In this episode I interview Anna Ciaunica who is a philosopher and cognitive scientist. Her work focuses on the relationship between self-consciousness, embodiment, and social interactions. In this episode she explains how we first develop our sense of self and what this tells us about the fundamentals of the sense of self. We talk about the research on depersonalization that Anna is working on and some of the findings so far, as well as the importance of sharing our experiences and connecting with others. Other topics we discuss: - How our sense of self might be affected by being quarantined - How depersonalization is an invisible disorder and how that can make it challenging to raise awareness - Differences observed between the mental processing of people with depersonalization and people without depersonalization - How overthinking and trauma are connected - How dreams could help us understand the mechanisms of depersonalization - How to recalibrate by offsetting overthinking with sensory experiences - Why it’s important to take baby steps without fixating on the feeling of depersonalization - How to connect with the world to connect with yourself
