Apologies! No video episode this week - just audio! Still worth the listen as Dr. Matthew Scott and I dive into why motor imagery is such a powerful tool for strength athletes, and give meaningful ways on how to use it.

Absolutely loved filming this episode with David Woolson. David is an accomplished coach and powerlifter who has both helped athletes get to the world stage alongside competing on it himself. In this episode David dives into how he overcame adversity after bombing out of two meets in a row, alongside a discussion on how fatigue isn't the enemy. The big 3-0! Thank you to everyone who has listened so far to these, I am super grateful to have you all as an audience. In this episode I sit down with a close friend of mine Blake Barrett, who is one of the hardest working powerlifters I know. From competing at worlds to tearing his groin at nationals, Blake is no stranger to success and adversity, and in this episode we dive into both of those things alongside what HE believes are they keys to longevity in the sport.

This was actually such a fun episode to film. I got to flex my motor learning and motor control muscles here and explain how we can use concepts from laboratory tests on sequence learning and incorporate them into motor imagery / visualization techniques in practice. In this episode I get to sit down with a good friend of mine Dac Cardona and discuss a lot of different topics within the sport of powerlifting. We start with a discussion about the differences between untested and tested powerlifting federations and how weigh ins should be managed in each. Afterwards we dive into a great discussion about developing soft skills and what it means to communicate effectively as both a coach and an athlete. If you want to reach out to Dac about any of these things his links can be found below! Dac’s

This was such a fun episode to film with so much information provided by Marcellus. In our conversation we unpack how he was able to manage scaling his athlete roster from 30, to 50, to now 80 active clients - without losing the quality of his coaching along the way. Additionally, he outlines some of the things he has learned in his experience handling at high level meets, and how they can translate to competitions at the local level. Overall a quality conversation with a more than quality man. Appreciate you mucho Marcellus!

Was a great time having a long time friend like Sean on the podcast. Here we sit down and I get to ask him some more nuanced questions about tertiary deadlift days, a return to hyperspecificity, and we dive into a more nuanced conversation about how athletes need to sometimes just try harder. If you enjoyed this episode, please rate the podcast and follow on your listening platform of choice. It goes a long way in getting these episodes in more people's ears!

This was a great conversation I got to have with one of the founders of a very cool gym, Allegiate, while I was out in Los Angeles. After playing football at USC, Cody and a few of his teammates decided to bring collegiate strength and conditioning to the mainstream - opening Allegiate along the way. Now with three locations and plans to expand even further his teams success is no question. Here he breaks down a ton about the way he has done this, what it takes to do good marketing as a coach, alongside how he was able to get a day pass to his gym to Alex Hormozi.

Bit of a rant here as I blabber on about why programming multiple singles within a single primary day could be beneficial for a strength athlete. Shoutout to Alex cano on this one, as I got inspiration from him. He’s used this for multiple clients and it seems to work wonders, and with the few I’ve experimented this on it seems to be cruising as well!

This episode was really fun to film, as I get to explore the changes to our central nervous system due to strength training as I do a review on, “Corticospinal Responses following strength training: a systematic review and meta analysis”. Throughout this we find out that resistance training primarily decreases inhibition - releasing the “brakes” on our neuromuscular system!
If you like this type of episode, please let me know. I would love to dive into the literature more often here and share findings to relate them to powerlifting!

Great episode here, and honestly I think this is one of the best conversations I've had on this podcast. Deklan brings a different perspective to hypertrophy training that I think all powerlifters need, and it definitely shifted my mentality about programming both main movements and accessories in the sport.

It's been a while since we have been able to upload a video, but this one was worth the wait. In this episode I talk to Dr. Sean Harris, a physical therapist and owner of Rise Gym, Texas, about his research on chronic low back pain. If you are a coach, competitive powerlifter, or active listener, this is going to be a must listen.

This was such a fun episode to film. Steve is someone I have looked up to in the powerlifting space for a long time, not only for his great coaching, but also his ability to break down complex coaching concepts for the masses. Here we discuss why creating educational content is so important for coaches to do, and the strategies he has used to grow his platform along the way. Definitely a great listen!
