This is my view of Canada. Several years ago, I began writing essays based on the Canadian facts and people described on a t-shirt that I had! I’ve taken these essays, added some historical facts and new discoveries and now present them as I am known to do by friends and family - as a tangent-laden, fireside chat story. Please enjoy!

Canada, As I See It
#91 - Catchin' Up and Make-Work Generator
Here we are – the 2nd Annual Live Broadcast.   I should have known that something would happen. The show actually went off pretty well. I discovered after the show that the audio from my microphone wasn't really coming through well on the broadcast. What actually happens is that when the show is over, I have the option to download it, and post it like a regular episode – and THAT is when I heard the audio anomaly. Fortunately, I made a local recording WHILE I was broadcasting live (that's something I learned to do from my years in radio...long ago). I have taken the GOOD audio, and have married it with the rest of the file that I downloaded of the live broadcast.   Please enjoy the show!   I'd like to know how you're listening to me. Are you using Podbean's app? Do you listen from my site (whorpole.ca)? Or do you use one of the many podcast platforms that you can listen to this podcast on. I encourage you to contact me at AsISeeIt@whorpole.ca – and let me know - I'll mention you on the show (unless you don't want me to) – and you'll forever be able to say, “I got James to say my name, way back before he was a super celebrity!” If YOU want to be a part of MY podcast, send me a recording of you saying,“This podcast is produced by the Fireside Chat Club of Canada”.   Send it via Facebook Messenger, or by email to: AsISeeIt@whorpole.ca AND, you can also contribute, buy Buying Me A Coffee. Please go to my website – https://whorpole.ca and click on the yellow “Buy Me A Coffee” icon. #90 - Today's Pseudo-Live Triple Threat
This week marks a milestone in the podcast...a couple actually! It is the 2nd anniversary of the show, and the 90th episode.   It was due to be live, but it is not. I will endeavour to get that live thing happening soon – but what you'll here today is an unedited “live-to-tape” show. I'm going to call it the “Pseudo-Live Triple-Threat”. I'll be looking at a few of the subjects from my Canada T-Shirt, and a couple of other things.   I'd like to know how you're listening to me. Are you using Podbean's app? #89 - Theatre as you hear it - #1 - The Monkey's Paw
Today – something new. Today – an experiment. Today – I am telling you a story.   I've been working on this for a while, and due to the electronic/computer issues I have been having lately, it is time. It expands a bit on what I did last with with The Halifax Explosion.   Canada, as I see it is still a thing. In fact, I will be back next week, with a new episode. This week, I present to you: Theatre, as you hear it. Radio drama, that let's YOU create the picture in your mind. There will be more episodes of this – when I can get them completed. I have a few in various levels of “completedness”. This episode fits in with the darker, and spookier season.Considering the time change in North America this week, we'll have a little bit more darkness, as the day moves on! Please enjoy today's submission for your approval.   The Monkey's Pawby W.W. #88 - The Halifax Explosion
It was a challenging week.I had a computer meltdown. Everything was safe, but the files looked like the proverbial frog-in-a-blender.   AND, this one was the one that had the most work to do on it!It's a little different than others...a bit more production, and more of a 'story' feel.   This week, I am talking about what was the largest man-made explosion before the atomic bombs were dropped in World War II. The Halifax Explosion. If you do have any questions, or is there something that you would like me to talk about?   I encourage you to contact me at AsISeeIt@whorpole.ca – and let me know - I'll mention you on the show (unless you don't want me to) – and you'll forever be able to say, “I got James to say my name, way back before he was a super celebrity!”   Check out these links mentioned in this show – and others, just because: The Halifax Explosionhttps://thecanadianencyclopedia.ca/en/article/halifax-explosion     Halifax Explosion National Historic Sitehttps://parks.canada.ca/culture/designation/evenement-event/halifax-explosion    Maps of the Devastationhttps://canadiangeographic.ca/articles/the-disaster-that-reshaped-a-city/   Vince Coleman - the man who saved hundredshttps://maritimemuseum.novascotia.ca/what-see-do/halifax-explosion/vincent-coleman-and-halifax-explosion    More photos from the disasterhttps://www.grownuptravels.com/searching-for-remnants-of-the-halifax-explosion/    The CNIBhttps://www.cnib.ca/en    Thanks go to TrenoX8, DavidDumaisAudio, and SoundReality from Pixabay for the music and sound effects I used this week.https://pixabay.com/        My Blog:https://whorpole.ca/blog/   If YOU want to be a part of MY podcast, send me a recording of you saying,“This podcast is produced by the Fireside Chat Club of Canada”.   Send it via Facebook Messenger, or by email to: AsISeeIt@whorpole.ca   AND, you can also contribute, buy Buying Me A Coffee. #86 - Corporate Sponsorship - Who did it first?
