In today’s episode of The Real Jesus Experience, we’re sitting down with Barko Engelbrecht—a man whose identity was built on the rugby field… until life forced him to ask who he really was without it.
Barko grew up in South Africa in a culture where rugby isn’t just a sport—it’s a proving ground. From a young age, he chased the next level, the next team, the next opportunity. And while there was ambition and discipline on the outside, there was also something deeper driving him: the need to be seen, to be enough, to matter. For Barko, rugby wasn’t just something he did—it became something he was.
And then, a serious ankle injury didn’t just interrupt a season—it shook the foundation of his life. The thing he trusted to give him purpose and direction suddenly couldn’t hold him up anymore. But in that painful turning point, God began to do what only God can do: meet him in the loss, confront what had taken the place of Christ, and open a door Barko never expected.
In Part 1 of this conversation, Barko shares how the pressure, the pursuit, and the performance-driven identity eventually led to a breaking point—and how a simple moment at a church camp became the start of a real, personal surrender to Jesus. This is a story about identity, faith in hard times, and the mercy of God when He lovingly takes away what we’ve been leaning on… so He can become what we stand on.
Let’s jump into the conversation with Barko Engelbrecht.

Thanks for watching the video Barko Engelbrecht: From Performance to Purpose—Finding Identity in Jesus (Testimony) | EP#56 (Pt 1)
In the first half of Owen Gray’s story, we heard how everything he thought his life would be—basketball, dreams of playing at the next level, a clear path forward—was suddenly interrupted. A diagnosis, a surgery, and a hard reset on his future forced him to wrestle with who he really was apart from the game, and what it actually meant to know and follow Jesus.
In this second half of the conversation, he opens up about what was happening underneath the surface: the slow drift of his heart, chasing opportunity, running at an unsustainable pace, and realizing that success on the outside doesn’t always match what’s going on with God on the inside.
Owen also shares how the Lord began to redirect his steps—calling him to lay down some things he loved, to say “no” to good opportunities, and to step into a new kind of work he never would’ve chosen on his own. It’s a story of surrender, realignment, and discovering that Jesus is better than any platform or position.

Thanks for watching the video Owen Gray: Choosing Obedience Over Opportunity (Testimony) | EP #55
In today’s episode of The Real Jesus Experience, we’re sitting down with Owen Gray—a young man whose entire future changed in a single moment.
Owen grew up in church, with parents who genuinely loved Jesus and modeled what obedient Christian life looks like. He prayed the prayer, he believed in God, and he thought he knew Jesus. But like so many of us, there was something on the throne of his heart that didn’t belong there. For Owen, that something was basketball. After winning a national championship in his homeschool league and having a real shot at playing college ball, his identity, his dreams, and his plans were all wrapped up in the game.
Then, as a freshman athlete, Owen was diagnosed with a disorder that completely derailed the future he thought he was building. In an instant, the path he’d worked for and dreamed about was gone. But even in that loss, God was at work—opening doors Owen never would have chosen, and leading him into a deeper, real, personal relationship with Jesus that he didn't know existed.
In Part 1 of this conversation, Owen shares how that diagnosis shattered his plans, exposed the idol in his heart, and became the starting point of a much greater story—one where Jesus wasn’t just part of his life, but became his life. Let’s jump into the conversation with Owen Gray.

In the first part of her story, Jennifer shared what it was like growing up in a home full of expectations and rules — how she learned to survive by staying small, performing for love, and keeping quiet. That pressure eventually led to rebellion, heartbreak, and rock bottom.
But the story didn’t end there.
In this second half of the conversation, Jennifer opens up about what came next—divorce, a cancer diagnosis, and the hard, slow work of healing. She talks about what it meant to start over as a single mom, how God began to soften her heart, and the surprising places where love and grace started to break through.
This isn’t a neat and tidy story. It’s a real one.
If you’ve ever felt like too much damage has been done—or like you’re too far gone to begin again—Jennifer’s story is a reminder that God meets us in the middle of the mess, and His love is still safe, still healing, and still available.

