Part 2 of my conversation with Devin rolls on! After a 2-week break we regroup and picked up as if we never stopped. We found ourselves talking about how we handle managing time, playing the comparison game, not getting too caught up in outcomes while still pursuing them, and much more.

This episode was supposed to be about content creation (because Devin is a master at it — 2x Head of Content at unicorn startups Gong and Clari, 95k+ Linkedin followers, best B2B podcast in the game). But what I've always liked about the way this show runs is we don't fight momentum. Since Devin and I are so close personally, it's easy to gain momentum in unexpected places. And shortly after we began, we started going deeper into our respective journeys, our mindset, and how we've changed and grown as individuals through our businesses. As we started going in that direction, I found myself not wanting to pull away from it because I was learning a lot, and I realized you will too. So, in an unexpected twist, Devin steps to the mic this week for a conversation about figuring out WHO you are, and how that shapes WHAT you build (despite me saying during his introduction that we're talking about the future of content creation).
Devin opens up about how a significant personal loss became the catalyst for taking a big swing, we talk finding time to be present for both business and family, and detaching our personal identity from our business. Our time was cut short so enjoy part 1 this week, and we'll have part 2 of the conversation ready for you in our next episode.

Most startups chase the next automation hack. Gabe Lullo built his by betting on people instead. As CEO of Alleyoop and host of the Do Hard Things podcast, he’s helped over 1,600 founders scale by focusing on one thing that never goes out of style—real human connection. From 11 million cold calls a year to rebuilding how companies hire, train, and lead SDRs, Gabe’s rethinking what growth actually looks like in the age of AI. He steps to the mic this week to talk founder-led selling, why most sales hires fail, and how to build a team that never stops doing the hard things.

S4 BONUS! Creativity & Betting On Yourself - Reed Between The Lines
We've got a special bonus for you this week! It's a re-airing of my appearance as a guest on the Reed Between The Lines podcast with my friend Devin Reed. I've done a lot of interviews in my life, and this is hands down my favorite one ever. We peel back the curtain on the transformation from Rajiv Nathan to 'RajNATION' and get into the REAL stuff — setbacks, insecurities, relationships, and more. The stuff that really comes into play when you decide to bet on yourself. This interview was originally recorded in March 2024 and aired on Devin's show in May 2024. This one's long, but worth every song.

What if your startup’s biggest advantage isn’t your code, your speed, or even your traction but your ability to protect what’s yours? In a world where AI can replicate your idea in days, defensibility isn’t a luxury it’s survival. And few people understand that better than Bao Tran. Before founding Transformation VC, an IP-first venture capital firm, Bao built the patent strategy for Invasalign and Shutterfly before they became mega-brands. Now, he's rethinking what early-stage support should look like, using patents, AI, and a few surprising strategies to help founders build real moats. He steps to the mic in this week's episode to talk startup risk in the AI era, how his fund is making investments, and how to protect your ass(ets). Because sometimes, it’s not about being first — it’s about being uncopyable.

Most sales advice today is either outdated or outright cringe. Meanwhile AI has made its way into every corner of life and business, and sales is no exception. Leslie Venetz is a rare (and deadly) combination of being a sales maestro, and on trend with technology. She's been employee #1 at multiple startups, sold into the likes of Kraft and AT&T, grown a TikTok account (@salestipstok) to 42k+ followers, and that's just the tip of the iceberg. Most recently she's launched The Sales-Led GTM Agency helping early-stage companies build their sales motions, and authored the upcoming book Profit Generating Pipeline: A Proven Formula to Earn Turst and Drive Revenue. With this experience, Leslie is who I turn to for knowing how the field evolves. She steps to the mic in this week’s episode to talk how AI fits into a sales motion. She also shares highlights from her upcoming book, her take on the "SDRS are dead" narrative, and yes — we dissect a few real, terrible cold emails along the way.

Did you know some of the most iconic products and ideas in American history came out of the Great Depression? Not in spite of it — but because of it. In a time of scarcity, creativity thrived: Superman was born. Church bingo took off. Farmers started raising bullfrogs. And a banjo-playing dropout turned Scotch tape into a multi-million dollar business. All of this matters today as we face a period of uncertainty not too dissimilar from The Great Depression. One of the leading minds exploring the link between constraint and innovation is Jason Voiovich. Jason is a researcher, entrepreneur, and 3x author, most recently publishing his 2025 title Bullfrogs, Bingo, and the Little House on the Prairie, a book that dives deep into the entrepreneurial breakthroughs of the 1930s. He steps to the mic in this week's episode — his second time on the show! — to talk frugal innovation, what modern founders can learn from history, and how to spot opportunity in unlikely places — especially when resources are tight.

Did you know experts at Yale determined with up to 80% accuracy who would win a pitch competition purely based on the sound of their voice? It's not all about what you say, it's about how you say it. Your pitch, tone, rhythm, and even your breathing. Even a small shift can compeletely change perception. In fact, your voice might be your most overlooked go-to-market asset. One of the leading minds in the art and science of 'how you say it' is Margaret Izard Oskoui. Margaret is a professional opera singer turned voice coach and founder of Peacock Voices, where she helps leaders, speakers, and founders unlock the full power of their voice. Not just to sound better, but to be heard and understood. She steps to the mic in this week's episode to talk habits, stage presence, and how to make sure your message lands every time you speak. We even cover what makes pop music so popular, how to adjust on the fly, and practical vocal exercise you can do to get your voice ready for your next big pitch or just your next big meeting.

