Words:
I know I’ve been overwhelmed
Confused
Hurt
Over and over again
People hurt me
Situations surrounded me
I suffered
In pain, parts of me were buried
Parts that knew how to navigate life
Feel
Trust
Love and enjoy this existence
They were buried in pain
I felt emotions that I didn’t know how to deal with
Emotions of abandonment
Fear
Terror
Shame
Betrayal
I felt the weight of the expectations
The pressure
Loss
Or maybe the life of my ancestors got hard, which I feel the effects of
I was presented with these things
Things I didn’t know how to deal with
And so, I stored them
Deep inside
Buried at the back of my mind
I stored them to survive
And right now, I understand that I feel overwhelmed and weighed down
Like life isn’t worth living
Like there are so many things for me to overcome, I don’t know if I have the strength to overcome them
I see that
I see that’s how I feel
And I’m going to start with where I’m at
It’s not where I want to be
This may be all I know
But I’m going to start with where I’m at
Right here
And right here I’m starting by coming back online
Because there’s a bigger picture at play
The plans that God has for me
The plans for my destiny
Are bigger than the things that have come against me
The things that have weighed down on me
My darkest day
Wasn’t my last day
So, I’m coming back online
Even though I’ve had moments that I’ve felt alone
And like I’ve had no one to hold me
I’m coming back online
I’m opening up to being held now
The pain that I’ve felt, I open these places up
To be seen,
To be heard,
To be held now
To be held by God
To be held by myself
To be held in community
To be held in process
The places within me that have felt pain, I open you up
To see you now
To hear you now
To hold you now
And in holding you, I choose to let go of anger
Anger against myself
For not standing up for me
For being quiet when I should have spoken
For allowing my boundaries to be crossed
I choose to let go of the anger
Anger against them
For abusing me when I deserve respect
For abandoning me when I needed care
For talking down on me when I’m extremely valuable
I choose to let go of anger
Anger against it all
For feeling alone when I needed someone to hold me
For feeling confused when I wanted to make sense of things
For feeling lost when I wanted to feel at home
I choose to let go of anger
And in letting go of anger I’ve held onto for days
Months
Years
Decades
I turn towards coming back online
By opening my heart to hearing the hope filled plans God has for me
I’m coming back online
By connecting to people who can care for me, even if I’ve never known it
I’m coming back online
By embracing the small wins I can achieve each day, even if my life feels like a mess
I’m coming back online
Step by step
Surrounded by God’s grace and his ability to believe the best about me
I’m coming back online
And as I take things step by step
One win will eventually turn into a rhythm
A rhythm of hope
A rhythm of love
A rhythm of peace
A rhythm of joy
My life is made for rhythm
So, I’m coming back online
So that I can have what I’m made for
Because I’m made to shine
I’m made to rise
I’m made to overcome all that’s weighed me down
So, I’m coming back online
Even if I don’t know what the future holds
I know the one who holds it can make me whole
So, I’m coming back online
Because I choose to see the story
Beginning to end
I choose to see my happy ending
I’m coming back online
I’m seen
I’m known
There’s someone here to hold me
So it’s safe to rise
I choose to come back online
