S00E21 Stranger Things Finale: Special

STRANGER THINGS FINALE: Reviewed!

It’s a Stranger Things finale special! We simply had to do it. Because we share a lot of things in common with Stranger Things. Ultimately, across years and years of episodes … our show is also a show about growing up. A real coming-of-age story, if you will. Just don’t ask for a numerical value of said age. And also … despite all manner of tangents and unexplored B-stories, the true meaning of both Stranger Things and the Cultural Content Consumption Hour is obviously: friendship. Awwww. So there. Eat that, haters.

Do we have any fun for you in the show notes today or what? Firstly, we have joined the internet discourse just saying all the things about the Duffer brothers. ALL THE THINGS. Well not all the things. The internet is on a mad one, as ever. We’re barely saying some of the things. Scratching the surface of some of the things. But good, we deserve our say also. On this day of all days, a week after the finale dropped … and, the day after secret episode was supposed to drop: https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/articles/zrk83qt

Hahaha remember when there was supposed to be a secret album after The King of Limbs? Lol.

And also, we got to get into our feels! Love a series finale! Love some zeitgeist! And after literal *years* of hosting a cultural review show together, we love suddenly talking about the last episode of a show that we have both watched the entirety of that we have somehow never talked about before!

Welcome to … *the last special* … for now? TO BE CONTINUED!

Special FAVE MOMENT FROM THE POD RECORD note for VIP read-the-whole-show-notes-members only: When Christopher went in on Jonathan Byers. He called him “wet” lol. If Christopher had been a character in fictional Hawkins and given Jonathan that kind of guff on the show, he basically would have been the high school bully! Winona Ryder would have kicked his ass!! We can dream, I guess.

The Cultural Content Consumption Appraisal Hour
S0E20 The 'third' annual Year that wasn't Awards

Welcome to the third annual CCCAH AWARDS for THE 2025 THAT WASN’T! Only one way to welcome in 2026 right!? WE ARE ON THE MOST SPECIAL RUN OF SPECIALS OF OUR LIFETIMES GANG! You did it and you’re here for it. We’re here for it. Lock in. 2026 about to get welcomed the fuck in.

We have been on the craziest run of specials and we have been having a hell of a time. But this is the crown jewel. This is the grandest stage of ‘em all of podcast specials. It’s The Year That Wasn’t Awards … again! The 3rd annual YTWAs! Also known as the FOMOs! That’s right. We’re fomosexuals. And this is our pride parade!

Mainly we’ll all remember this episode as the episode where Christopher took some convincing (pre-pod) and roasting (during the pod) that this is in fact our third awards show rather than our second. Big lols folks. Big ones. Do you reading this recall our first two? Of course you do, you’re a seasoned and longtime shownotes reader … *big eyes emoji*.

Once again there will be 4 awards, each in 3 different overarching categories: movies, music and gigs/events. Do you have any winners of your own personal YTAs you’d like to share? Have a gander at our socials below and I’m almost sure you’ll get a shout out in a future ep. Happy new year, both to those of you who are new to this, and to those of you who are true to this! Six seasons and a Patreon gang. See you soon.

THE YTW in MOVIES

Movie you wish had been made

Movie you wish you had seen

Movie you wish we had seen together (‘we’ being your pod co-host, “partner” or bestie … not the Pluribus kind of ‘we’ haha)

Movie/celebrity story you wish had happened

THE YTW in MUSIC

Musical artist you wish had released an album

Musical artists you wish had collaborated on an album

Musical artist you wish had written a book

Musical artist you wish made a triumphant comeback

And THE YTW in GIGS/EVENTS

Gig you wish had happened this year

Gig you wish you had attended

Gig you wish we had attended together (again, the nice we!)

Story in entertainment you wish had happened

And finally, one CP (Cultural Prediction) and one CR (Cultural Resolution).

If you were expecting to find the tweet of the week here I can only apologise. That was the tweet of the week last year when we recorded. But now it’s the new year when you’re hearing this. So it got lost in the space time continuum or something.

The Cultural Content Consumption Appraisal Hour
S00E19 The Third Annual Cultural Content Consumption Appraisal Hour Christmas Special Spectacular

What are the Top 5 Christmas-related episodes of television all time!? It’s time to find out, on: IT’S THE THIRD ANNUAL CCCAHCSS (Cultural Content Consumption Appraisal Hour Christmas Special Spectacular)!!! Insert *obvious humour laughter* here!

That’s right. We did it again. You thought we had said our piece. Music and movies. The two … things! All the bases covered. Goodnight and God bless. Good bye and good luck. But no! Of course not! Of course “no”! Because the trifecta requires trifecta-completion. Wouldn’t exactly be a trifecta without a third thing, now would it!? I hear you saying “you never claimed this would be a trifecta” from the outset but hey, hey there, hey now … shush our beautiful and darling listener. We have some listing to do. It is time to make our famous top 5 list. We are bringing the power of both of these minds together to assemble a co-signed top 5 Christmas-themed tv show episodes ever.

