This is the podcast for the Australian Historic Road and Racing community covering grass roots events and racing!
There is a thriving community of owners of classic and historic vehicles - including veteran and vintage cars. There is also a strong racing community through various clubs and associations. This podcast will showcase and highlight the amazing people, vehicles and events in Australia.
I'm Stephen Wells, I've been involved in this community for decades (!) through clubs in Australia and the UK. I am an alumni of the Jim Russell Racing Drivers School at Snetterton Circuit in the UK and have organised major events and club runs over the years including being President or Vice President of many.
Motoring Weekly has been delivering content since 2008 either as a podcast or long-form articles. It took a hiatus in 2020 and is now back to support a great community.

Episode 188 Taylor Gill, Junior World Rally Championship Runner-Up
Although this podcast typically focuses on historic road and race cars, we sometimes look to the future - and this is one of those times!
In December I met with Taylor Gill, a young Australian rally driver who missed last year’s Junior World Rally Championship by a minuscule 1.6 seconds.
This interview with Taylor talks about his fast rise to the World Rally series and his plans for 2026. I encourage every listener to get behind Taylor to help him become Australia’s first World Rally Champion!

Episode 175 AMHF - Colin Piper.
In continuing our spotlight on the Australian Motor Heritage Foundation, I talk with Colin Piper about his work in curating the Brian Lear Collection.
Colin Piper has been a motorsport enthusiast all his life. An accomplished musician who played with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra, Colin's first taste of racing was at the old Warwick Farm circuit and did some Formula Vee racing in the day. Colin is also a member of the HSRCA and enjoys their race meetings.
Brian Lear, who created the collection over many decades, was well known in hillclimb and historic racing circles racing Elfins and Coopers. He donated his collection several years ago and in this podcast we find out how far Colin has got in working through 47 folders of media events. Brian's passion was to find all the newspaper articles of events - going back as far as 1905!

Episode 172 Royal Flying Doctor Service - Outback Car Trekkers: Matt Vicchi and Josh Graham.
I spoke with Matt Vicchi and Josh Graham, part of Team 3333, who have entered many of the Outback Car Treks in specially prepared cars. We talk about why they became "trekkers" and the experiences of driving to remote communities across Australia. We also cover the configuration and build preparations to make a car suitable for such a rugged event with some fun elements added as well! These guys have been to places that most of us simply dream about.
For both of them, it has become a family event with several generations involved in the Outback Trek whether it is driving/navigating or building the vehicles.

Episode 171 Geoffrey Bott - Classic Rally Pioneer.
I caught up via Zoom with Geoffrey Bott, a pioneer in classic car rally events. He was the instigator behind the Repco Mountain Rally in the 90s, working closely with the Jaguar Drivers Club to run the events as Clerk of the Course before becoming a competitor - and winner - himself. Geoffrey has had decades of experience in organising and competing in classic car rallies.
We talk about the Repco Mountain Rally, his love of Jaguars and also a rare Hunter Coupe some years ago. As Geoffrey was also a founding member of the Classic Rally Club, we also talk about that club and the events that are organised across the Eastern Seaboard of Australia.