Last week, it was the first big trip. This week, another first.   Today, it seems as though every entertainment venue you look at, has a corporate name attached to it. I'm not arguing it – in today's financial climate, it's almost necessary to survive.   But when did this all start? Well, put it this way, it was so long ago, that it can retire this year.   Join me, as I look at the first venue to ever have a company name attached to it. If you do have any questions, or is there something that you would like me to talk about?   I encourage you to contact me at AsISeeIt@whorpole.ca – and let me know - I'll mention you on the show (unless you don't want me to) – and you'll forever be able to say, “I got James to say my name, way back before he was a super celebrity!”   Check out these links mentioned in this show – and others, just because: Meridian Hall https://tolive.com/Meridian-Hall    Carling O'Keefe https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carling_O%27Keefe   The Original O'Keefe Business Office https://www.eraarch.ca/projects/ryerson-continuing-education-building/   Rogers Centre https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rogers_Centre   Major League Baseball Stadium and Team Names https://www.mlb.com/team (if you run behind a VPN, turn it off to see this site – it doesn't like them!)     My Blog:https://whorpole.ca/blog/   If YOU want to be a part of MY podcast, send me a recording of you saying,“This podcast is produced by the Fireside Chat Club of Canada”.   Send it via Facebook Messenger, or by email to: AsISeeIt@whorpole.ca   AND, you can also contribute, buy Buying Me A Coffee. #84 - Canadian Beverages
The Earth is made up of mostly water. 70% in fact. So water, most of the time, is the drink that people will choose to quench their thirst, or cleanse their palate.   But, thanks to the curiosity of some, and the adventurousness of others – there are many different ways that water can be transformed into an abundance of beverages. And since this is a podcast about all things Canadian – I'm here to tell you about the beverages that are...all-Canadian.   Remember, you can check out links about anything I mention during the show – https://whorpole.ca   If you do have any questions, or is there something that you would like me to talk about?   I encourage you to contact me at AsISeeIt@whorpole.ca – and let me know - I'll mention you on the show (unless you don't want me to) – and you'll forever be able to say, “I got James to say my name, way back before he was a super celebrity!”   Check out these links mentioned in this show – and others, just because: Craft Brewers in Canadahttps://ccba-ambc.org/about/   Sour-Toe Cocktailhttps://www.cruisecritic.com/articles/tasting-the-sourtoe-cocktail-in-dawson-city-yukon   Kissing The Codhttps://www.amatravel.ca/articles/getting-screechd-in-a-history-of-kissing-cod-in-newfoundland VQA Wineshttps://www.winegrowerscanada.ca/vqa-wines/Andy Dundas' ALS Challengehttps://myalschallenge.com/    My Blog:https://whorpole.ca/blog/   If YOU want to be a part of MY podcast, send me a recording of you saying,“This podcast is produced by the Fireside Chat Club of Canada”.   Send it via Facebook Messenger, or by email to: AsISeeIt@whorpole.ca   AND, you can also contribute, buy Buying Me A Coffee. #72 - Misinformation, Attacks and Re-birth
I'm tired.   There was a nano-second, when I considered whether or not I could/would keep doing this. I am forever encountering those who are looking for a short-cut, and I am seemingly always “on”. Yet they keep trying to ice-skate uphill.   Then a switch flipped. I know what I am doing.I know that I am patriotic. I know that I do enjoy doing this.   So, here's my rant.Like it or don't.I don't care. I will keep doing it, because it is the right thing. And I will prevail.   Tell your friends. Tell your enemies.Tell them about the “...funniest person there ever was...” --Horse & Hound Magazine   Check out these links mentioned in this show – and others, just because: I Am Canadian – The Original https://youtu.be/WMxGVfk09lU?si=FJlNr0xmVIaeN7s1   We Are Canadian – 2025 https://youtu.be/_OzbmriDgQc?si=NZd30QEzA6hzC79q Canadian Public Health Care https://www.canada.ca/en/health-canada/services/canada-health-care-system.html   Who is the Prime Minister https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prime_Minister_of_Canada   Canadian News https://www.canada.ca/en/news.html   Canada, as I see it – Canadian Elections https://www.podbean.com/ew/pb-9dmxi-17aa4cd   Canada, as I see it – Flag Day https://www.podbean.com/ew/pb-qnp2y-1803c57       I'd like to know how you're listening to me. Canada, As I See It
This is my view of Canada. Several years ago, I began writing essays based on the Canadian facts and people described on a t-shirt that I had! I’ve taken these essays, added some historical facts and new discoveries and now present them as I am known to do by friends and family - as a tangent-laden, fireside chat story. Please enjoy!