Will next year be tv adverts or will next year be the beginning of a every-three-years-we-will-circle-back and revisit movies, songs and now tv-show-episodes in that order? Only time will tell. Listen, the main thing is, Santa did you a solid. No one has to know there were serious discussions about having a Christmas break for the first time this year. In that same way that all the kiddos out there don’t need to know the reality that Santa and his elves nearly call it off every single year! How could they not!? It is the biggest faff ever, all this Christmas stuff. But no, we don’t need to know all that. We’ll just enjoy our Christmas presents. And we hope you enjoy our list today. And we look forward to you lambasting us for missing out on this or that!

The last two years we used TimeOut to centre our picks around and to give us some context. But this year, we got in bed with IMDB. And we’re ok with it. The list is wild and the public who vote in them are even wilder but hey. We stan OGs: https://www.imdb.com/list/ls053785135/

We also referred to Netflix telling us things: https://www.netflix.com/tudum/articles/christmas-tv-episodes-on-netflix

Reddit tried to get involved and all: https://www.reddit.com/r/television/comments/1pbcwk5/which_shows_have_the_best_christmas/

Wait WHO ARE TV LINE: https://www.tvline.com/2050353/best-christmas-sitcom-episodes/

PLURIBUS SEASON 1 EPISODE 1: Reviewed!

Well, we still haven’t sold our souls to hit monkeys! And our Patreon era beckons. But for now … it’s Christmas time! Can you believe it’s back already!? I for one certainly cannot. And yet here we are. And on your podcast advent-calendar, there are barely any left episodes left until your favourite time of the year: a Christmas special and a Fomo awards. Yay! It’s beginning to look a lot like podcast Christmas! Enjoy all these episodes that are free and not paywalled while it’s still Season 6 and #REVIEW1THING and you can!

Today we get into all of it. It’s another banner day for results and fans of WHO ACTUALLY WON THE EPISODE so stay tuned until the very end, even if you find all the pre-finding-out-the-result chat absolute nonsense and irrelevant.

Vince Gilligan has returned to television. Much like Mozart once returned to music and Shakespeare once returned to the theatre. If the internet (and Christopher!) are to be believed! He is back with a show about … well … something. I’m sure our in-episode synopsising while suffice! Completely unassisted by AI. That’s right folks. This show was made by humans.

The good people of Reddit who are interested in screenwriting were talking about the pilot here: https://www.reddit.com/r/Screenwriting/comments/1ous7ze/what_makes_the_pluribus_pilot_so_special/

This is the character Carol from Pluribus doing her own (kayfabe!) Reddit AMA. Amazing concept and very fun execution, if you’re up for really diving in: https://www.reddit.com/r/tvPlus/comments/1p1lnf4/im_carol_sturka_author_of_bloodsong_of_wycaro_ask/

Special FAVE MOMENT FROM THE POD RECORD note for VIP read-the-whole-show-notes-members only: When we had a proper in-depth discussion regarding the future of the 30 second game. Reminiscent of our K POP DEMON HUNTERS episode when we spent the first half of the episode basically doing a pre-production podcast meeting *on* the podcast. In this case at least we definitively got somewhere … eventually! *winking emoji*

S06E14 I’ve just read that, it’s a bit of a mouthful

MOJO MAGAZINE ISSUE 384 NOVEMBER 2025: Reviewed!

Long live years of discovering new music and new things, in every which way! Welcome to a podcast reviewing a magazine full of reviews! We will finally reach peak meta when Mojo reviews us reviewing them. There will be a day, mark my words. Until then, I suppose we’ll just carry on reviewing things that review things without being reviewed by those things in return necessarily. Sigh. Maybe if we exclusively review things from decades gone by we will eventually get noticed by them. Or rather, twenty years after the podcast ends, but leaves in its wake a slew of pale imitations that take over the podcasting landscape.

But really, we are really happy magazines are still around. Please continue to stay around. Even if your super in-depth nature made it tricky for our rinky dink podcast to cover every inch of the coverage you provided us (especially since one of us had a hard out on the record today … hi!) we are still very much grateful for your existence. As we are wont to do, let’s talk about you.

