She was given a "use by date" of 12 years old.
In this episode I sit down with Tayla to chat about the reality of living with Cystic Fibrosis. (I had no idea what it really was) We get into the "invisible" struggles that you'd never see just by looking at her, the time her sweat turned into actual salt crystals in her soccer gear (wild), and the groundbreaking drug trial that changed her life right when things were looking their worst.
Plus, we bond over my theory that humans are basically just used cars waiting for a mechanic, and she teaches me that sometimes, a dark sense of humour is the best survival mechanism you can have.

This is a Quick Fix by request!
I was sitting in the library doing some editing yesterday arvo, when a message came through via Facebook. It said:
Hey Rabs, have been listening from the beginning in order - just finished 150 the other day with Heather, and you mentioned that you would put up the BIMMS as a quick fix. I have a few people I would like to listen to it. I have looked but can't see it, and don't want to have to go back to the original ep to find it
Any chance you could put it up?
Well, ask and ye shall receive!
If you want to hear more from this chat with Heather (Heather Irvine-Rundle, clinical psychologist from the READ Clinic), just scroll on back to Episodes 72 and 73. (It was a 2 parter)
Thanks for your support! I really appreciate it!
Rabs
I was in a horrible place recently.
And even when a friend offered to listen, I told them I was fine. (I wasn't). This chat with my old colleague Larissa is about International Men's Day... and why she's championing it.
We talk about why it feels 'controversial' to even celebrate men, and the awful stats (three-quarters of suicides are male) that prove why we need to. We get into why we (as blokes) feel like a burden, why we struggle to talk, and why I've now promised to call one of my best mates (result below).
I think this is a really important chat.
We do mention suicide in this one, so if you're not in a great space yourself right now, maybe give this one a skip? And remember, Lifeline provides a free, 24-hour crisis support service. If you need to, call them on 13 11 14.

"𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗙𝗨𝗡𝗡𝗜𝗘𝗦𝗧 𝗘𝗣𝗜𝗦𝗢𝗗𝗘 𝗦𝗢 𝗙𝗔𝗥!!"
That's what was said about Episode 55 when it came out about a year ago. These nurses tell the best stories! Like...
What song was playing on the hospital stereo for their first deliveries as midwives 😂
The biggest baby they've delivered 😳
And how some husbands handle being there 😂
This is a quick 20 minute version that's ALL laughs! To hear the full episode it came from, just search for Episode 55 of the Podvan Podcast!
Kyla (from Cakes By Kyla) is back in the Podvan!
It’s been ages (three kids ago, apparently!) since Kyla’s been in. We catch up on what’s happened since she closed the cupcake store after 8 crazy years, and how she’s gone back to her roots. Of course, with Kyla’s massive social media following comes a whole lot of drama... we talk about the controversy, how she’s developed a thick skin to deal with the trolls, and the story behind the new Central Coast Farmer’s Markets (and the online #marketwars that kicked off!).
We also get completely sidetracked by emoji shortcuts, dodgy internet speeds, and why we both get our fists up when we’re startled.
You can follow Kyla's amazing creations over at https://www.instagram.com/cakesbykyla

It’s a "Thankful Thursday" Quick Fix, and for the first time in history, Jules and I recorded it on an actual Thursday. (And it has the World's Best Jingle)
Julie shares what she's grateful for this week, including her "playground" kitchen and a big family holiday.

"Why isn't anyone talking about this?"
That's the question that sat with Richard and Lee for years... so they started a podcast (Richly Told) to talk about it all themselves!
In this episode, we get into all the stuff we usually hide: the feeling of being a "terrible employee," the courage it takes to talk about mental health, and that moment of finally admitting you might need to ask for help (and what happens when you're a total sceptic about it).
It's a chat that I reckon will make a lot of people go, "Oh, that's soooo like me."
We also chat about why they homeschool their kids and there's a hilarious story about how they got together!
You can (and totally should) check out their podcast, Richly Told, here!

Well, this was the end of the 50 Guests In 50 Minutes (attempt) from a Sunday morning at Long Jetty Markets. We got the 50 guests.... It just went over a few episodes! Lots of laughs in this one, finishing with a couple of HILARIOUS kids and a Podvan Podband song!!
Enjoy! 🤗
My guest today had NO idea he was the guest.
This was a heap of fun.
Wayne from Coast FM 963 thought he was just popping down to the waterfront to pre-record a quick chat for his show... until the awesome moment at the start of this one where he realised that he was actually the guest for this episode! (I think his heart is still recovering).
We get into why he (and a third of all Aussies) volunteer their time for free, the absolute passion of being a true "radio nerd," and what it was like for him to go on air for the first time. It also got me thinking about my own start in radio, from playing pretend in a caravan to the mentor who inspired my entire career.
I also share the story of my disastrous first-ever live shift...

This is part three of the "50 Guests in 50 Minutes" special, and the stories just get crazier. Rani was adopted from Sri Lanka and only found out her real birth year (but still not the date!) after she Googled her biological name and found her sister who had been searching for her. We also hear from her daughter who has some terrifyingly funny sleepwalking stories and meet someone with a truly freaky thumb talent!

