Why are we reading the Regius Manuscript now, if it is the oldest known Masonic manuscript?
Why didn't we read it first and then move on from there?
What does it say?
Where did it come from?
Who wrote it?
How do we know that it pertains to Freemasonry?
Have you ever read this manuscript, let alone known that it existed?
Let us read what it says and then have a discussion about it.
The Ars Quatour Coronati has a page dedicated to the Constitutions of the Freemasons @https://www.1723constitutions.com
It covers many areas of this important document and even goes in depth with some of the important masons who helped create Anderson's Constitutions.
It's not a long article, and after reading it, one gets the impression that there isn't much of importance for us here.
What does the Curmudgeon have to say about this?

In part two of the Catholic Encyclopedia article of 1910 on (Masonry)Freemasonry, the Curmudgeon Supreme and I will finish up what we wanted to read.
The article is 32 pages long and is well written, and cites its source documentation from the time.
They made it very clear from the beginning that they would only cite the best and most respected Masonic Scholars and authors.
Will it shine any more light on its origins, secrets, and symbols?
Let's find out.

What does an article published in 1910 in the Catholic Encyclopedia about (Masonry)Freemasonry have to say about the mysterious origins of Freemasonry?
The Curmudgeon Supreme read this article and was surprised as to the amount of information it contained and the other secret societies it mentions.
In 171 7 four or more older lodges got together and decided to form a Grand Lodge of England. 21 years later, the Catholic church issued a Papal Bull prohibiting any catholic from ever becoming a Mason due to irreconcilable differences.
What did those Catholic Brothers discover in the 21 years of research that was done before the Pope issued his Bull?
What does this article say about the mysterious origins of Freemasonry?
Why did the church react so negatively towards this society?

I've been contemplating some questions that have been bouncing around in my head lately.
MasonicCon is back at South Pasadena Lodge No.290
How many of you have read the ancient Masonic documents/
What impressions did they make?
Has it made you wonder what Freemasonry truly is?
What is Freemasonry?
The numbers don't lie!
Is the Curmudgeon correct with his numbers?
In this episode, I go over a list of 12 Origin Theories of Freemasonry and ask the Curmudgeon Supreme how much he knows about any of these theories. This list was found in a book called the Royal Masonic Cyclopedia.
Has he ever heard of any of these?
Does he have a favorite?
Will any of these pique his curiosity?
Will his giant head blow up from too many theories?
What are these twelve theories, and do any of these have any merit?

I go solo and discuss the Summer Solstice, the Feast of St. John the Baptist, health, aging, the cycles of Freemasonry, and Roxy the English Bulldog. She's a fatty.
What is your lodge doing to celebrate the Holy Saints John the Baptist Day?
How are you staying in tune with the Masonic Cycles of the year?
Why should a lodge celebrate this day?
Why is Roxy so fat even though she is just a baby?
All these topics and more will be discussed.

In our last episode, we read the Cook Manuscript of 1450.
In this episode, The Curmudgeon Supreme and I share our observations on the Cook Manuscript of 1450.
Why does it seem like this masonic manuscript is far more interesting than Anderson's 1723 Constitutions of the Free-Masons?
Why are the Liberal Arts and Sciences taking such a prominent role in a document held by illiterate stone masons?
Where did these stone masons get all of these stories?
When was the original manuscript written/
Who wrote it?
And why is the Curmudgeon breathing so hard into the mic.....Again?
These are all mysteries we must unravel.
Let's continue to explore this together.
Doctor Anderson drew from many sources to enable him to revise the older Gothic Masonic Constitutions. He never names them, so we don't know how many of these older documents he had available.
Did Anderson use the Cook Manuscript of 1450? Let's see what Google search says about this:
"Doctor Anderson Cooke Manuscript Use
There is no direct evidence that Doctor Anderson used the Cooke Manuscript of 1450. However, the Cooke Manuscript was used by Anderson in his own version of the "Constitutions" published in 1723, specifically lines 901-960 of the manuscript.5
The Cooke Manuscript, also known as the Matthew Cooke Manuscript (British Museum: “Additional M.S. 23,198”), was written around 1450 and was in the possession of Mr. George Payne when he compiled the "General Regulations" during his second term as Grand Master in 1720.5 Anderson included these regulations in his version of the "Constitutions" published in 1723.5
Therefore, while Doctor Anderson did not directly use the Cooke Manuscript, he incorporated parts of it into his work."
What will we learn?
Why was this manuscript dated to about 1450?
Where did they write this document?
Will it have the Legend of the Craft?
Why does the Curmudgeon Supreme keep breathing so heavily into the mic, and why does he not mute it?
We will get into all of these questions and more.