Mojo lives here on what the kids call a “website”: https://www.mojo4music.com/

You can consider subscribing to Mojo here. Join us in becoming readers of things over scrollers of things, preferably with a nice coffee and in your book nook: https://www.mojo4music.com/subscription/

This is the magazine we’re reviewing this week. Order a copy. Read the second half and join us on a future Patreon special (along with a special where I watch the correct episode of Drag Race! We will call them the REVENGE OF THE CONTENT SPECIALS) where we cover all the things we didn’t get round to today, from Terry Reid and Bob Dylan/the free CD to The Who and all the reviews: https://www.mojo4music.com/magazine/latest-issues/mojo-384-november-2025-bob-dylan/

Think Floyd still exist! Woo hoo: https://www.thinkfloyd.net/gigs

We discussed Tim Burgess and his work with The Charlatans and having referenced enjoying a Charlatans performance about two decades ago, I’ve decided, I am done with dismissing them. He seems awesome and the MOJO interview was great. I’m gonna try them out and start with this super early single that Tim talks about making it to No. 12 in the charts the same week Oasis with Some Might Say and Blur with Country House battled for No. 1 and brought their battle for Britpop supremacy to a climax. I will be embarking on this journey (as with most journeys, to be fair) off-pod, so don’t worry Christopher … maybe worry, we’ll see … (p.s. PLEASE PITCH THE ROCKY HORROR PICTURE SHOW): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=blqPQP7RPXw

We almost talked about Terry Reid! Here he is singing his song Without Expression live on The Old Whistle Test: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jwa7KgVuypk

Say Hello Wave Goodybe by Soft Cell (most famously covered by David Gray on White Ladder): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=exdCiRPvmpU

The Cultural Content Consumption Appraisal Hour
S00E17 GIG SPECIAL Radiohead @ The 02 Monday 24th November 2025

Radiohead live: previewed and reviewed!

IT'S THE HOUR AND A HALF SPECIAL BABY! The one we've all been waiting for. Well. We did it and we were there. We previewed it for you. We reviewed it for you. Radiohead at the 02 in 2025. This is really happening, happening. We talk you through all the things, all of them. The history, the back stories and all assorted lore drops galore.

Radiohead are playing their first live shows in 7 years this year. And as they are our favourite band, we had to be there. And as we are your favourite podcast, we had to talk about it for you. Let’s link you up to some stuff.

Check out Reddit for all Radiohead related news because that is how fan communities work in the modern age whether you like it or find it a bit annoying to navigate: https://www.reddit.com/r/radiohead/

The one Radiohead interview the boys did for this tour: https://www.thetimes.com/culture/music/article/radiohead-tour-2025-interview-israel-fn0bmdzl8

Steven Hyden (an awesome rock and roll journalist I like the work of and who has written a whole book about Radiohead) wrote this article. The “article I needed” as Christopher put it: https://stevenhyden.substack.com/p/following-radioheads-weird-era-tour

Steven Hyden also talked about it all on his podcast: https://uproxx.com/indie/indiecast-radiohead-tour/

The Oasis article that was referenced: https://www.rollingstone.com/music/music-features/oasis-reunion-tour-essay-positive-masculinity-1235460198/

This is Colin Greenwood talking to Adam Buxton on the Adam Buxton podcast. Adam is on 256 episodes you know. Damn, fair play. Colin was ostensibly promoting his photography book “How To Disappear” (you know the book he signed for me when I met him at Rough Trade East and we talked about the 93 Feet East Radiohead gig I attended back in 2008; surely the CCCAH extended universe recalls me droning on and on about this … on or off-pod) but ended up talking a lot about Radiohead and low-key soft launching the 2025 tour news. The podcast wasn’t published until after the news dropped but still, I think it technically counts as the first public utterance confirming the tour that occurred outside the confines of Radiohead HQ: https://www.adam-buxton.co.uk/podcasts/82dyw29p3may2fa-dwb79-eycgn-fahgj-8yxba-c6hde-7lne6-5kthd-7a97e

This is Colin Greenwood talking to Brian Hiatt of Rolling Stone, also talking about his book, but then also fielding Radiohead questions in a much different manner to the Adam Buxton interview. An equally awesome interview, just a different vibe: https://www.rollingstone.com/music/music-features/colin-greenwood-interview-book-radiohead-reunion-tour-1235213867/

This is Colin Greenwood’s book, you should buy it if you like owning nice things: https://howtodisappearbook.com/

Of all the dozens and dozens of core texts, historical ephemera and other Radiohead-related media your boys have grown up poring over and studying over the years, I wanted to list one to close out these here shownotes. Because maybe someone has gone from Radiohead-ambivalent to Radiohead-curious by listening to us be nerds for an hour and a half. So this was one Christopher sent me right after the right concert. One that I must have watched twenty times about twenty years ago. Enjoy: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OcfI82NQGwQ

Also linking to The Most Gigantic Lying Mouth Of All Time as I still remember Christopher buying it so we could watch it together in his house around two decades ago and I have always wanted to rewatch it so just take this as a note-to-self lol: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lEzMFeOCnss

NOW YOU SEE ME: Reviewed!

You did it, you’re magic! That’s right! The third Now You See Me (aka Now You See Three aka Now You Don’t See Me So What Is It Exactly You’re Seeing Then) has come out this week so of course your boys are out here IN PODCAST LAND reviewing the first Now You See Me. It is pretty much ONLY SPOILERS. It is another Spoiler Special. We spoil the film early and then we continue to spoil specific scenes, big reveals, the whole shebang. Depending on where you’re at with the Now You See Me trilogy, proceed accordingly.

