Jewish Women Talk About Midlife
Managing a Difficult or Abusive Marriage: Steps Forward [with Dr. Shana Frydman]

In this episode, we delve into the critical topic of difficult marriages and domestic violence within the Jewish community. I once again had the opportunity to speak with Dr. Shana Frydman, the esteemed Executive Director of Shalom Task Force, who shares her extensive knowledge and experience in supporting individuals in challenging marriages, fostering healthy relationships, and providing guidance for those in abusive situations.

We explore the nuances of domestic violence, the importance of understanding the dynamics of power and control, and how these differ from a difficult marriage—and whether that distinction makes a difference.

Midlife often prompts reflection, especially as our children grow and life dynamics shift. It's during this time that many women assess the state of their marriage and consider their options if their relationships are difficult or abusive.

Dr. Frydman emphasizes the possibilities for moving forward, focusing on how to navigate these situations rather than only advocating for dissolving the marriage. She discusses the possibilities women can consider and how friends, family, and the community can offer support.

Join us for this vital conversation that aims to educate, empower, and promote safety and well-being within our communities. This is an important episode.

When Kids Grow Up: Parenting Adult Children [with Julie Devora Brown]

In this episode of JewishMidlife, I speak with Julie Devora Brown about the evolving role of parenting adult children.

As our children grow into adults and have lives and responsibilities of their own, our roles shift. We’re finished raising them, and now what is our role when they have their own priorities, choices, and mistakes. How do we handle situations where we think or know their choices will be harmful? And if they follow a path different from our Plan A for them? What if they don't call or visit as often as we wish? And then there’s the grandchildren.

We discuss all this and also about tuning into ourselves, and the life we get to live when our children are adults and out of the house. Join us for this insightful conversation that explores the complexities and rewards of parenting adult children.

In this episode, I speak with Michelle Freedman, an empowerment lab coach, about Loving Our Midlife. We dive into adding more purpose and fun to our midlife. We explore bucket lists, anti-bucket lists, dreams, and the excitement of new hobbies, adding new things into our lives, from small changes like trying new foods to larger endeavors like picking up new hobbies.

A key point we touch on is that our lives are only as expansive or interesting as our comfort zones. By intentionally stretching these boundaries, we can incorporate more joy and experiences into our lives.

We also discuss the value and importance of meeting new people regularly, as these interactions can open doors to fresh opportunities and perspectives.

Taking Care of our Pelvic Floor and Core [with Susan Winograd]

In this episode, we're diving into pelvic floor health during midlife with Susan Winograd from Pelvicore Rehab in Boca Raton, FL. Our pelvic floor is crucial, performing five key functions, so keeping it strong is essential. Did you know that breathing is key to keeping our pelvic floor and core strong? And that there are many other exercises besides Kegels for our pelvic floor? Susan talks about the five pillars of health for keeping our pelvic floor strong. And about tuning into our body's "check engine lights"—signals that something needs attention. We also discuss how aging doesn't mean we must accept our bodies slowing down. Organizing and Decluttering all that Stuff [with Rebekah Saltzman]

In this episode, I’m spoke with Rebekka Saltzman of BalaganBeGone about organizing and decluttering our stuff.

By the time we reach midlife, most of us have accumulated a lot of stuff. Even if it is organized, it's still a lot of stuff, and all that can clutter our homes and even our minds. We might have our stuff, our kids' stuff, and sometimes even stuff we inherited. In other words, lots of stuff. Some of it we need, but much of it is "just in case," or things we haven't gotten around to sifting through in years.

Rebekka shares some important practical tips and mindset shifts about holding on to or passing on our stuff. She guides us on what to keep, what to let go of, and how to store everything efficiently so we can find them quickly when we need them. We explored various scenarios like holding onto our kids' belongings, saving items for future grandchildren, and what makes sense to buy in bulk even when there are fewer people at home, and what doesn't.

Enjoy the episode!

Courageous New Beginnings in Midlife [with Jeanne Blasberg]

Midlife can be such an exciting time; especially if we try new things. Devora Krasnianski speak with Jeanne Blasberg. We dove deep into the idea that as we age, we often become braver and more in tune with who we truly are.   Her kids were grown and out of the house and she was ready for her next adventure. Her passion for making a real difference led her to make some pretty gutsy moves in her midlife. Like swapping Boston for a farm life in Wisconsin and writing not one, but three books! She's all about living life to the max - trying new things, meeting new people, and embracing every stumble along the way.

Listening to Jeanne talk about her journey from feeling discontent to bravely trying new things is super inspiring for anyone trying to figure out their next phase of life.
