Why does your brain have such a hard time believing new and positive thoughts about yourself and your stutter? Why do all of the old, negative thoughts keep coming back? Its called confirmation bias, and it is how your brain preserves energy. Have a listen to this episode to learn how confirmation bias can make you resistant to changing your views on yourself and how you talk.
What do you think it means about you when you stutter? In this episode we look at how our thoughts about ourselves when we stutter are what can create uncomfortable feelings. I tell you about two clients who I've worked with, who thought they just didn't want to stutter because it was a bit embarrassing, but when we investigated that feeling we found out that it was what they were making their stutter mean about them as a person, which was causing them angst.
Take a look inside your brain at why so many people have been socialised to believe that speaking differently is a problem. Why does stuttering sometimes feel so bad, and does it have to be this way?