As we will similarly answer and respond to all mysteries and questions though, the real magic on the CCCAH this week is, as ever … the magic of … friendship. N’aww.

Listener, once upon a time … Boaz Yakin and Edward Ricourt came up with a story. Then Ed Solomon, Boaz Yakin and Edward Ricourt wrote a screenplay. And finally Louis Leterrier directed a film. That film, ladies and gentlemen? Now You See Me. Then about twelve years later I watched it on Dailymotion while Christopher went to the movies to see the third film on the big screen and then your boys did a podcast covering it all. Bada bing bada boom, abracadabra son!

You know what, just read the film’s Wikipedia instead of watching the film fuck it lol (if we didn’t do enough spoiling and plot talk for ya): https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Now_You_See_Me_(film)

Jesse Eisenberg spoke about the new film Now You See Me Now You Don’t on Jimmy Fallon and Jimmy Fallon found what Jesse Eisenberg was talking about very entertaining tbh: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AkXz_-paavg

For Roger Ebert dot com, Ignatiy Vishnevetsky gave “Now You See Me” 3 stars (out of 4) and the film was listed as a “Thriller”: https://www.rogerebert.com/reviews/now-you-see-me-2013

Special FAVE MOMENT FROM THE POD RECORD note for VIP read-the-whole-show-notes-members only: The bit where we talked over each other like three or four times … and then I looked up Michael Caine’s latest tweet and the *CLICKEDY CLACK CLICKEDY CLACK* sound of me typing on my keyboard just BOOMS in your ears. Christopher did warn me. But then he asked me to look something up so what are you gonna do? Swings and roundabouts … listener. Also I think we used the C word and didn't bleep it hahah!

S00E16 The Celebrity Traitors Finale: Special

THE CELEBRITY TRAITORS FINALE: Reviewed!

Remember when you were gassed about The Traitors? Well good, that means you’re ready for our episode CHOCK FULL OF SPOILERS! Because, you guessed it, we’re late to the party baby! And almost fashionably so, with my fresh haircut and Christopher’s new slicked back look (the curtains have been tamed today folks! Future patreon video-viewers get it) we’re out here being FAITHFUL to our listeners. One episode a week. And this one is a bit … special.

The Celebrity Traitors was a national phenomenon. So a week after it all ended, we’re here to hash it out. We love hashing things out! And this week it’s all things this first UK season of The Celebrity Traitors … but more specifically the finale, as both of us are fully aware of throughout the duration of the episode! Ahem. Like every roundtable, this episode is an emotional rollercoaster. I’m just hoping no one gets banished and we’re back to normal next week!

Watch the finale of The Celebrity Traitors here on iPlayer: https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/m002ltcc/the-celebrity-traitors-series-1-9-finale

Watch the finale of The Celebrity Traitors Uncloaked here: https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/m002lvf9/the-celebrity-traitors-uncloaked-series-1-9-finale

Watch a fun clip of all the cast reacting to the final roundtable here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LWROjyBYUv0

Apologies there is no supercut yet, on behalf of the BBC. But for now, I give you my favourite clip of a faithful reacting to who the traitors are from the big dog/national treasure himself: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZMbk3SR4eqU

Tweet of the week … from a few weeks back … shout out Noel getting the bag on Bake Off but making a bit more sense on Buzzcocks … which we’re all okay with being back and around still … yep, that sums up the feelings lol: https://x.com/therealnoelyg/status/1976403704518685022

Special FAVE MOMENT FROM THE POD RECORD note for VIP read-the-whole-show-notes-members only: The bit where we started doing impressions of Claudia chatting mad shit to the cast, could have kept doing that for a while!

We miss having guests on! Where are you at, future guests!? We hope you’re getting your pitches, scores and guesses ready. There are so many off-points to … accumulate (right Christopher?) and … archive (right Jonny?) so someone can … win the whole show at the end of time? Me, hopefully. Anyway lol we can’t wait to have you on. You, that’s right you. If you can prove you’ve read this far into the end of the show notes you are automatically invited on to the podcast as a special guest. Screenshot this portion of the shownotes and send it to us and we’ll organise the episode. First one to do it gets an episode! Hahahaha … if someone reminds us of this many years from now that will be even funnier to be fair.

S06E12 I've actually, mistakenly, just put in 'the news'

THE NEWSROOM SEASON 1 EPISODE 1: Reviewed!

Now you hear my brand spanking new and expensive recording equipment … now you don’t! Crying emojis for days.

