stupid to find. With supporting performances by Charles Rocket and the late Teri Garr, Dumb and Dumber helped cement The Farrelly Brothers as comedy staples and ushered in one of the most quotable films to ever exist.  Will the instantly recognizable pop culture comedy of Dumb and Dumber capture Mr Kitty Kaiju’s heart the way it did his Dad? Or will the generational divide keep him from fully enjoying this classic? Hello Movies, My Old Friend: Episode 112 - Toy Soldiers
September is going fast, so it’s time for a new episode of HELLO MOVIES, MY OLD FRIEND! For today’s episode, Ray and Rob revisit the 1991 action thriller TOY SOLDIERS! This coming-of-age classic stars the great Sean Astin (LORD OF THE RINGS TRILOGY, THE GOONIES) and Wil Wheaton (STAND BY ME, STAR TREK: TNG). TOY SOLDIERS follows a group of rejects at a prestigious private school who must save their school from a band of terrorists who seek to force the release of their leader’s father from an American prison. With a stellar supporting cast that includes Keith Coogan (ADVENTURES IN BABYSITTING, DON’T TELL MOM THE BABYSITTER’S DEAD) and Louis Gossett Jr (ENEMY MINE, THE COLOR PURPLE), TOY SOLDIERS explores the idea of brotherhood and the lengths you’ll go to protect them.  Will the chemistry of the ensemble still hold up after all these years? Or will the thin narrative elements let them down? Tune in this week to find out!    Theme Song: Music: Jay You Voice: Rob Morgan Intermission: Voice: Jeremy Catarelli Music: Jay You

Say Hello to My Little Film: Episode 218 - The Big Sick
For Ray’s September Episode of SAY HELLO TO MY LITTLE FILM, he’s trying to break up his streak of heavy subject matters by recommending the 2017 comedy THE BIG SICK. It centers on Kumail, a struggling comedian who is caught in the maelstrom of the Pakistani tradition of arranged marriage by his overbearing family. When he meets Emily, an American woman, she steals his heart but puts him in a very precarious familial situation, one that threatens to end his relationship with Emily for good. When a mysterious illness puts Emily in a coma, Kumail must decide what is truly important to him and how he wants to ultimately live his life. With stellar supporing performances by Holly Hunter (RAISING ARIZONA, HOME FOR THE HOLIDAYS), Ray Romano (EVERYBODY LOVES RAYMOND) and Zoe Kazan (RUBY SPARKS, WHAT IF) and based on the semi-autobiographical tale of actor/comedian Kumail Nanjiani and his real-life wife Emily, THE BIG SICK is a singular romantic comedy cut from its own cloth.  Will this ray of funny sunshine melt Rob’s heart? Or will the chances it takes to subvert the rom-com structure leave him feeling blue? Say Hello to My Little Film: Episode 217 - Five Easy Pieces
CarRayRob is kicking off the month of September with a brand-new episode of SAY HELLO TO MY LITTLE FILM! It’s Rob’s pick and he’s bringing another one of his personal favorites, the 1970 drama FIVE EASY PIECES! Accompanied on his journey by his eccentric girlfriend Rayette (played by the powerhouse of 70s cinema Karen Black), Bobby searches for who he is and what he truly wants from life. Say Hello to My Little Film: Episode 216 - The Stanford Prison Experiment
For Ray’s September SAY HELLO TO MY LITTLE FILM selection, he has decided to do a sequel, not of a film he’s already shown but of a conversation he and Rob began last month with THE LORD OF THE FLIES. To fulfill this, he has chosen the 2015 drama THE STANFORD PRISON EXPERIMENT. This tale of a real-life experiment conducted on the Standford University campus in 1971 centers on a group of students who agree to participate by being divided into prisoners and guards to see how each side would react. As with LORD OF THE FLIES, the darker sides of humanity bubble to the surface as the effects of power lead to torment for the unfortunate students relegated to be prisoners. Featuring stellar performances by Billy Crudup (WATCHMAN, BIG FISH, ALMOST FAMOUS), Tye Sharidan (MUD, READY PLAYER ONE), Ezra Miller (WE NEED TO TALK ABOUT KEVIN, THE FLASH) and many others, THE STANFORD PRISON EXPERIMENT is a chilling study of people and the abuse of power that possibly lays dormant within us all.  Will the similar themes of Ray’s previous recommendation once again leave Rob cold? Or will the stellar cast and true-life events draw him in an keep him prisoner? A Copy of A Copy: Episode 104 - Aladdin (1992/2019)
It’s fair to say that for Ray and Rob, the 1990s were the golden age of Disney animation. The run of hits holds a special nostalgic place in both of their hearts. At the top of that mountain sits ALADDIN, the story the young street urchin who with the help of magical genie, wins the heart of the princess Jasmine and defeats the evil Jafar. Over the last decade, Disney has seen fit to once again repackage these classics in live action versions in an attempt to bank on that nostalgia and line their pockets in the process. Because of this phenomenon, Ray and Rob decided to look at the original ALADDIN and it’s 2019 counterpart to decide, is this really just a cash grab? Or is there more than meets the eye? Join Ray and Rob as they breakdown both of these Disney films and take a look at the trend overall! Will the original stand supreme? Say Hello to My Little Films: Episode 215 - Barton Fink
Rob is kicking off August’s SAY HELLO TO MY LITTLE FILM by recommending a film to Ray that holds a special place in his heart, the 1991 Coen Brothers classic BARTON FINK! Starring John Turturro (THE BIG LEBOWSKI, O’ BROTHER WHERE ART THOU?) and John Goodman (RAISING ARIZONA, THE BIG LEBOWSKI), BARTON FINK centers on a rising star playwright of the same name as he takes a job in 1940s Hollywood to pen a wrestling picture for a mid-level studio. After relocating to a crumbling hotel with distracting neighbors and peeling wallpaper, Barton finds himself with a debilitating case of writer’s block. As he tries desperately to overcome it, he encounters a cadre of zany characters that only seem to add to his predicament. BARTON FINK comes from the early period of the Coen’s filmography (pre iconic films like FARGO and THE BIG LEBOWSKI), it is an often overlooked classic written by writers who either love writers or hates them! (You decide!)  Will the early style of Coen’s not ring as true with Ray as their later more well known films? Or will Barton’s journey of creative discovery lure Ray into it’s hypnotic allure?
