During the October 2025 Special Programme, we were admonished to seek the Lord concerning our corporate calling: touching the souls of men, and to make it our utmost priority in life. To achieve this, we must examine daily, our driving motive in this life.

By virtue of God’s divine foresight, He not only knows the future concerning us, but He also makes provision to help bring us into that future. Depending on the state of our hearts, this help either comes to encourage us to do the good we desire to do or to restrain us from doing the evil our hearts are set on. This divine effort towards us is called Grace.

If God knows all things, does that mean our future is already fixed so that we cannot do anything about it? And if the future is not already fixed (pre-determined), how does God’s will play out in the face of man’s free will?

Many believers often try to take control of their spiritual growth — praying harder, fasting longer, and striving to obey better— with the hopes of influencing God through their own efforts. But this kind of approach yields no results because we don’t have what it takes to affect God. Spiritual things dwell and find expression in the material things that correspond to them. Our outward engagement can either stifle or allow divine operations to be manifested in our lives. When our outward engagements are rightly aligned, we are able to ‘trap’ the Spirit of God and manifest what is spiritual through our vessels—fasting is a key spiritual exercise that helps us in this regard.
