51. I Support Meds for Everyone (Except Apparently… Me?)

This week’s episode is for anyone who’s ever said, “I 100% support meds for mental health,” while simultaneously whispering “...but like not for me, obviously.”

Yep. That’s been me.The supportive friend. The advocate. The one who’ll help you find a psychiatrist and talk through your dosage, while quietly raw-dogging my own anxiety and insomnia for years because I’m fine. (Spoiler: I was not fine.)

In this one, I’m opening up about what finally pushed me to try SSRIs, how the first few weeks on Lexapro are going (side eyes + soft optimism), and the weird guilt spiral that comes from needing the exact thing you’ve always told everyone else is totally valid.

We’re talking:

  • 🤸‍♀️The mental gymnastics of “I support meds, but…”

  • 😔 Internalized shame (even when you “know better”)

  • ⚖️ What’s shifted since starting

  • ⏰ Why it took me this long (hi, perfectionism and people-pleasing)

  • It’s raw, it’s real, and it’s for anyone who’s been silently struggling but also too stubborn to accept help. We’re unpacking it together, one slightly-medicated step at a time.

    50. Your Timeline Doesn't Have A Deadline

If you’ve ever found yourself spiralling on a Tuesday because someone you barely know just got married and posted a humblebrag about hitting six figures by 29, this one’s for you.

In this episode, I’m talking about the myth of “being behind” — that sneaky little narrative that says you’re late to some imaginary party where everyone else has their dream job, soulmate, and salary figured out while you’re still Googling “how to feel okay about doing nothing.”

    We unpack:

  • + The fake life checklist society handed you without your consent

  • + Why nobody’s timeline looks the same (and that’s not a glitch, it’s the point)

  • + Small ways to stop comparing your life to a Pinterest board

  • + The underrated power of a dramatic rant to your pet

  • Whether you’re crushing it, crawling through it, or crying about it (same), I hope this reminds you: you’re not behind. You’re just on your own damn timeline. And honestly? That’s kind of the dream.

If you’ve ever felt behind, stuck, or like everyone else got the manual for life but you, you’re not alone. And you’re in the right place.

    49. Okay Yes I’m Spiraling, But Productively

Ever catch yourself spiralling so hard your brain’s doing Olympic-level mental gymnastics over… literally nothing? Same here, friend. In this episode, I’m sharing 3 weirdly effective tools that help me stop the mental chaos just enough to function. No toxic positivity. No “just journal about it" (that does help too sometimes, ngl).

Just small, free, actually doable things to feel less like a feral raccoon in a human costume.

    We talk about:

🌀 Naming the spiral (yes, out loud, speak UP)

    🫁 A military-grade breathing hack for passive-aggressive emails

🪥 Main character energy while brushing your teeth (I know, don't laugh lol)

If your brain is always 3 tabs away from a meltdown, this one’s for you.

    48. Untangling The Knots with Alison Zamora

We’re chatting with Alison Zamora, an experience designer, writer, and guided journaling facilitator. Alison's journey is a powerful reminder that sometimes, we have to completely shake things up in order to realign with our truest selves.

Alison shares her experience of walking away from her corporate job with no plan in sight—side note: required reading for this ep. is her Substack article, “Macrodosing On Gratitude,” go read that first and then come back and listen. She believed that quitting would solve all her problems. Been there, am I right?? But instead, she found herself in a whirlwind of emotions, questioning everything she thought she wanted in life. She talks openly about how uncomfortable it was to feel so misaligned, and how that discomfort eventually led her to uncover deeper clarity about who she truly is.

We dive into her reflections on how journaling became a lifeline for processing those tough moments, giving her the space to express what she couldn’t yet say out loud. Alison also shares how owning her "mistakes" and embracing the messy middle of her journey helped her step into a more authentic, aligned version of herself.

If you're feeling stuck or uncertain, this conversation is a must-listen, friends. It's all about giving yourself grace, trusting the process, and knowing that the discomfort you feel now might just be the catalyst for your next big breakthrough.

    46. What Doesn't Kill You, Texts You Six Months Later

How many times have you yearned for your ex to see their wrongs and come crawling back into your life? How many TikTok tarot videos have you watched or journal entries have you dedicated to your past loves imagining that “if we got back together, this time will be different for us and it will all work out.” 👀 Absolutely no judgment, friend. I’ve been there!

I feel like it’s a passage of navigating love, to experience at least one relationship where you feel like the other one got away. From what I learned though, they actually do always come back, in some form or another, it’s not always in the way you anticipated but they find their way...

If you are listening to this single and/or heartbroken, you might find some comfort in realizing that he or she will return one day... However, I encourage you to use this knowledge to empower you and instead love and work on yourself. Because let’s be real, the “right” person wouldn’t have even walked away from you in the first place.

In this episode, we’re also sharing hilarious, awkward and cutesy Valentine's Day stories from Reddit and submitted by listeners.