This is like a comprehensive Aaron Sorkin episode, we cover everything. Well, in a very CCCAH way we cover everything. We comprehensively cover everything related to our feelings about Aaron Sorkin … in relation to this pilot, primarily. But we could not get round to my feelings on A Few Good Men or The West Wing in full or Christopher’s feelings on Moneyball or Molly’s Game in full. But like all good things with the CCCAH … we may or may not get round to them eventually. It is entirely at the discretion of the pitcher. Whoever has the pitching ball or throwing object in their adjudicated and cordoned-off area of pitching.

Don’t piss me off with your BBCs and Sky Atlantics and HBOs and Chat GPTs, just buy a thing for fucks sake. The extras (including the audio commentary referred to in the episode today and does not seem to be hiding anywhere online as a little audio file) are a thing to behold: https://hmv.com/store/film-tv/blu-ray/the-newsroom-the-complete-series

You can watch Aaron Sorkin’s first foray into television “Sports Night” in full on YouTube! The whole damn show is here in a nice and handy playlist: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLqXXN2_wcRIfIGD_tbwmhvr8WnDEE4zNS

You can watch the theme song of The Big Bang Theory here just like I did … something something everything everywhere sitcom characters on a couch, good. That was the gist of it. For what the show is, it didn’t suck: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hQjF0-T45dQ

You can watch, listen to and otherwise enjoy the theme song of The Newsroom here. I enjoyed it just fine. Christopher almost docked it a FULL ON POINT might be his hottest take of all time if he’d stuck to that: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9yulGicUzS4

Strictly theme song baby: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p_YIfXw77yQ

Speaking of, here is some juicy Strictly goss: https://www.independent.co.uk/arts-entertainment/tv/news/strictly-come-dancing-tess-daly-holly-willoughby-b2858011.html

The Guardian Review of Lily Allen’s new album is here. Is it more about music or David Harbour? Let’s all find out together and give it a read and maybe even listen to the album (that’s right, even if it continues to go unpitched): https://www.theguardian.com/music/2025/oct/24/lily-allen-west-end-girl-a-gobsmacking-autopsy-of-marital-betrayal

Jeff Daniels spoke about how much his speech in the opening scene of The Newsroom saved his career: https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/tv/tv-features/jeff-daniels-hbo-newsroom-speech-saved-career-1235033615/

Special FAVE MOMENT FROM THE POD RECORD note for VIP read-the-whole-show-notes-members only: When Christopher said “that could be a lie, I’m just saying it for “effect” like it “could” be you know hahaha! And of course the confusion between Integrated Development Environment and Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. Acronyms can be tricky man. We know all about that here on the CCCAH!

S06E11 As profound as a Kerouac novel

SOUTH PARK SEASON 27 EPISODE 3: Reviewed!

Welcome to the show, fans of off-points and points-off alike! You’ll never believe what we have in store for you today! Yet another edition of The Cultural Content Consumption Appraisal Hour! Another #REVIEW1THING edition. Season six. The most controversial of seasons. Famously, most podcasts last an average of six seasons before … joining up with Patreon and absolutely blowing up! So get excited now and stay excited, for the countdown to season 7 has well and truly begun.

What will Season 7 look like in the newest of new eras do you reckon? Let’s speculate in the shownotes. No one reads them so why not. Could it be a continuation of #REVIEW1THING that those who are NEW to the show clearly adore? Or a return to the classic #REVIEW2THINGS format that those who are TRUE to the franchise have been inexplicably missing? Or even a new fangled format no one could even predict. that those in a prospective future audience of millions (made up of those who are both NEW to us AND TRUE to us) would love!? Well, suffice to say, with all these spinning plates … it's hard to see a smooth journey to season 27 episode 3. But hey, that’s funny - that’s *exactly* where South Park got to for this episode we’re reviewing today. So stop worrying about the long term future of your favourite podcast and enjoy this current episode. Happy Halloween.

Watch this episode of South Park here: https://www.amazon.co.uk/South-Park-Season-27/dp/B0FJFKZZTZ

Josh Rosenberg wrote a really fun review of this episode for Esquire: https://www.esquire.com/uk/culture/tv/a65869536/south-park-season-27-episode-3-recap/

The boys over on the Blind Wave YouTube channel react to this episode in live time to the cool tune of 75k views … yep, we at HQ with our more considered post-game punditry, talking points and takes are being squeezed out by the LIVE REACTIONS BODY POLITIC: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OVglttUOieQ

The post-show discussion on the official South Park Reddit is thriving. So is the review-discourse around this episode! From YouTube and establishment magazines to reddit and unheralded podcasts such as ourselves. We are privileged to be smack dab in the middle of the zeitgeist: https://www.reddit.com/r/southpark/comments/1mvxpho/season_27_episode_3_sickofancy_post_episode/

Special FAVE MOMENT FROM THE POD RECORD note for VIP read-the-whole-show-notes-members only: When we thought we were done and the next pitch had been so carefully coordinated with diaries/schedules … only for one of us (who do you reckon?) to realise in the nick of time (quick, the ending theme just started!) that The Traitors (spoiler!!) might require a whole special instead. And so we pivot, literally interrupting the end theme to do so. Oh well. Not like we’re lacking for pitches. And not like we haven’t been trying (and failing? Failing better?) to improv together since a fabled journey to New York for improv classes about 20 years ago. Maybe the lesson here is … there are no accidents. No fuck ups even, pardon my language. Like jazz! As Miles Davis said: "It's not the note you play that's the wrong note—it's the note you play afterwards that makes it right or wrong." Maybe ... without the botched initial pitch ... we never would have thought we owed you a FULL Traitors special? Starting to think this "botch" might have been planned all along ...