We finish up Brother David Stevenson's article, "James Anderson, Man & Masons".
What can we learn about the man who helped to bring the Constitutions of the Freemasons to the public's attention?
Did it have the impact he was hoping for/
Was it meant for the public or someone else?
Why did it not receive the fanfare that maybe he was hoping for? Or did he even care?
We have to keep digging.
We continue to read the article, James Anderson, Man & Mason. This article is found in the Scottish Rite Journal, Heredom, Volume 10, 2002, written by Brother David Stevenson.
The Grand Lodge of England is trying to establish legitimacy by appointing a person of royal bloodline as its Grand Master of the Order.
What will happen? Will it be a smooth ride? Will everyone agree?
Let's find out.

There was more going on in the back ground to the creation of the 1723 Constitutions of the Free-Masons. The political and religious environment of the time was tense, and made it even more difficult to write something that would not create too much controversy.
But who was the man, the mason, and why was he called to help put this document together?
Was James Anderson a Mason before all of this?
Was he a Scottish Mason and had intricate knowledge of the Craft?
If you haven't bought your copy of Anderson's Constitutions, read it and then tell us what you got out of it, and if you wish to come on the show to discuss your thoughts and observations.

The Curmudgeon Supreme and I read David Stevenson's article "James Anderson: Man & Mason" about James Anderson, one of the masons who helped assemble the Constitutions of the Free-Masons of 1723.
This article was first published in the Heredom Volume 10, 2002, a research journal put out by the Scottish Rite.
For many years, Doctor James Anderson has been accused of many negative reasons for helping to put together what we now know as the Constitutions of the Free-Masons of 1723 & 1738.
There is a lot that was going on during that time in and around England. England, Scotland, and Ireland were all fighting against each other, so why did these London Masons choose a short, red-headed Scotsman to help put together one of the most important Masonic documents ever published?
The origins of this mysterious Masonic document have been actively researched and analyzed, critiqued, and ignored since it first appeared in 1723, and we still do not fully understand why it was produced in the first place.
Brother David Stevenson is the author of both "The Origins of Freemasonry, Scotland's Century 1590-1710" and "The First Freemasons - Scotland's Early Lodges and Their Members 1988.
Let us keep exploring the mysterious origins of Masonry and Freemasonry with ruthless abandon.

Write me at masonicmsucle357@gmail.com if you have questions or suggestions for research on the enigmatic and mysterious origins of freemasonry.
In 1924, Bro. Lionel Vibert, Past Master Quator Coronati Lodge No. 2076, England, the premier masonic research lodge, wrote a review of his findings concerning Anderson's Constitutions of 1723.
The article was for a series of books called the "Little Masonic Library," published by the Masonic Service Association of the United States.
It is a great introduction and gives us a bird's eye view of the Masons' understanding of this document in 1924.
There have been many discoveries since then, but how much has our concept changed?
What did Bro. Vibert have to say about the Constriction's and Brother Anderson?

Reading Anderson's Constitutions of 1723 is one thing; reading and studying in a group is another.
What can we learn when we continuously study a subject like the Constitutions of the Free-Masons and then hold discussions about what our studies and contemplations have revealed or not?
Brother Jesus and I have another conversation where he shares his thoughts and observations about Anderson's Constitutions and what they could mean.
We discuss the scribes of ancient Egypt and how this type of education was for a select few, even though they may not have been of royal blood.
He also shares some of his experiences with his very own initiation.

The General Regulations of Masonry provide more rules regarding the powers of lodges, their members, and the leaders that the members have elected.
How many of these do you recognize?
How many of these did you know about?
Did you know how power and responsibility you had as a member and as a lodge?
Let us contemplate after lifting heavy weights!
We bring you more light, but no light weights!
If Masonry is a progressive science, then why are we not progressing?
The Charges of the Free-Masons are something that most lodges never review together. Why are these charges so important to all Masons, and why should we care?
