Finding Truth and Clarity In The Age of Misinformation | Edika Amin

"It's the people first and how they use the tools because the tools are already out there. It's a social norms thing and this is what dictates people's behaviour online. Do the back work, if you read something that is a bit fishy there's no harm in checking if there are any legitimate news sources reporting on it. A multi-stakeholder approach would be the best way to be safe online and user empowerment should be how we approach things."

In the age of speed, we get our information almost instantly. Everything moves really fast. At times faster than we care to admit as well. Authenticity, safety, and privacy are all factors we need to consider for ourselves and our kids to be aware.

In this episode, Edika shares with us through his professional opinion the best way for us to equip ourselves against harmful or inauthentic content when receiving them online. Edika believes in user empowerment and having a multi-stakeholder approach where self-regulation of individuals, companies, nations and etc in combating fake news.

There may be a lot of disingenuous information out there but Edika believes that we still hold the power in shaping our society to be one where we would still able to tell apart truth vs what is false.

As long as we create a positive social norm around our community and society, many of the problems we have online would be curbed.
