How Mayor Allan Branch Is Rebuilding the Spirit of Panama City
This week, I’m sitting down with someone whose life and leadership reflect one simple truth: the most meaningful relationships are the ones that see more in you than you see in yourself. Mayor Allan Branch is a walking example of that. Whether he’s building businesses, shaping downtown Panama City, or simply serving neighbors one small act at a time, Allan brings a spirit of intention, creativity, and heart into everything he touches.
In this episode, we talk about growing up in a tight-knit family, learning to see potential in unexpected places, and why community leadership begins with paying attention to people. Allan shares how art, software, and public service all fit into his creative brain, and how the kindness he received growing up fuels the way he leads today. This conversation is a reminder that the soul of a city is built by people who care enough to imagine something better and work toward it every day.

When Looking Back Helps You Move Forward
Sometimes I say, “Don’t look in the rearview mirror. That’s not where you’re going.” But today I’m sharing why looking back can be holy work. When we glance over our shoulder with an open heart, we remember just how far God has brought us and how much He can still do when we keep our hands open and ready to receive. In this episode, I talk about the seasons that shaped me: the years of working three jobs, the embarrassment I carried, the kindness that kept my lights on, and the moments when God used people to love me back to life. And now, standing in this beautiful building and walking in blessings I once prayed for, I’m reminded why gratitude is the fuel that moves us forward. If you’re in a hard season, I hope my stories remind you that you’ve made it through every hard day so far and you’ll make it through this one too. Look back only long enough to say, “Thank You,” then let faith lead you on.

Episode Highlights:
[00:00] Welcoming our newest sponsor: Buffalo Rock Pepsi
[01:00] Why looking back can deepen gratitude
[02:00] Letting go, letting God, and speaking to Impact 100
[03:00] Learning to trust your voice even when fear shows up
[04:00] Humbling jobs, old uniforms, and the embarrassment that shaped me
[05:00] The moment I couldn’t afford power and prayed for a way forward
[06:00] When community loved me through my hardest Christmas
[07:00] Walking into blessings I once begged God for
[08:00] Keeping your hands open so God can fill them
[09:00] Reframing lack with “It’s not in my budget”
[10:00] Using the past as proof that you can survive anything
[11:00] Protecting your peace from negativity
[12:00] Letting your story become someone else’s hope

My Happy Ass Life
From Fear To Faith With A Pen

Every once in a while, life hands us a moment that stops us right in our tracks. This encore episode captures one of those moments for me. When I found out my carotid arteries were blocked, fear moved in fast but so did God’s grace. And the very thing that helped me move from panic back into peace was something I’ve leaned on for years: writing it down.

I share how putting my prayers, gratitudes, fears, and hopes on paper has become the cheapest and most powerful medicine in my life. When I give those thoughts a place to land, they stop taking up so much space in my heart. That’s when God can come in with clarity and calm. I talk about how COVID changed the way I see my health, the shifts I’m making now, and why taking care of ourselves is one of the most loving things we can do.

If you’ve ever been scared of a diagnosis, overwhelmed by your thoughts, or unsure where to turn  I want you to feel held and safe in this moment. You are not alone, and there is so much hope waiting for you.
Episode Highlights:
[00:00] A sweet encounter in the checkout line that reminded me how connected we all are
[01:00] The honest reality of keeping Happy Ass Life going and wanting to sustain the mission
[01:45] The health news that shook me awake
[02:30] How COVID shifted my attention to my body in a whole new way
[03:00] Hearing the words “blocked carotid arteries” and letting myself feel it
[03:45] Why avoiding checkups is one of the biggest ways we cheat ourselves
[04:15] How journaling, affirmations, and daily writing keep me grounded
[04:45] Today’s affirmation: “Ink is the cheapest of medicines.”
[05:00] How writing helps me release fear and invite in God’s healing grace
[05:45] My belief that I’m equipped to help the person I used to be
[06:30] Words of encouragement for anyone afraid or overwhelmed
[07:00] My journey into non-toxic living and supporting my heart health
[08:00] The small steps I’m taking moving forward
[08:30] An open invitation for listeners to share their own stories and wisdom

