Stephen Gordon is the Founding Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Genesis Bank. He has nearly 40 years of financial industry experience, including serving as Founding Chairman, Chief Executive Officer, and President of Opus Bank; Founding Chairman and CEO of Commercial Capital Bank and its holding company, Commercial Capital Bancorp, Inc; as well as Chairman and CEO of Fremont Investment and Loan and its holding company, Fremont General Corporation. He is well connected with national, regional and local funding sources including, but not limited to agency lenders (e.g. Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac), commercial banks, CMBS lenders, life insurance companies, private and public funds and bridge lenders. Michael has more than 22 years of commercial real estate finance experience and has closed more than $4 billion in transactions. He specializes in structuring multifamily, retail and industrial products as well as other special purpose properties. During his career with MMCC, he has been honored with the firm’s National Achievement Award every year since 2005. He was also featured in Southern California Real Estate Magazine’s "40 Under 40" in 2004 and 2010. Mr. Derk achieved the highest revenue of all MMCC loan originators in California in 2004 through 2006, 2008 and 2009. He is a graduate of St. Bonaventure University, where he earned a bachelor's degree in accounting and finance. He also earned a master’s degree in real estate from the University of California, Los Angeles and studied abroad at Oxford University in England. He holds a sales license from the California Department of Real Estate and is a member of the Mortgage Bankers Association (MBA).

In this interview Michael Derk, Executive Managing director at Marcus and Millichap Capital Corporation, sits down with Jerry Marcil. Jerry has over 40 years of experience in managing and operating a wide variety of properties. He started as a real estate broker specializing in the sale of condominiums, residential and commercial income properties. His career sales have topped $1 billion. In 1980 he founded Property Dynamics Inc., a property management firm specializing in management, maintenance, remodeling, development and syndication of residential and commercial buildings. He sold the company in 1989 and became President of Palos Verdes Investments, Inc., a development corporation specializing in development and management of residential property for sale and for investment. The total value of projects entitled and/or developed to date exceeds $ 1 Billion. PVDI has built or remodeled over 6,000 units in over 96 projects. He is involved in over a dozen organizations and is currently the Board Chairman at Torrance/South Bay YMCA, the USC Social Enterprise School and New Majority Los Angeles County.