What do you do when you’ve tried everything to be good—but it’s still not “good” enough?
In Part 1 of this Christian testimony, Jennifer Collins opens up about her early life growing up in a religious home where church was expected, emotions were avoided, and love often felt conditional. She shares her experience navigating faith in Christ without ever really knowing Him, her struggle with identity, and the deep wounds left by a family culture that prized performance over connection.
As Jennifer talks through her story—from childhood heartbreak to early rebellion, abortion, divorce, and multiple suicide attempts—she reflects honestly on what it’s like to be struggling with faith and wondering where God is in it all.
Through it all, you’ll hear the beginnings of a Christian journey that doesn’t follow the script—but still reveals a God who never stopped pursuing her.
If you’ve ever wrestled with shame, searched for acceptance, or felt like giving up, Jennifer’s story will remind you that you’re not alone—and that even in the mess, God’s word, God’s timing, and God’s grace are still at work.

In this first part of his story, Doug sits down with Chad to talk about where it all started—small-town Kansas, a complicated family history with church, and a whole lot of running from God. Doug shares what it was like growing up trying to live up to his siblings, how rebellion became his identity, and how things spiraled into partying, drugs, and even a near-fatal overdose.
But that’s not where the story ends.
Even when Doug had given up on himself, God hadn’t. Through some wild and unexpected moments—including a powerful spiritual encounter in a parked car with the woman who’d become his wife—Doug started to realize that Jesus never stopped chasing him.
This episode is raw, honest, and full of hope. If you’ve ever felt like you’ve messed up too much or gone too far, Doug’s journey will remind you that no one is ever beyond the reach of grace.

Only God can take what was meant for harm and use it for healing.
In this powerful testimony, Matt Delp shares how God stepped into his story of childhood sexual abuse, religious confusion, and shame—not with condemnation, but with compassion and a redemptive purpose. Though Matt once believed God didn’t truly like him, the Lord proved otherwise by placing key people in his life—a faithful youth pastor, a godly wife, and others who helped carry him through the darkest valleys.
This is not just a story about pain—it’s about the God who heals, restores, and walks with us through suffering. Through the power of Jesus, the comfort of the Holy Spirit, and the truth of God's Word, Matt discovered a new identity grounded in grace—not guilt.
👉 And in Part Two, you’ll see how the very path Matt walked—full of brokenness, healing, and surrender—became the foundation for the ministry God had already prepared for him. What once felt like defeat would become part of his divine calling.
If you're walking through trauma, confusion, or questions about your worth, let this story remind you: God is near to the brokenhearted—and He often sends people as vessels of His love.
Jesus is the Healer. Grace is real. And God is always working—even when we don’t see it.

Welcome back to The Real Jesus Experience! We’re diving into part two of our conversation with Galen Blom — a man whose passion for living out the Gospel has had a real impact on communities and churches.
In this episode, we talk about how God used Galen to plant churches and spark authentic growth — not through flashy programs or big marketing pushes, but by simply being the Church right where people are.
You’ll also hear about some of the challenges along the way — including the time he was actually called ‘dangerous’ in seminary just for thinking differently about how to reach people for Jesus.
And maybe most powerful of all is Galen’s honesty about the cost of leadership. When he realized that pouring into other leaders had started to pull him away from his own family, he made the hard but faithful decision to step back — putting his marriage and kids first, just as God calls us to.
Today, Galen continues to pour into others through a curriculum he helped develop at HNW — designed to equip believers to bring the Kingdom of Heaven to people who may never come to church, but desperately need Jesus.
This episode is packed with Biblical truth and practical wisdom that I believe can truly encourage and challenge all of us. So here we go — let’s dive into part two with Galen Blom.

Growing up in Orange, TX, Calvin was a promising track star with a bright future ahead. However, life took an unforeseen turn when he chose to support his pregnant girlfriend by selling drugs, abandoning his athletic dreams.
