Zelena žolna je zelo lepa ptica. Vendar naj vas njene bleščeče barve ne zavedejo. Njeno glasno trkanje po deblih napolnjuje ves gozd, še posebno takrat, ko teše svoje gnezdo. Perje, ki ji pokriva telo, je zeleno in rumeno, zgornji del njene glave pa je živordeč, zdi se, kot da bi nosila kapuco. Obroba okrog njenih oči je črna, del pod kljunom je bele barve. Skrito orožje zelene žolne se skriva prav v kljunu. To je njen jezik, ki je za tako majhno ptico zelo dolg, meri deset centimetrov, to je kar tretjina njene telesne višine. Ko ga ne uporablja, ga zvije in vpotegne v cev v glavi, ki živali omogoča, da ga tako “pospravi”. Cev poteka znotraj okoli celotne žolnine glave. Več o zeleni žolni pa v tokratni epizodi Zverinic.