PEEP SHOW SEASON 1 EPISODE 1: Reviewed!

You did it and you’re here you c**kmunchers! We are so happy to have you. It’s Thursday, you know what that means. If you’re in England, we hope you are getting through the day with all the rain and winds in one piece with us providing some fun audio content in your headphones. And if you’re not in England, I hope you’re laughing at us for moaning about the weather as per usual lol.

Here is our tweet of the week for some weather-based, yellow warning flavoured context: https://x.com/MetMattTaylor/status/1980858284442636386

Today we’re reviewing the pilot of the show Peep Show. As with most things these days, this pilot premiered on the television over twenty years ago. For fucks sake. We are somehow maintaining our stance of: we are not becoming a Celebrity Traitors recap podcast. That’s right. It’s twenty year old sitcoms for your boys! But don’t worry, we’ll spoil the whole thing and recap every moment for you. That’s right: Chris is doing notes, Chris is doing notes, everybody quiet cos Chris is doing notes! And then we’ll do a sidebar on the Traitors and also spoil that shit for ya hahahah new catchphrase just dropped: The CCCAH Spoils Everything!

So Peep Show. You can watch the pilot here on Netflix (sorry Channel 4, RIP): https://www.netflix.com/watch/70216232

The audio commentary by David Mitchell, Robert Webb, Jesse Amstrong and Sam Bain can be found here. This is a link to the first video out of three but you will find parts two and three on the YouTube channel/in the related videos: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wbxgoH_CMK4

This is the aforementioned four lads discussing the show last year live on the BFI stage. This event should have won all the Fomo Awards last year … how do those work again? Gotta start prepping for the 2025 edition from now haha: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DwO1HP7ZS-c

There is (because of course there is) a fun recap podcast for Peep Show with the great name Podcast Secrets of the Pharoahs and this is their episode recapping the pilot: https://podcasts.apple.com/gb/podcast/s1-ep1-warring-factions/id1445150030?i=1000424868838

There are so many articles about the legacy of Peep Show that have been published in the last few years especially. A lot of cultural appraisals of the show, which we of course appreciate. This is a personal fave of mine. It’s an oral appraisal, of sorts! Love an oral appraisal (of sorts): https://www.theguardian.com/tv-and-radio/2023/sep/18/the-scripts-were-the-funniest-things-id-ever-read-the-stars-of-peep-show-look-back-20-years-later

BBC RADIO 6 HUW STEPHENS 1ST OCTOBER SHOW: Reviewed!

Or HOW I LEARNED TO STOP WORRYING AND NEARLY REVIEW … THE CONCEPT OF TURNING ON THE RADIO FOR A BIT?

Well well well dear listeners and future Patreon and/or YouTube subscribers. You who visit our website cccappraisalhour.show on a weekly basis and continue to draft an e-mail to us at cccappraisalhour@gmail.com waiting for the day when you’re ready to say “long time first time” and holler at your boys. You’re in for a treat!

Today is an episode about what it is in 2025 to discover new art, new music. Much like an important philosophical thesis on the nature of art in the context of the age of consumerism, we boil it down to a few cogent conclusions: understanding yourself is key. With this said, occasionally pushing yourself into unfamiliar or uncomfortable territory is key for growth. A lifelong (and sometimes annoying!) friend who won’t shut up about trying something new is a fun way to engage with life and the aforementioned pushing yourself and is certainly much better than AI. And finally: sometimes turn on the radio. But hey, this episode is also just us chatting absolute bollocks as per. Enjoy.

Huw Stephens is a DJ and on the 1st of October presented an edition of his show on BBC Radio 6, featuring an interview with Kieran Hebden and William Tyler. As of the posting of this podcast, there are 15 more days during which you can listen to it on BBC Sounds too: https://www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/m002jvbz

Here is another show by Huw Stephens (available for 14 more days) featuring Robert Plant’s edition of “The Lyrics That Floored Me” and Bob Dylan’s “Masters of War” as mentioned on our show today: https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/m002jv7w

A fun interview with Huw Stephens talking about music discovery can be listened to here: https://byta.com/howwelisten/podcast/a-conversation-about-music-discovery/

Kieran Hebden and William Tyler’s album 41 Longfield Street Late ‘80s can be listened to here: https://music.apple.com/us/album/41-longfield-street-late-80s/1809421971