    43. Allergic To Small Talk with Jess Janz
Picture this, you’re at a holiday party where you only know the host. Everyone else is a stranger to you but that’s okay because your goal for 2025 is to meet new people. Think about the top 5 questions you’d ask strangers at this party. Go ahead, list them out right now. Do any of them involve asking about their career? Did you know that’s like one of the first things we talk about with a complete stranger is what we do for work? When we do this, we may or may not realize but we’re indirectly communicating that our jobs make up one of, if not the greatest value of our identity. To which we start down the path of figuring out what we each other “do” so that we can determine who has the better job, makes more money, and has more quote on quote status, so that in turn we establish who is more superior in the conversation. This song and dance is inevitable. It happens to all of us. It’s learned behaviour and in a way it makes us feel safe. Our guest today, Jess Janz, has also been the victim of being asked pointless and at times insensitive questions that restrict rather than foster meaningful connection. Jess is a writer, community facilitator, and the creator of Dinner With Strangers, an innovative event series that brings together people from diverse walks of life to share stories over a meal. Her work explores identity, connection, and what truly binds us as humans. In this episode, we're discussing how to ask meaningful questions, what happens when we put work aside and truly put ourselves out there, and what a reciprocal and deep conversation can do for us all.

Do you often think about work outside of the office? Do you have hobbies that don't involve your job? How would you feel if you couldn't continue in your career? Would it be very upsetting to you? If it is difficult to answer any of those questions, my friend, you and I need to have a chat. In this episode, we’re diving into the challenge of separating our work from our identity, a crucial step in avoiding burnout, career enmeshment and fostering personal growth. Don’t get me wrong, it’s much easier said than done but there are small and easy ways we can introduce into our everyday life that will distance our identity from our jobs and so that we feel secure in ourselves. 41. Mute Your Competition
Comparing ourselves… we’ve all done it. All felt that pang of jealousy when we see someone else have what we want. It’s only natural. But I find in today’s social media-obsessed world, it’s a daily occurrence and I’m comparing myself to someone or something a lot. This usually sends me into a spiral feeling like I’m not good enough, that I’ll never be “successful,” and that my goals and dreams are not worth fulfilling. #tragic When I feel this way, I do this trick to stop the external noise so that I can refocus my energy on myself and what truly makes me happy. Muting your competition is a lifesaver, I’m telling ya! In this episode, we’re diving into the challenges of navigating life and the toll the comparison trap can take on our mental health. We're sharing insights on personal growth, finding your unique voice, and how using the good ol’ mute function on social media can help you break free from unhealthy competition. P.S. I have no idea what happened to my mic feed but it CLEARLY didn’t work. My apologies, hopefully, you can hang in there for this episode, I’ll ensure it’s back to the crisp audio that we’re used to next episode. I don’t know about you but the typical 9 to 5 grind has been brutal lately. Doing the same thing day in and day out, working for someone else, is not as inspiring as it used to be. Especially after Miss Rona, the work landscape has changed drastically. Remote work is the new norm, employees are actually setting boundaries and work is no longer the main focus of everyone's life. And thank god for that!! Shaughnessy King was ahead of the curve and realized all of this second everyone was forced back to work after the pandemic. She pivoted her career and used transferrable skills to land several part-time virtual assistant jobs. At the time, she didn’t realize the demand for virtual assistance but thought it’d be a great opportunity to continue earning an income. Cut to now she is the founder of Success By Ness, an micro-agency that provides virtual executive business support. Through the freedom of her work, she has become somewhat of a digital nomad with her husband and daughter, and is currently residing in Mexico for the year. Talk about living the DREAM life. This episode is for anyone who is struggling in their career, is unsure of what to do next but needs to pay the bills. You might just find that virtual assisting is the right fit for you. We’re highlighting the value of VA’s providing support and helping businesses thrive, the importance of finding a niche and leveraging one's skills and experience, Shaughnessy’s experience of living in different countries and adjusting to different lifestyles and all the deets on how to secure a temporary residency.

How many times have you said to your best friend, "we should start a business together." I honestly think it’s a true testament to friendship to have this thought cross your mind at least once. You and your friend daydream and joke that, "this would be a really great idea” but then nothing comes to fruition... Well the same story of friendship applies to our guests, Cora Pursley and Payton Butler. They always knew they wanted to get into business together but unlike the rest of us, these two went the distance. They are now part-time business partners and founders of Dupe Photos! Dupe is THE place for royalty-free imagery that you actually want to use. With Cora and Payton's social media and creative design backgrounds, it was only natural that they created a site that acts as a social-first image bank that works to support and showcase creators. We chat about SO much in this episode, there is a takeaway for anyone figuring it out in life. We’re discussing how to continue moving past the dreaming stage of creating something and simply starting the work, realizing imposter syndrome doesn’t get easier as you get older, the key to success when in business with your bestie, trying to live your life in your 20s while also launching a business and accepting that getting the job done is sometimes better than it being absolutely perfect. 33. Is Home A Feeling Or A Place?
How do you define the idea of “home?” Is it by the way you decorate your place or the furnishings you have? Maybe home to you is using your favorite coffee machine every morning and drinking your cup outside on your patio. Or maybe it’s not through physical things and rather the feeling you receive when you’re spending a night out with your besties. Either way is 100% right! I’m sharing today how my perception of home has changed over the years. How it started as purely a feeling and how I’m transitioning into finally having a space to call “home.” If you’re of the mindset that home is more of a feeling rather than a physical place than you’ll totally relate to this episode. We’re discussing how moving around for majority of your life can skew with your sense of belonging and idea of “home.” Furthermore we’re looking at the research as to how these feelings of displacement can actually affect our ability to develop and maintain social connections. Don’t forget to reach out to me on Instagram and/or TikTok and share with us what your idea of home is and what you do to foster that feeling. Side note: now that I’ve listened back to this audio while holding my mic… It’s absolute trash! So I apologize for the audio quality.
