Jammie South (The Banshee’s Bakehaus / Jammie Cupcake) Well Seasoned Librarian Podcast: Season 16 Episode 17

Well Seasoned Librarian Podcast: Season 16 Episode 17

Guest: Jammie South (The Banshee’s Bakehaus / Jammie Cupcake)

Jammie South, known to many as Jammie Cupcake, is the creative force and head baker behind The Banshee’s Bakehaus — a gothic-inspired dessert brand based in Orange County, California. Her work blends dark romantic aesthetics with decadent flavors, creating desserts that are as hauntingly beautiful as they are delicious.

Balancing whimsy and wickedness, Jammie also brings her sweeter side to life through her Jammie Cupcake brand, which celebrates pastel nostalgia and vintage charm. Beyond baking, she’s a performer, event curator, and community advocate, often uniting art, history, and local makers through immersive themed events.

From vintage-Victorian pop-ups to burlesque-baking mashups, Jammie’s mission is to craft experiences that enchant all the senses — proving that dessert can be both an art form and a story.

Emily Maxson (Real Food Every Day) Well Seasoned Librarian Podcast Season 16 Episode 2

Author Bio: I cooked my way to better health, and you can too.

Hi, I’m Emily Maxson, a trained chef and food lover. In my late 20s, I received a life-changing diagnosis of a digestive disease after severe symptoms and emergency surgery. I spent 18 months following a strict diet plan, eliminating grains, gluten, lactose, refined sugars and processed foods, forcing me to rethink how I cooked. I got back into the kitchen using ingredients I had never worked with before to find new ways to make favorite recipes. This change in eating allowed my gut to heal and my body to thrive. I learned firsthand the transformative power of food used as medicine.

For over a decade, I have been developing simple nutrient-rich recipes to share with anyone who is looking to improve their health through food. You don’t have to struggle with a digestive disease to experience the benefits. While most of my recipes are designed to focus on gut health, they were created for anyone who wants to eat simple, delicious food and feel great.

Food is my passion. I am inspired by both the art and the science of the culinary world. I enjoy being in my kitchen creating, testing and writing recipes to share with you. I believe that cooking food at home is one of the best things you can do for your health, and it doesn’t have to be complicated.

Thank you for stopping by. I hope you enjoy your time here. Happy cooking!

The Well-Seasoned Librarian: Mixing Cookbooks and Conversation
Heidi Herman (The Hidden Vegetables Cookbook: 90 Tasty Recipes for Veggie-Averse Adults) Well Seasoned Librarian Podcast Season 15 Episode 19

Author Bio: Heidi Herman was born and raised in Central Illinois, but her passion and a common theme in her writing is her Icelandic heritage. She spent more than thirty years in the telecommunications industry in a variety of roles that gave her a broad understanding of business, which she later applied to entrepreneurship, first in a small restaurant and later in a boutique publishing company.

Her writing career started with the inspiration of her mother's example. In the winter of 2012, her mother, Íeda Jónasdóttir Herman, published a childhood memoir, which featured some of Iceland's folklore. Heidi was immersed in childhood memories of the Scandinavian legends, lore, and imaginative stories. The myth of Iceland's troll-like Christmas characters - Jólasveinar - sparked the imagination of many readers and led to Heidi writing her first book, "The Legend of the Icelandic Yule Lads." It was followed by two more books on Icelandic folklore: "The Guardians of Iceland and Other Icelandic Folk Tales" and "The Icelandic Yule Lads Mayhem at the North Pole."

In 2017, she co-authored an Icelandic cookbook, "Homestyle Icelandic Cooking for American Kitchens" with her mother, Íeda Jónasdóttir Herman, which won a US category in The Gourmand World Cookbook Awards that year. Heidi published her debut novel, "Her Viking Heart", in 2018, and it was named the 2018 Foreword INDIES Book of the Year Gold Winner - Romance Category. Her motivational work, "On with The Butter! Spread More Living onto Everyday Life" was inspired when Heidi worked to complete her mother's final work, "Never Too Late." Íeda Jónasdóttir Herman (1925-2019) was 94 years old and had completed a year of new experiences to prove a person is never too old to enjoy life. That message, along with her mother's example, led Heidi to write this new motivational book with ideas and encouragement on how anyone can find those activities and experiences.

She had authored seven books in five genres, with a new cookbook slated to be released September 16, 2025. Today, she continues to write between time spent traveling, sharing Icelandic culture plus a number of hobbies and interests. When she's not on the go, she is usually found cooking something up in the kitchen.

Stephanie Loaiza (30-Minute Meals with Six Sisters' Stuff) Well Seasoned Librarian Season 15 Episode 17

Hello and welcome, library faithful! This is Season 15, Episode 17 of The Well Seasoned Librarian Podcast.

Today, host Dean Jones is sitting down with a powerhouse of the food world: Stephanie Loaiza. Stephanie is a mom to five, a USC Master’s candidate, and, along with her sisters, the co-founder of Six Sisters' Stuff—the go-to resource for making family dinner easy and amazing.

Stephanie created Six Sisters' Stuff in 2011 as a way to share those cherished recipes she grew up eating. That simple idea has grown into ten bestselling cookbooks, with a brand new one just out: 30-Minute Meals with Six Sisters' Stuff.

From White Chicken Chili to Easy Homemade Rolls, Stephanie’s passion is connecting people through food. She’ll share her secrets to simplifying dinner, building a thriving community, and managing a family in Southern California that includes twin girls and three boys.

It’s all on the menu, right here, right now, on The Well Seasoned Librarian Podcast!

The Well-Seasoned Librarian: Mixing Cookbooks and Conversation
Maureen Abood (Lebanese Baking: More Than 100 Recipes for Sweet and Savory Baked Goods.) Well Seasoned Librarian Podcast Season 15, Episode 16

Welcome back to The Well Seasoned Librarian! I’m your host, Dean Jones, and you’re listening to Season 15, Episode 16.

For years, we've talked about how food, history, and culture all intersect on the page, and today, we’re diving into a topic that is as delicious as it is deeply personal: the rich, sweeping traditions of Lebanese baking.

Our guest today is Maureen Abood, a second-generation Lebanese American, a longtime food writer, and the IACP finalist author of the beloved cookbook Rose Water & Orange Blossoms.

We're here to celebrate the publication of her brand-new book, out today, October 7th, 2025: Lebanese Baking: More Than 100 Recipes for Sweet and Savory Baked Goods.

In this beautiful, authoritative compendium, Maureen offers home cooks the very first English-language cookbook of its kind—a definitive guide to Lebanese baked traditions in all their forms. From savory delights like Kale and Feta Fatayer and Za’atar Croissants to sweet temptations like Baklawa Diamonds, Chocolate Pistachio Knafeh Bars, and the wonderfully named Pomegranate Mousse Cake with Lime Icing.

Maureen’s voice has become a trusted guide for seeking authentic Middle Eastern flavors, and today, she’ll be sharing the stories, the family history, and the simple techniques that bring these more than 100 recipes—and the heart of Lebanese baking—to life in your own kitchen.

It is a true pleasure to welcome her to the show. We now take you to the conversation.