As it was the first song that prompted the opening of the Shazam app and one that both your intrepid co-hosts enjoyed, it is definitely worth a link in the ol’ shownotes! This is "Stitches” by HAAi (feeling like Huw Stephens now, introducing them like this lol maybe the CCCAH should be more of a radio show …): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QOENoX1c0VI

As I can’t seem to stop bringing up his chat with Ezra Klein, let me update the Kyle Chayka references with a talk he gave at the Verbier Art Summit earlier this year covering all the topics! You know the ones, our favourite ones. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i3rOZwmih7U&t=16s

Watch the first episode of the Celebrity Traitors here. It seems like this is the year we’re all watching together, finally: https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/m002kk0d/the-celebrity-traitors-series-1-episode-1

Watch the first episode of Strictly here too! I’m telling you! Might as well: https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/m002k7dp/strictly-come-dancing-series-23-week-1

Welcome welcome film fans! Fans of movies about making movies! Are you also fans of documentaries about making movies? I know some of you are even fans of podcasts about making podcasts (shout out our K-Pop Demon Hunters episode lol, iykyk) because I am. THE STUDIO SEASON 1 EPISODE 1: Reviewed!

It’s Thursday morning, you know what that means! It means it’s showtime baby. Let’s start the show. The show that reviews one thing. And only one thing, ever, really. And what is that one thing, ever, really? OUR OWN SELVES, REALLY, AND OUR FRIENDSHIP! As Cat Burns taught me on the Jamie Laing podcast: all relationships are but mirrors anyway. And isn’t that all that art is anyway? A process of reviewing YOUR SELF or YOUR OWN THOUGHTS AND FEELINGS on a certain subject or in certain scenarios etc etc. Sure, whatever, anyway, this isn’t the thirty second game. These are the show notes. Let’s get show-notey. It’s a podcast about a tv show about making movies *movie mogul voice*! What an opening paragraph this is. For the true to this rather than the new to this, I would think.

So what is that one thing we're reviewing today? Today it is Seth Rogen's new show The Studio. Another pilot special. Season 6. The season of pilots. That makes sense. And it's the season of current stuff, to be fair. It has been a rip roaring start to the new era, don't you think? Nothing but pilots. It's like pilot season here on the CCCAH. Pitch us your pilot if you're working on something, we'll probably review it at this rate.

AMERICAN MOVIE: Reviewed!

Our BRITISH PODCAST is reviewing AMERICAN MOVIE today! And it’s not just any American Movie … it’s THE American Movie directed by Chris Smith and released in 1999. One of the 1,000 Greatest Movies Ever Made according to the New York Times. Will we one day feature in the 1,000 Greatest Podcasts Ever Made? Or will the chronicling of our rise and fall as a podcast empire on an award winning podcast called WHATEVER HAPPENED TO CHRISTOPHER AND JEFFREY be the podcast that features on the New York Times list? Seems slightly more likely lol. Ooh maybe we should make that podcast ourselves! A parody radio-drama type thing. Like Serial but instead of important, it will be stupendously stupid. Yes, that sounds like us.

Anyway, we are really getting into the weeds of the Review One Thing MID-SEASON … as we as a podcast-lovin’-community transition from summer (say it ain’t so, summer don’t go!) to Autumn. Just as good a time to be listening to (and producing) podcasts! So whether Review 1 Thing devolves into a Review 8 things carnival or solidifies into a concisely formatted and guest-friendly operation that rivals Off Menu, let’s enjoy Season 6 in all it’s unique glory while it is here.

Special FAVE MOMENT FROM THE POD RECORD note for VIP read-the-whole-show-notes-members only: The bit when we finally crystallised what off points mean in terms of their accumulation and how many you need to accrue before you can hand off the silver ball of pitching and what happens when the golden ball of pitching is resplendently archived on the website https://cccappraisalhour.show … obviously, duh! A thoroughly unique points system finally sorted jeez, only took us six seasons. How does that sound, Jonny?

The Cultural Content Consumption Appraisal Hour
S06E05 Christopher completely vindicated

THE PAPER SEASON 1 EPISODE 1: REVIEWED!

Good morning CCCAH fans! It is the hour and the hour is upon us. It is time to culturally consume and then to appraise content. It is a ritual, six seasons in, really. And as we amend the ritual to stay current and up to date with the times (#Review1Thing is thriving) we ask you to join us and watch along! Let’s slay queens, let’s eat that, let’s smash it and let’s start the show.

How are we feeling about #Review1Thing so far anyway, show fans? Anyone feeling completely vindicated yet? Speaking of complete (strong, no?) vindication: stay tuned to see what Christopher is gloating about in the show title lol.

So has anyone ever heard of a show called The Office? Damn, that’s wild. Neither have we. Sounds boring. Well a quarter of a century since (that’s right, you read that right) Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant’s mockumentary first aired on the BBC, the legacy and the lineage continues with yet another Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant produced vehicle. And still, as usual, my main question is: wait, do these lads even talk to each other anymore!? Crying emojis. Four of them, even.