Madhav Bhandari helped take StoryLane from $900K to $8M in just 3 years. His approach? Don’t follow the playbook. Break it. We started this episode planning to talk about using your product to sell your product. But partway through, pattern interrupt marketing interrupted the episode itself — and we pivoted the whole conversation. From coffee carts with branded latte art to a mobile demo truck parked outside conferences, Madhav has made a habit of zigging when everyone else zags. Now as StoryLane’s Head of Marketing, he’s turned those creative swings into a repeatable GTM strategy. One that uses the product, surprises the buyer, and creates content your audience has to share. He steps to the mic to talk scaling B2B SaaS, finding breakout channels, and why the goal isn’t just attention — it’s obsession.

You've heard of Go To Market. But have you heard of Go To CUSTOMER? GTC is going beyond getting the product in customer's hands and being intentional about the program(s) you build around the product to ensure uptake, produce successful outcomes, lower churn, and create advocates. It's the 'hidden' stuff that hedges against friction being your rate limiting factor. Sid Khaitan is an experienced product marketer (currently with BeeKeeper). He also currently serves as Content Artist at Startup Hypeman where he helps evangelize our clients' message through Brand Manifestos, and helps them evangelize their clients through unique customer story writeups. If you were a PGA golfer you'd seemingly have the perfect career, right? Get paid to play golf, while playing on the best courses possible. From 5 years old, Soo Ahn worked his whole life to make it onto the PGA Tour. His hard work paid off when he got his Tour Card. He had made it into the top 1% of his field. But once he had 'made it', playing golf didn't play out as he had dreamed. So he made a huge pivot.
As entrepreneurs, sometimes we have to pivot. That pivot could mean a new audience, a new product, or it could even mean a new company altogether.
Soo's pivot took him into the culinary world where he became a chef. He started over with no network and no training but rose the ranks to some of the top kitchens in Chicago and achieved a Michelin Star, becoming a top 1%-er yet again. He's currently the Executive Chef at Adalina where he's won awards for Best Dish, Best Meal, and Best New Restaurant. He was also a contestant on Top Chef Season 21, making it to the final 7 before elimination. He steps to the mic in our season premiere to share his lessons and advice pivoting from sand wedges to sandwiches, par putts to par-boils, and some of the reality behind reality TV competitions.

What's your superpower? Every Founder has one.
At the same time, not every founder has the SAME one.
Which means just because Sara Blakely or Bill Gates did things one way, doesn't mean you also have to do things that way.
When you know your superpower you can better make strategic decisions, acknowledge what should stay on your plate versus what you should delegate, and perhaps most importantly, be aware of your blind spots.
Michelle Denogean has spent decades in the "Director's chair" for several startups, working as a VP and CMO.
She helped her previous company, Roadster, scale from 15 to 200 employees and exit for nearly $400M.
Through all her experiences, she's worked alongside the founder and observed their traits, quirks, and shortcomings.
She combined her experience with psychological research to author her book titled Grow Up! Take your startup to the next level.
In the book, she explains the 4 superpowers of a successful founder and how to identify yours. She steps to the mic in our season finale for a conversation on finding your cape.

One of the biggest struggles of an early stage startup is creating content.
Or, really I should say creating GOOD content. It's pretty easy to publish a whitepaper that no one cares about, make Linkedin posts that don't get traction, or start a podcast but quit after 5 episodes.
Creating content isn't hard, creating content that actually drives leads is hard.
Erin Balsa is a content strategy expert who has written for the likes of Hubspot, Monday.com, G2, and more.
At Haus of Bold, she focuses on building content strategies for early stage startups so they aren't just writing random SEO-optimized blog posts that don't generate new business.
The key, she says, is having a clear point-of-view. She steps to the mic in this week's episode to share what great startups do really well in their content strategy.

Have you ever worked really hard on a piece of content, only for it to get like 5 likes online?
It could be a bad distribution strategy or bad timing, but more likely it's because the content doesn't resonate.
What if instead of approaching your content like a tech or product company, you approached it like a media company?
Tyler Lessard didn't just approach it like a media company, he in fact launched an entire media brand called Sales Feed.
150,000 followers and subscribers later, something's working right.
If you've been with this show long enough, you might remember that for about 2 years I was one of SalesFeed's on-air talents, cohosting a youtube series and podcast with Tyler.
We also created nearly a half-dozen parody music videos together.
Our relationship runs deep, so I had to get him on this podcast.
He steps to the mic this week to share how Sales Feed started, taking a different approach to content creation, how they use different channels for different purposes, and how you can think like a media company even if you don't have budget.

This episode is also brought to you by our friends at AKAVA, the GOATs of software development. I've seen too many startups get screwed over by offshore or budget dev shops. Those groups are order takers and do the bare minimum, which often means software with gaping holes, or being forced to pay hidden 'release fees' to claim ownership of your code. Then there's Akava, who actually builds strategically for scale from day 1, helps you make product decisions, and gives you full ownership of your code by default. Want to become the GOAT to Market? Sarah Sitz knows exactly what this looks like, having spent time as employee #14 at Foxtrot helping grow the company from Series A to C and launching their private-label brand, and now as Cofounder of brand GTM agency The Squeeze.
She steps to the mic in this week's episode to share how to invest wisely in your brand, position yourself for growth, and the difference between an influencer and influential strategy.