Now listen... This was recorded BEFORE the official announcement (I think it's pretty clear that I didn't know all of the details about the tour at that stage), but it was recorded at that time purely to capture the hilarity of a question Julie had been asked by her management.
It's sooooo funny!! In fact, this episode has a LOT of laughs in it!
We chat about/workshop what the stage setup will actually look like, what'll be in the show, what's going up on the big screen - and I think we well and truly answer that question Julie's management put to us. 🤭
We'd LOVE to see you at a show!!

OK! So, this Quick Fix is a snippet from waaaaay back in Episode 51, recorded live at the Long Jetty Markets.
We've got a whole bunch of guests with short stories like: The most mortifying thing a dog can possibly do at work, what it feels like when a theme park ride malfunctions while you're upside down, a useless superpower involving only lips, and a dare that ended with a bloke becoming a temporary nude statue in a small French town.
Good times!
Remember, if you enjoy this snippet, you can always jump back to Episode 51 and hear the whole thing!

It's been almost 20 years since Damien Leith won Australian Idol! In this chat, we find out what job he was doing when he auditioned, we get into some of his crazy celebrity run-ins and he tries to convince me to put something on hot chips that just sounds nuts! (Apparently it's a very Irish thing to do)
He also finishes our chat with a beautiful, acoustic performance of his new single, 'These Days', live from the Podvan!

In this episode, I tell Jules about seeing my 15-year-old daughter try on her formal dress for the first time... and how I basically crumbled into a million pieces.
Julie then tells the beautiful story of her son Patty getting engaged, and how he was white as a sheet with nerves before it!
Lots of laughs - and a lot of heart in this one. And in case you haven't heard, we're 2 episodes away from a huge announcement! I can't wait to share it with you!!! 🤗

With the sad news yesterday of Jane Goodall's passing, we thought we'd look back at an episode where her name randomly popped up - and led to an amazing story!
It was during my visit to Lithgow and a chat with Melinda from Kanimbla Wombats - who was hanging out with Jane just last year. If you don't now anything about Jane Goodall and the amazing things she did - have a listen to this. 🤗
"You're deaf but you're not deaf enough."
I had the absolute pleasure of sitting down with the brilliant Mikaela Magro, a 19-year-old legend from the Central Coast who plays for the Australian Women's Deaf Football Team.
I had so many questions!
We chat about the amazing technology - like the magnet screwed to her skull (that doubles as a brilliant party trick), and the surprising rule that every player has to follow, to create a truly level playing field.
Mikaela is currently fundraising to get to the Deaf Olympics in Tokyo. If you can help her in any way at all, please head to:

About a year ago, I pulled into the Triple M carpark with the Podvan (which was a WEIRD moment - after years of driving past it every weekday on my way to a competing breakfast radio show!) and I had a great chat with Maz Compton.
Maz does the show with Paddy Gerrard and we go waaaaaay back! In fact, she said that I was the first person to ever put her on air!
We went to all sorts of places - including this bit, where Maz talked about quitting drinking, and getting her endometriosis diagnosis.
If you enjoy it - and want to hear the full episode, just scroll back and look for Ep 48!
Thanks for listening! Have a great day!

First up, a bit of a warning on this one. This episode deals with the loss of a child. There's tears, there's (surprisingly) a lot of laughs - and there's actually a positive message out of the whole thing. It's a beautiful episode - but I wanted to give you a heads-up, so it didn't come out of the blue and trigger something for you. 🤗
When the Podvan rolled up to the Cancer Council's annual Relay for Life, I didn't know who I'd meet there. I couldn't have imagined I’d sit down with Lou and Rob, the proud parents of a champion - who I'd actually met a few years ago.
Their son, Spencer, was a 10 year old entrepreneur that launched "Spins Bins," a wheelie bin cleaning empire.
In the episode, Lou and Rob share their story about finding laughter and light in the darkest of times, what keeps them going, (one minute at a time) and the incredible community that has rallied around them.
Please leave a comment and rate the podcast if you enjoy the episode - it really does help!

"I don't feel comfortable asking people for money."
This is a bit of a different one... it's a podcast within a podcast! My business coach (Marcus Kroek) asked me to go on his Business Unlocked podcast, to talk about my journey from employee to business owner.
We chat about everything from how I learned to define my own version of success (it's actually not about the money) to why I needed to stop working 24/7.
If you're in business yourself, you might get some helpful stuff from this chat. If you're not, I hope you'll just enjoy a bit of a behind-the-scenes look at the mindset shifts I've had to make along the way.

Oh man, if you haven't heard this story - you're in for a treat!! (And it's super short and sweet!)
Julie had a great idea: let's bring back our old radio segment, Thankful Thursday! Simple, right? WRONG.
What if someone listens on a Saturday? Or starts on a Thursday but finishes on a Monday?! The panic was real, but the jingle I came up with to solve this ridiculous, self-inflicted problem is even better.