This week we are reviewing season 1 episode 1 of The Paper.

You can watch the pilot episode of The Paper here: https://www.nowtv.com/watch/the-paper/iYEQZ1vXy2NqAm8tAkLyQh/seasons/1/episodes/pilot-episode-1/A5EK5anvvYyjnA4xnKagN

You can watch Greg Daneisl, creator of the new show The Paper, talk to his friend Conan O’Brien on the popular podcast Conan O’Brien Needs A Friend about all sorts of things but mainly his life and career and their friendship: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3f0cyQzOK-A

Here is Mike Schur (co-creator of and showrunner for Parks and Recreation) who was last year commenting on the new Office spin off, which was at that point untitled: https://nypost.com/2024/11/20/entertainment/mike-schur-reacts-to-office-reboot-mose-schrute-reprisal/

You can read a Guardian review of the first season of The Paper by Hannah J Davies here (not the nicest): https://www.theguardian.com/tv-and-radio/2025/sep/05/domhnall-gleeson-the-paper-review-us-office-spinoff-dunder-mifflin

You can read a BBC review of the first season of The Paper by Caryn James here (slightly nicer): https://www.bbc.co.uk/culture/article/20250902-the-paper-review

THE FOUR SEASONS (1981): REVIEWED!

WARNING: WE SPOIL THE WHOLE MOVIE!

But besides that, it’s a chill episode. It warms up as it goes, maybe starts off more chill than usual lol but it definitely gets warmer as we get going. Much like the movie we review. And much like friendships in general.

Now the question this week, really, is: are you really ready for the #ReviewOneThing era to begin in earnest? Well stay tuned then lol because we’re almost there. We’re still finding our groove, sure, finding our feet as it were. But we’re getting there. Week to week diving more and more deeply into the art we criticise and love in equal measure.

This week is another movie week here on the progrum. The Four Seasons was written and directed by Alan Alda in 1981 and Tina Fey always meant for us to go back and discover it when she adapted it for her new series, right!? Right? And who among you are actually doing the work and doing your homework? That’s right, barely any of you! So of course we will do it for you. Of course we follow up the Cat Burns reviewing episode (super trendy singer) with this shit, right? Could we BE being any more triple-C AH, right now or what!?

Sit back and relax and don’t come to the shownotes for the scores, check out the website for the scores at cccappraisalhour.show

You can find The Four Seasons (1981) here: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Four-Seasons-Alan-Alda/dp/B01MS6EYM3

Roger Ebert and Gene Siskel, famous movie reviewers, talked about The Four Seasons in an episode of their television show talking movies from back i nthe 1980s. Check out the first seven minutes of said episode here: https://siskelebert.org/?p=7409

Nathan Rabin, famous movie reviewer, wrote a review about The Four Seaons here: https://thedissolve.com/features/forgotbusters/544-the-agonizing-dullness-of-alan-aldas-the-four-seas/

Special FAVE MOMENT FROM THE POD RECORD note for VIP read-the-whole-show-notes-members only: When we really tried to talk about the amazingness of the one other time we had a double-homer draw episode and I still don’t think we conveyed it with the appropriate amount of awe. We were more aww shucks and we should have been more shock and awe, you know!?

EARLY TWENTIES BY CAT BURNS: REVIEWED!

Listen Cat Burns ok (a “you did it, you’re here” to you and yours) I know you’re wicked and you’re doing your thing. And the lack of capital letters is your intentional choice as a gen z artist and I respect that. But we here at the cccah and in the cccahc do things a little differently, ok? We capitalise EVERY piece of art we’re reviewing in the first line of the shownotes. It’s just the deal, ok? It’s to catch the eye and be clear and just, yeah … forgive us ok? In every other reference in this show note (and the show itself, no matter how begrudgingly) we will refer to the lack of capitals you have consciously chosen in your debut album title. I am curious. Will this continue throughout what I hope is a long and fruitful career? Or will it flame out, like so many gen z innovations seem to do? Only time will tell.

We hope you enjoy today/s episode that answers the question so many loyal listeners have been asking for ages, namely, whether we have ever before had a (*POTENTIAL SPOILERS TO FOLLOW IN COMPLETING THIS RHETORICAL QUESTION*) draw episode consisting of two homers? Damn that’s wild.

Special FAVE MOMENT FROM THE POD RECORD note for VIP read-the-whole-show-notes-members only: When Christopher almost admitted to giving something a 0 in our 1-5 score system but then refused to admit what for but then admitted it was a joke but then also maybe it wasn’t. Good stuff. Also Christopher refusing to go viral and specify who sucked at All Points East. Lame. We’re ready for beef man, we’re six seasons deep. Let's go. Off Menu podcast, where you attttttt???
