It’s Neil Breen time again on Collateral Cinema, as we explore the most recently released fruit of the Breenius—Cade: The Tortured Crossing! The standalone sequel to Twisted Pair, this film follows twins Cade and Cale in a Seven Samurai-esque plot set in an abandoned mental hospital. There’s an absolutely kino tiger fight scene, too, as well as Neil Breen using Shadow Clones, and plenty of Breen Screen and stock footage. If that doesn’t hook you, I don’t know what will. It’s that time again on Collateral Cinema; we are diving into yet another Halloween movie featuring everyone’s favorite Haddonfield serial killer for the titular holiday. This year, it’s the finale of the so-called ”Cult of Thorn Trilogy”—Halloween: The Curse of Michael Myers! The sixth installment of the franchise is the first filmed and set in the 90s, and boy does it show. This entry was panned by audiences and considered by many to be one of the worst Halloween sequels ever, but is it at least more entertaining than the borefest that was part 5 (which we covered last season)? This cult movie may be one of the goriest in cinema, and also one of the most batshit splatter films from the filmmaker that would go on to direct the Lord of the Rings trilogy, so it’s the perfect way to start the spooky season! Martin Crocker’s death (we actually recorded this on the day), we thought it was appropriate to cover this iconic adult animated series/late night talk show parody that kicked off what would become Adult Swim (and arguably Cartoon Network as we know it), with its surrealist, non-sequitur humor that influenced so many of us growing up. On our latest #Miikeversary Special, we are joined by returning guest Jason from Dads from the Crypt, as we talk about one of Takashi Miike’s earlier works: Fudoh: The New Generation. Originally intended as a direct-to-video adaptation of an unfinished manga series, the producers of Fudoh were so impressed by the film that they insisted it premiere in theaters in 1996, and it’s easy to see why with Miike’s penchant for Yakuza stories, as well as his talent for cinematography and adapting wacky, edgy plots so far out they could only come from a manga. Collateral Cinema is back with yet another At the Movies review; within a week of the debut of the DCU with Superman, we also got the latest MCU installment: The Fantastic Four: First Steps! On this momentous occasion, Derik from Ratchet Book Club and A Seat at the Spades Table joins Beau and Ashley as a first-time watcher of the 2003 independent film often called ”the Citizen Kane of bad movies”. It would be a massive understatement to call Wiseau’s magnum opus The Room important to Collateral Cinema; it’s practically the reason we started podcasting together in the first place! We took the opportunity to hear Derik’s fresh take moments after the experience and share our thoughts on why this film is not only so important to us, but to cinema and pop culture as a whole.