Leave A Soul Print!
This morning, as I ran beneath the glow of the full moon, I couldn’t help but think about my late husband, Hugh Smith, and the lasting imprint he left on my heart and the lives of so many others. Hugh lived his life with intention. He was serving, loving, and growing closer to God every single day. Even in his final years, he began each morning on his knees, praying, “Hey Dad…show me how to do Your will.”Today I’m sharing how Hugh’s legacy of recovery, faith, and kindness continues to shape me. When I think about the way he loved without judgment, his example reminds us all to live with grace and to leave a soul print everywhere we go. My Happy Ass Life
Timing Can Be Everything
This week, I open up about the moments in life that nearly broke me—and the unexpected ways God and community showed up to remind me I wasn’t alone. From running (or my version of it!) with a heart full of gratitude, to remembering the days when I had no power, no water, and no money, I share the sobering truth that resilience is often born in the hardest places. You’ll hear a story I’ve never shared publicly, about a season of pain and seizures so severe that I nearly gave up until a letter showed up at just the right time. I talk about the angels God sent to help me, the kindness of friends and strangers who kept my family afloat, and why moving our bodies and moving toward hope go hand in hand.If you are in a dark place right now, please know this: there is hope for you. And if you’re standing in the light, be that hope for someone else.

Episode Highlights:
[01:20] A sobering reminder while helping someone in need
[04:15] Praise at the pump and gratitude for health
[07:45] The healing power of moving your body
[12:30] Seizures, pain, and the moment I almost gave up
[18:15] God’s timing and a letter that saved my life
[24:00] Stories of community showing up in big ways
[29:00] Choosing to be hope and light for others

My Happy Ass Life
Transformation Is Rarely Fun
As I prepared for my upcoming TED Talk, I realized the message I couldn’t shake was resilience. Not the easy kind we talk about in hindsight, but the real, raw kind that comes when life shatters your plans and leaves you with no choice but to dig deep.I open my heart about divorce, infidelity, financial struggle, and the mistakes I made along the way. I also share how faith, prayer, and the kindness of others carried me when I thought I couldn’t make it! Through every heartbreak and setback, I’ve learned that resilience is fully about trusting God to turn even the hardest seasons into a foundation for growth, strength, and compassion. I hope that this story reminds you that no matter what you’re facing, you are stronger than you think, and your next chapter can be more beautiful than you ever imagined.

Episode Highlights:
[01:30] Preparing for a TED Talk and shifting the topic to resilience
[03:15] Childhood lessons in faith and early resilience
[05:00] Divorce, infidelity, and why it felt harder than death
[09:00] Mistakes I made during divorce and what I wish I’d done differently
[17:30] The importance of self-care and recognizing red flags
[20:00] Resilience as a muscle built in adversity
[22:15] Learning forgiveness, finding strength, and starting anew with Hugh

Choosing Soundtracks That Push Me Forward
This one was totally unplanned and straight from my heart. Since we’re more than halfway through the year, I pulled out my New Year's affirmation, “My Wild, Precious Life,” and graded myself. What’s working. What isn’t? And where I’m still growing. I also drew two cards from Jon Acuff’s Soundtracks deck, because fear comes free but hope takes work. You’ll hear how I’m setting better boundaries, showing up scared on stage, tending my health with intention, and choosing thoughts that move me forward.

Episode Highlights:
[00:39] Mid-year reflection and the importance of this episode
[01:00] Shoutout to sponsors: Amore Boutique and Salon
[02:08] Plan for the episode: self-assessment and affirmation review

[07:37] Eating healthy whole foods and working with a fitness coach
[08:51] Attuning to God's calling and personal mission
[10:30] New sponsor: The Grocery, Kitchen and Tap Room
[11:28] Self-assessment: saying no to unimportant things
[12:13] Loving life despite challenges, gratitude after brain surgery
[13:21] Fitness journey and the impact of health challenges

Try Having Shorter Pity Parties
This surprise Pop-Up is a reminder that life is too short for long pity parties. I open up about being sick, what my battle with COVID taught me about truly caring for my body, and why it’s so important to keep our soundtracks positive and life-giving.

You’ll hear me reflect on Jon Acuff’s wisdom from All It Takes Is a Goal and Soundtracks, and how I’ve learned to shorten my pity parties, shift my mindset, and show up with more humility and compassion for others. I also share from Bob Goff’s "Dream Big" and the ways God has used hard seasons to shape me into a more peaceful and less judgmental version of myself.

I also ask for prayers and support for my dear friends Beth and Ryan Mulvey. Ryan is fighting for his life right now, and Beth is fighting insurance battles just to get him the care he needs. Ryan is beloved in the golf community, on ESPN Radio, and by so many who know his kind heart. Instead of a pity party, let’s have a prayer party for Ryan and send faith, love, and encouragement his way. If you’re able, consider supporting them with meals, gift cards, or simply holding them in your thoughts and prayers.

Episode Highlights:
[01:15] Personal Health Struggles and Reflections
[03:42] The Power of Positive Thinking
[04:14] Shortening Pity Parties
[08:04] Supporting Others in Need
[09:36] Personal Growth and Humility
