This is a special edition of Casting the Net, and it’s personal. I’m sitting down with my nephew, Joe King—the one who led me to Christ—and we’re having a candid conversation about addiction, recovery, and redemption.
Joe shares how his addiction began back in 1997, what it cost him—his marriage, family, jobs, and relationships—and what finally shifted when he hit rock bottom. He describes sitting in complete darkness with no lights, no answers, and only $3 to his name… and how that moment became the turning point where he stopped hiding and started reaching for real help.
We talk about the power of accountability, why “reservations” can keep you stuck, and why healing can’t happen in secret. Joe’s message is clear: if you want out, you can’t hide it—you’ve got to tell the truth, call somebody, and build a list of people who will help talk you off the ledge before you ever pick up again.
This episode is for anyone who’s struggling, anyone who loves someone who’s struggling, and anyone who needs a reminder that recovery is possible—and your story is not over.

When your marriage is in trouble, it rarely starts with one big blowup.
It starts with silence. Avoided conversations. Unspoken expectations.
“We never fight” becomes the red flag nobody wants to name.
This Monday at 8:00 AM CST on Casting the Net, I’m sitting down with my longtime friend and former classmate, Dr. Lucy Rickspoone, licensed clinical psychologist and licensed marriage and family therapist.
We talk about:
Why distance, not conflict, is often the real danger in relationships
How childhood emotional neglect shapes your attachment style
The cost of “fighting dirty” and using divorce as a weapon
Why premarital counseling is a crucial investment
How unmet childhood needs quietly drive reactions in marriage
If you’ve ever felt like you and your spouse are living parallel lives, this episode is for you.

What happens when a mother refuses to accept that life-changing therapy is out of reach for her child and decides to build a solution instead?
In this episode of Casting the Net, I sit down with La Toya Shante Scott, founder of JuSco’s Special Abilities Recreation Center, and BCBA Christabel Dinwiddie to talk about something deeply personal and urgently needed: closing the therapy access gap for neurodivergent families.
This episode is a love letter to caregivers who are tired, stretched thin, and still fighting for their child’s future. You are not alone.

In this powerful interview, I sit down with author and motivational speaker Carla "Renee" Jordan, a woman whose life story is as heartbreaking as it is inspiring. From losing her mother at the age of 8, navigating rejection, silence, and emotional abandonment, to learning how to smile through unimaginable pain Carla opens up with honesty, courage, and grace.
For years, she wore a smile that hid a broken heart. Her inner and outer self were strangers to each other. But through faith, resilience, and a determination passed down from the strong women who raised her, Carla found healing… and now she’s helping others do the same.
Carla’s book Behind My Smiles is not just a memoir — it’s ministry, healing, and a testimony of survival. If you’ve ever felt unseen, unheard, or forced to be strong before you were ready, this conversation will speak to your heart.
Grab her book — it will bless you.

In this episode of Casting the Net: Reeling in Holistic Health, I sit down with Coach Cynthia Turner, a certified life and health coach, domestic violence survivor, and cancer survivor whose story will build your hope.Cynthia opens up about losing her brother to a diabetic coma and her mother to a preventable heart attack, and how not being told the full truth about their health still fuels her passion today. She shares the painful reality of hearing “we’re calling the family” at the hospital, and the “I wish I had known” moments that pushed her to become an advocate for herself, her loved ones, and now for others.Together, we walk through 10 overlooked warning signs of diabetes, the hidden cost of convenience and processed foods, and how cultural eating habits can quietly pass disease from one generation to the next. Cynthia also talks about her nonprofit, Beyond Nawal Ministries, where she helps people in Alabama navigate diabetes, high blood pressure, re-entry after prison, and domestic violence, while coaching clients nationwide toward healthier lives. What I love most is how client-centered Cynthia is. She celebrates “small wins” like walking to the mailbox, teaches chair exercises for those with limited mobility, and helps each person connect their health goals to what matters most—grandkids, independence, and quality of life. This episode is a powerful reminder that change starts with mindset, honesty in our families, and daily choices that align with the future we say we want.If you find value in it, I would be grateful if you would share it with your network, this may be the nudge someone needs to get checked, make a change, or advocate for a loved one.Tune in Monday at 8:00 AM CST:YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/@Mondays_With_Coach_RiceApple Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/casting-the-net-reeling-in-holistic-health/id1792325414Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/5bFfQOTlCt6u9AfJ3jfDLo?si=9r7Lo1bwRB-XTWXB9sVahQ
This new episode of Casting the Net with Certified Nutrition Coach Sarah Williamson where we dig into the “inside-out” approach that powers energy, sleep, and digestion—and a simple reframe: Is this choice moving me toward my goals or setting me back? Sarah opens up about hitting a postpartum low as a mom of four and how tiny, doable steps in fitness and nutrition rebuilt her energy, sleep, and confidence—then became her calling to help others.
We talk about real-life signals your nutrition is off (afternoon crashes, poor sleep, bloat), why “treats” aren’t the enemy (but rewards shouldn’t always be food), and the mindset shift that changes everything: “Will this choice move me toward my goals or set me back?” Sarah shares her “inside-out” approach—fuel well, sleep deep, digest better—and practical ways to teach our kids that treats are special, not routine.

As a coach, I’ve seen how powerful the inner critic can be — that voice of doubt, fear, and guilt that tries to keep us stuck. In this episode of Casting the Net, I sit down with Anne Wooten, a Christian Life and Freedom Coach, to unpack how to silence that voice and replace it with truth.
Anne shares her turning point from performance-based living to deeper connection with God and how forgiveness opened the door to healing. We talk about her Inner Critic Reset, her 5F framework (a path from fear to freedom), and practical ways to release old labels and embrace who Jesus says we are—one surrendered day at a time.
We also touch on Anne’s blog “One Day at a Time” and her devotional The Red-Letter Code: A 31-Day Journey—Unlocking the Blueprint to Your Identity in Christ, both designed to help you break the shame cycle, prioritize God over people-pleasing, and reclaim your peace.
